I was 15 years old in 1976 and I watched Whistle Test when I could, but I don't remember seeing The Ozarks. I feel like I've missed out for the last 48 years.
BBC, yes, a broad interest broadcaster. I was 18 in 1970, and we used to Go to free BBC concerts. Excellent quality recordings. The Sunday, repeated on Wednesday show with Pete Drummond. Saw Caravan and Supertramp. Great music in London in the early 70's.
Rifle on Jackie, their signature. Foot stompin, and great vocals. Impressed in '74 brought my son to share with ns friend. Appreciate what they brought to the world
As close as we ever got to The Band again. What a super group of musicians. I grew up on "It'll shine..." and still listening. These guys are savagely underrated...
I bought their first album when it came out and was hooked shortly after. I wonder where these guys are at now and if they're still doing music or are alive. Their music was right for the times during the back to the land movement and communes
They played at my first concert, opening for Dan Fogelberg, Chicago and the Doobie Brothers in 1974, if my memory serves me right. We moved at one point because someone was smoking pot near us and we were afraid we might inhale it !!! Talk about naive !!😂
There is nothing else in my (fairly wide-ranging) music library that sounds like the Daredevils. Hard to catalogue or characterise it - stoned midwest Jesus freaks who make you smile and feel like you wanna dance a little? I loved it instantly and I still do.
Larry Lee's vocal on Jackie Blue is amazing. Many thought it was a female singer (with one reviewer accusing them of ripping off Fleetwood Mac) Jackie Blue peaked at #3 in the US on Billboard (did top the Record World and Cash Box charts), but a damn shame that it never charted in the UK.
I saw OMDD in Russellville, Arkansas, at Arkansas Tech with Steve Martin Opening with his Comedy Show, then he Jammed with them on Banjo and was very good!!
