Welcome to the highlight of the UK’s summer rowing calendar. 2nd July - 7th July 2024.
Let's hope they get a drone back this year. I know it was down to errant piloting in '22, but the live video coverage is appreciably better with it. They really don't need the behemoth they used before, the Mavic 3 Pro weighs less than 1kg and provides an excellent HD live video feed.
Deerfield looked amazing 4 a unexpiericed crew. Nice size young men in that boat. They hesitated at the end of their stroke which may be explained by a coaching decision for an inexperienced crew.
No comment about the size advantage that St. Edward,'s had. Although St. Edward's had steering issues they rowed well. St. Paul's is a powerhouse, so it was a great race.
Beautiful controlled rowing from the Dutch, really impressive on being a length down on Thames and then going straight past them to virtually a length up. Wow! They made it so easy.
Wow - just shows what good technique can achieve. The Newcastle lads looked strong enough - but they are clearly FAR less efficient. In the second 1000 Brookes looked like they were running a slow drill rather than competing at a major event...
Now, how does his garden look, considering last time we saw it, there was a bomb crater, excavator wreck, shed which caught fire, a broken fire hydrant of a “fountain”, a destroyed greenhouse, a crashed rugby goal, an trench, excavator marks, a shot up flowerbed, 20mm concrete patch and a jet engine.
Rowing should be in height divisions. Forget weight division, 6'61/2" is like a heavyweight wrestler taking on lighter divisions. Maybe in contact sport divisions are just for safety. So weight is critical, and lighter fighters can move up. How about over 6' class for men. Over 5'8" for women. The lightweight/heavyweight scullers, is not a good divisional way. Robby Manson(current champ) from NZ is relatively short but is still 6'2".
