just re-watching your videos. June 2024 I just made an order of loads of wool from world of wool I got Perendale Batt 250 g and Shetland sliver 100 . with some colors 50g's love your vlogs Brillo xxxx🥰
This video was fascinating and you had such talented students! I am so glad everything worked so splendidly! You are so well organized and everything seemed to be really enjoyable!
I've just got my first fleece, but it obviously still has clumps of dirt, grass etc in it. I managed to get the majority out using your method, but there's still some in there. I've been advised to use dog brushes to comb it out. Did you experience this problem at all?
You can hand card it and most of it will come out but it will take a while, I use most fleeces by keeping the locks intact so just end up pulling the bits out by hand, it's always a lot of hard work washing and prepping your own fleece.
Thank you for this video. 6 years ago I used Jaycob found it hard to shape as I was a beginner all that time ago ! didn't like it . then found world of wool thought you xxxx I brought Norwegian liked fast to felt ...gave Cheviot far too springy (for me ) .Brought Corriedale worked lovely quick to felt .liked it. New order on July 3rd 2024 , Carded Perendale Batt 250g
Hey question, do you think that other things will work for the finger protection, because my mom brought me one of these since i really wanted to try it and it didn't have the finger protectors and i tried something else but the needle ended up poking through the thing.
Very thick gloves but then you can't feel the wool, I only used finger guards for the first day or two as you learn not to poke yourself too much after that x
I got a ready made moth repellant on amazon. It’s made with a mixture of essential oils which include cedar and lavender, but also has citronella. It smells lovely. You dilute a few drops in water in a spray bottle. I also created a colour palette. Small boxes in a larger box. Each box holds about 20g and I simply refill when I am out of that colour from the stock which is in zip lock bags and in daylight. Love your content please keep it up 😊
@@feltsbyphilippa I am 71 I see someone do it I am doing a penguin the base is black I made it flat lol so now I will wrap some more around it trying to make a egg shape and fat lol
Great video! Also an eye-opener. I should have thought of it myself, but I never did - of course there is a chance water will build in the see-through plastic bags I keep my wool in. (one per colour) I told my partner about the video this morning and he suggested adding rice to get rid of any moisture. Now I'll look for small, breathable bags to put the rice in. Only I'll need loads... I do have the cedar wood balls, a friend got me a diffuser and I have some lavender essential oil for it. I also have bags with actual lavender it. There is still the occasional moth in my room, so I keep all my wool closed. I have plastic containers for projects I'm working on. And the ones that don't fit in those I tie into plastic bags when i stop working.
Great advice on wool storage, moth prevention, etc. I store all my wools in clear plastic containers. Like you, I also use some over the door shoe storage. I found one with large sections; way more storage than the other style. I also use opaque stacking/locking plastic boxes designed for Christmas ornaments. These are especially handy if you’re taking projects to work on to another location. To keep my stash fresh I buy lavender soap, cut it into mini bars and distribute it among the wool. Since I felt onto vintage wool blankets I also distribute soap bars among them. Love your content!
Oh wow, what a great idea about the soap, I bet it smells amazing in the blankets and the Christmas ornaments box sounds perfect, thanks so much for the tips xx
The workshops look great - really well set up. Do you include the needles in the costing for them to keep? Assuming the mats and other tools are kept for future workshops .
Thanks so much, the needles and matts are theirs to take away plus any wool as we didn't quite finish the projects and then I kept the other tools as it would end up being quite expensive for me to replace them xx
I use the shoe storage for smaller amounts of wool, in their bags, two to each pocket. I also label the front of each pocket with the colors. My large lot of wool (my backup wool) I also keep in their bags, and they’re all put in a large plastic tote; I don’t have a lot of space to work with (I needle felt on my kitchen table😁), so this works well to store my wool!
Thank you Philippa for a very helpful video with useful ideas, my stash is rapidly growing 😳😂. We are often away for weeks at a time so this was very useful advice, thanks again xx🤗❤️💐
This was really helpful! Thank you. Most of my wool is in shoe cubbies like on your door or plastic bins. Love the idea of popping some lavender or cedar balls in the containers.
Thank you Phillippa for the latest video. They were very good tips that will help to keep wool in good condition. And what I like best is that the advice was for simple measures for storage and care of the wool. Brilliant!
Thanks Philippa - having started felting these past few days, I can already sense a few purchases going to happen lol (to add to my already extensive yarn collection) so v useful to hear how you go about this. I have always had little bags of lavender in each drawer of yarn, and I also use a lavender atomiser when I am in my room to "boost" the protection offered. D
Are wool felted items washable please? .. my first look at doing some, it's quite exciting .. I have always been a knitter/crocheter in my young days at school .. men and women (mostly men) coming back from the war needed warm clothing etc to help them recover .. my mum showed me how to knit socks when I was about 8 or 9 yrs old .. but I digress .. sorry .. arthritis has settled in my hands now but I still have to do something useful .. With my 7 grand kids (older now) and 12 great grand kids all knitted for .. I'm hoping this will be a craft easy on my hands .. I do like cross stitch as well which is ok to do, but I'm excited about trying this .. I study all your videos Phillipa .. I find them easy to understand .. I intend to show grandies how to do this as well .. I will get all the preparation things needed and give it a go... thank you so much ... 👏 cheers Janet
Hi Janet, How amazing that you can crochet and knit, I am just starting crochet and yes, it is hurting my elbow but I am still enjoying it. So you don't wash needle felted items, the wool have been prewashed already. Wet felting is another area that I don't do but that uses water and you could probably wash those items. Needle felting is a great craft and not too hard on the hands. Any items you make are fairly delicate so I only sell as adult ornaments as they are not safe for young children and pets but if the children are older and don't pull the creations apart then it's up to you as to what they could play with. Thanks for watching the channel xx
Thank you so much Phillippa ... I'm glad I mentioned the washing bit ... I'm so looking forward to starting my wool felt items ... thank you for your wonderful videos .. 🦘🇦🇺 in Oz, I could sneak into sheep farms and snip some wool off .. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
