Hey guys, I'm Amanda, a small animal veterinarian and recent graduate from the Ontario Veterinary College. This channel is all about my journey of becoming a vet! I'm currently sharing the ups and downs of new grad life - welcome to the family! 🩺
Kind of jealous of our uni. I don't think we get our hands on anything practical in the first year. It's just boring chemistry, bio, histology + embryology etc. I'm so behind on anatomy already I don't even want to continue lol
I would love some tips as a grade 11 student, what courses can I take, what are some tips, how and what can i start studying early? I live in Ontario and how can I get started on volunteering or internships oppurtuniteis?
As an RVT and the hell I went through with school, I can only imagine what you went through. Congrats on your major accomplishment!!! Just don't forget us nurses who try our best to help you out
Thanks for sharing such valuable information! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (air carpet target dish off jeans toilet sweet piano spoil fruit essay). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Amanda, I really, really want to be a vet, it's been my dream for as long as I can remember. what would you suggest as some good first steps towards fulfilling that dream at my age now, since I'm only twelve. I don't want to feel like I'm just sitting here, with a dream, but doing nothing to move closer towards accomplishing it. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I'm about to start my first year in Vet school. Composure 100%. I wanna ask a question, and I want you to tag it in your next video. Can I ask my question.
@@yourvetamanda My name's Awosedo Emmanuel, and I have passion for Veterinary medicine naturally, it's in me 😄. The main issue is, I'm African, and I live in Nigeria where people don't really value their pets as much as you guys do, as much as the whites. So this got me thinking. I just need some kinda motivation. Pls... You can do a video for it, if you don't mind. But I just need your response please. I love veterinary medicine 😭😔😔😔😔
I graduated from college with a degree in advertising photography. I have worked professionally for large retail brands like Nike, Ralph Lauren, gap, and Tory Burch as a photo retoucher but I am now considering going back to school to become a vet. I know I need to take a couple of courses just to qualify because my degree did not involve any science or math courses. But now I’m concerned that I won’t be able to get in because I have no relevant vet experience besides caring for my own cats and dogs. How do I convince a vet to allow me to shadow them and get relevant vet experience when I don’t have any training? Currently I have a cat with acromegaly and this experience of handling her care is why I’m considering a career change. She gets daily medications including insulin injections, liquid medications, and pills. We visit the vets every two weeks and work with a specialist via email every 1-2 weeks. We track her glucose daily and do urinary checks for ketones regularly. Does any of this count as experience hours?
If you can convey your interest to a vet it shouldn't matter if you have experience off the bat. You have to start somewhere. Just ask to shadow and then when they are more comfortable with you and you are more confident. Ask if you can get some hands on experience or if there are smaller things you can assist with. Work your way up. Maybe you'll get enough experience to apply for an assisting position or end up with a lot of observation hours. Either way.
I may have missed this in another video but I have a question. How did you study when you were still in vet school after getting a puppy? I will be thankful if you share some tips and tricks. I am in vet school too. Just finished my 3rd year out of a 5.5 year program. We (my husband and I, I am around 8-9 years older than my colleagues) got a puppy in April and studying was impossible with her. I had so little time for anything that I fall behind in all subjests and as a result I failed most of my final exams. This semester I will drop out as I won't be accepted back with this many failed exams. I will study and retake them, hopefully I will pass this time so I will be able to enroll again in 2025. But I really wonder how did you do it all with a pup? Obviously it is possible, you did amazing!
Hi everyone. I will go to a vet school this year and I'm not sure what to buy first A tablet or a laptop . As my budget is not enough for both of the devices right now 😢. Hope you give me your opinion. And thank you
Thank you very much for sharing your life as a new veterinarian in this video. It encourages me a lot. I am going to go to pre med track this September and I hope I become a good veterinarian after graduating from the uni. Thank you very much for your video. ;-D all divinities bless you lovely lady!
Have you found any regret/burnout/compassion fatigue? I'm working as a tech assistant rn at a vet ER while working on finishing my undergrad, and i feel quite fearful I guess? Some of the doctor and techs I work with seem to be so unhappy, and I constantly see posts on reddit and social media about burnout, the pay, and people leavivng the field, and it makes it hard to want to even work as an assistant at times. After getting a bad cat bite this weekend and seeing how differently a human ER works in comparison, I wonder if the risk is worth it and if I am going in the right direction...
@@yourvetamanda good stuff! Be careful. Fish keeping is an addictive hobby. Google MTS. Before you know it you’ll have a fish room with 10 aquariums, even when you swore you’d only have 1
4th year vet student here! I would love to get your opinion on mentorship! I would also be interested in reading your templates so that I can start making my own!
My situation was a little different where the initial plan was I was going to have another vet with me until I felt comfortable. We ended up being short staffed so I kinda got thrown into Saturdays on my own after 2ish months but it ended up working out fine! I probably would have kept a vet with me for a lot longer, more so as a lack of confidence thing, but have to just bite the bullet and get through a shift on my own made me realize that I was actually more comfortable than I realized. I always had (and still do to this day) have my mentor on speed dial that I can call if I ever get stuck when I'm by myself which made the whole thing more comfortable as well!
@@yourvetamanda Tomorrow is literally day 4 of being a vet for me lol. But they mentioned starting solo Saturdays in September with one hour appts and my mentor on speed dial. It sounds so scary 🥹 but at the same time it might help if they push me to fly a little 😁.
Going into my first year at OVC this fall and I can't tell you how much your videos have helped me and made me excited about this journey! Congratulations on this milestone!! :)
I love templates, they make clinical note taking so effortless and efficient ^_^ Would love if you could share yours... Proud of all veterinarians and vet staff <3
Recently changed country's and started in a new practice (I'm 2 years out of school now) and my mental health declined a lot... I've been struggling, and you're videos helped. Thank you for taking the time to make them! <3 (it's always good to know other people struggle with similar things as well)
I'VE BEEN A VET FOR A FULL YEAR 🫶 how crazy is that?!? Here are some of the most important things I learned in my first year out in practice! Feel free to ask any questions down below or if you have any video suggestions, let me know!
@@Soumajit_karmakar I think on average it's about the same or slightly higher given that student debt in the US is typically higher! But don't quote me on that!
Hi Amanda, excellent video. I am international vet graduate, preparing for NAVLE. I also watched your video on vetcetera. I have one question i.e is there percentile marking in Navle.Which Navle window most Canadian graduate write for Navle. Is it April or December Navle window?
