The college student who got hurt in sparring - he clearly needed to get checked out by a doctor right after complaining of one side of his body going numb. To think he went back the next day for more sparring just boggles the mind.
Dundee is wrong. Ali has Parkinsons Syndrome not Parkinsons disease same symptoms but Parkinsons disease is genetic while Parkinsons Syndrome is caused by trauma to the brain.
Jilov man he was a chronic behind the head puncher because he liked to step around as he punched and with a lead hook it’s got nowhere else to go but behind the head 🤦🏽♂️
Yes Muhammad, you do sound like u have brain damage.😢 This doc was among the thinga made me stop wanting to be a pro fighter and go to college way back in 08. Thank god.
The only one in Ali's inner circle who told the champ in '77 that his speech and ring reflexes were declining and he should retire immediately was Dr. Ferdie Pacheco. Ali by this point had a large payroll of sycophants encouraging him to keep going and he didn't want to step away from the limelight. Pacheco tried, and in '02 they saw one at an event where Ali leaned over and whispered in his ear "You were right".
The worst treated athletes in any sport. Even horses are treated better. Shady interests rip these poor guys off when they're coming and going. Sign them to a bad deal when they're young and desperate, then clean them out again at the end when their brains are scrambled. It's a shame, and the sport has fallen off in popularity because of the lack of regulation. What about the boxing commissions and the WBC,WBA,IBF and WBO? That's just foxes left in charge of the henhouse.
I’m a former US Army Explosives expert (combat MOS 12b). In Iraq I was charged with finding roadside bombs and getting rid of them, in Afghanistan I was part of a counterterrorism team tasked with gaining intel on people planting IEDs. At one point in time I was being subjected to close proximity blasts every week, multiple times a week. I have 2 Purple Hearts from surviving blasts that should have killed me. I’ve been diagnosed with Organic Brain Disease due to trauma (cte can only be diagnosed after death). My first symptoms were walking somewhere and forgetting where I was going. My speech was a mess, I’d stutter, put sentences together backwards, and sometimes I can not get the words in my head to come out my mouth. I’m watching documentaries now on cte wondering “will that happen to me?” I know that I’ll progress and I know nothing can be done to stop it. So, I just try and keep myself as healthy as possible, for now.
That woman is beautiful like a real traditional down-to-earth. True to her heart wife, a woman of God, who says you have lived in a cardboard box. As long as she has her husband the man she loves is beautiful. That's what most men aspire when they think of marrying. They're blessed equally ,
@49:30 That's so true. Genetics plays a big factor. They say Aaron Hernandez had that gene, which explains how at only age 26 he had stage 3 CTE. Which is very severe & shocking for someone so young.
Worst blow in the world is a looping hook behind the head... It's the only one that's ever taken me down or out. Boxing is a sport for life's most serious and dedicated warriors. Not worriers. Salute to everyone who's ever put on a pair of Mits.❤
Agreed. That Jilov being a lefty and he tended to step around slightly as he punched if his final punch in the sequence was a hook geez it has nowhere else to land but behind the head because of where he ended up as he stepped around and threw a punch combination
what a great documentary . I dont know if people watching this realize how great of a fighter Denny Moyer was. Moyer fought during the greatest era of. welterweights and middleweights in history and has wins over Emile Griffith , Benny the Kid Peret and has a win over the man considered to be the greatest boxer who ever lived and fought, Suger Ray Robinson who he split a pair of fights with. He was a great great fighter. He didnt have much power and most of his fights went the distance and Im sure that added to his brain damage.
Chuvalo has a battery of tests. They showed his brain looked like he never fought. Go figure. Chuvalo said it was because he had a thick neck and when he got hit he never got that snap. Archie Moore- no damage almost 200 fights.
I boxed for 15 years and I am still a fan of the sport but pro boxing is awful. Try to make some money and walk away when it’s time to walk away. And most importantly, no matter how hard you train, your head isn’t meant to be hit.
Before we as a society address this, as we should, we need to look at the much greater health risks people knowingly accept and address those first. Smoking and nicotine addiction kills 500,000 Americans a year. Obesity will shave decades off your life and is an epidemic in this country. Hard Drugs once illegal now virtually legalized wreak horrific damage on both the individual and society as a whole on a scale far greater than the damage caused by boxing. Not wishing to diminish this impactful video, only to put it in perspective
and at the end of the fighters career they are nearly if not broke and the promoters are rich Imagine if you got two loins in a cage and got them to fight how many people would protest against that. Anyone with a heart and who likes to call them self civilised ... and that unfortunately is where we are in today's society .
Gerald Mclellon is the worst case scenario for any boxer period. In the end all most boxers get is a pat on the ass and well wishes from a few fans as you battle dimentia at 45 years old. This is why UFC is safer to fight in overall. I have yet to see a MMA fighter with dimentia
Boxing will always be a huge part of me. I never went pro even though i really wanted to but it wasnt Gods plan, but i fought amateur and i was pretty damn good. Yes i do have some small issues like remembering directions when driving, forgetting stuff, things like that. But ive loved boxing from 9 years old till today at almost 44 years old and i always will. I knew when i stepped through those ropes that me or the other guy could die, all of us who have fought amateur or pro know that. But thats the risk, boxing is a sport and in my opinion its the most beautiful sport because its pure and simple, brutality and poetry in motion at the same time. But you dont "play" boxing like you play other sports. Ill always love it and ill always love the memories from my time in the ring, and ill always wonder how good of a pro i might have been. But only those of us who have laced em on and stepped through the ropes know where im coming from. Boxing lives in us long after we hang up the gloves.
Even if you train from day one, and the next 10 years your ok. It only takes one hit to make it happen.... i started when i was 5, around 16-17 one hit to the eye, blind. I still train but to go into a ring, cant do.
It's a very sad deal indeed. Think about this for a sec.... For every concerned fan, doctor, nurse, mom, or whoever. There's 5 kids that have growing up in the US in poverty that most of us will never know. You could tell that kids whole family what will happen in his future but with the chance to get his family out of generational poverty, he's stepping in that ring every time 100% of the time
I love boxing and fight sports in general, but its a thing that if you don't have to do it you can do anything else for a living you probably should. the price you can pay can be a shorter life or worse.
