Then we would tap it every few seconds (upside down) & make a big pile on a napkin. To be honest, you can buy small amounts of radioactive ore fragments. But am 241 is the most available and nasty enough to make the cloud chamber work. That said, I have heard of scientists in labs hiring interns to try and find radioactive nucleotides to bypass some of the licenses they would need or regulatory requirements for just small samples to do their experiments. No cleanup necessary, like itt never existed in the first place. And this is scary, but this is likely small amounts. They aren't throwing byproduct waste by the gallons into the river.
