We might not agree to certain views of his but we can never deny his historical reference and how ita narrated. Always does his job so neat and never fails to keep readers off the hook.
Bharat is like layered cake - the Dravidians, Aryans, Mughals, and British. This does not include the transient invaders like the Greeks, Mangols, Turks, Portuguese, Dutch, and the French. NAMO and the BJP need to take the whole cake, not selected layers.
Wonderful talk. Thank you Will. The point about different eras and periods of what has come to be called the Silk Road is very important. The map of Roman coin finds is very powerful. We know and are learning a lot about the Roman and Egyptian end of that trade but it would be wonderful to find Indian sources and more Indian perspectives on this trade. I don't mean later histories but contemporary works from the people and cultures involved in that trade.
Fascinating, there is a longer and more conclusive article on this upturned idea in the Guardian. I shall forward that to separately. It is as amazing. We are now at the top of the world once again.
@@_UNISTAR_ Varna and jati are both terms used to describe social divisions in India, but they have different origins, meanings, and applications: Varna This term refers to the original social division of the Vedic people into four groups: Brahmins (priests), Kshatriyas (nobles), Vaishyas (commoners or workers), and Shudras (servants). The word "varna" comes from the word "vri", which means "the choice to choose one's occupation". Jati This term refers to a caste group among Hindus, and is derived from the Sanskrit word "jāta" which means "born" or "brought into existence". Jatis are typically associated with an occupation, geography, or tribe. The official Hindu view considers jatis to be an aberration of varna.
@@_UNISTAR_ In the Hindu caste system, the Brahmin varna is a social class or caste that is considered to be the highest of the four varnas, or social classes: Brahmin The highest varna, Brahmins were traditionally priests, teachers, or Vedic scholars. They were expected to learn and educate the Vedas.
@@FunnyIntelliInnocentVilageKid U're just elaborating on what I said. What was the point of telling me stuff I already knew, lol? I did say they are different.
@@FunnyIntelliInnocentVilageKid In reply to ur 2nd comment, NO, Brahmin is NOT a caste. You're probably not Indian if u don't even understand these basics, bruh. U can't just say it was a class OR caste: It was ONLY a class, with many castes inside it that were predominantly Brahmin, generation after generation. But, BOTH are different. For ex: For a guy named "Raju Yadav" , Yadav would be his caste, and his profession would denote his Varna. These r BASICS, and u're tryna prove me wrong on them, lmao. Have some humility and trust that an Indian knows more about his culture than u.
He looks like RRR movie villain. This guy is no less than villain. I was this guy peddling the narative of muslim genocide in delhi riots in 2020 and all other leftist propaganda crap.
Thank god the antiquity of India or Bharat's spiritual, cultural, philosophical, scientific civilization predominantly Hindu civilization is now being recognized by many which is why up until the 10th century CE Bharat i.e., India was the single biggest contributor to world GDP way ahead of China who came in second all because India was a melting pot of cultures, religion, education, enterprise and above all an extremely tolerant and environmentally conscious society stretching from present day Afghanistan all the way to the tiny state of Kerala including probably present day Myanmar to the East. Will India do a Bharat again? If it does not get invaded or colonized one can bet India will be a Bharat again because the DNA remains the same.
Are you sure? I was having a heat debate with my wife yesterday regarding this topic. I am still in a belief that there was Bharat prior 1947. She was arguing vehemently saying post independence Bharat came. I would be happy to know more about this topic from you.
@@sumeshsivsankar548 The Vishnu Purana mentions: Uttaraṃ yat samudrasya himādreścaiva dakṣiṇam. varṣaṃ tad bhārataṃ nāma bhāratī yatra santatiḥ. Dear Mr.Darlymple I immensely enjoy your books, read nearly all of them, recently finished " White Mughals " and " The Anarchy".Your historical narratives are especially readable. Waiting for" The golden road" eagerly.
I am looking forward to the publication of your book! I’m 80 now, but ever since running across works of Yogananda, Vivekananda, Inayat Khan, Mahatma Gandhi and others as a young man, I have been a great admirer of India’s past. It breaks my heart to see how low India has sunk morally. It seems to me they have become a nation of telephone scammers. Never a day passes that I don’t get one or two calls from people with Indian accents and American names who claim to be “Medicare Advisers”. or “your local television service”, or “your utility company”. It took me a while to figure out what was going on, but I still don’t understand why the country has sunk so low that they are actually attacking our senior population and trying to scam usout of money. Does it have something to do with Modi’s modus operandi?
India was morally superior because there were some great thinkers, but now it is morally decayed because there are some really bad people. Do you see the flaw in this line of reasoning? Scammers don't just scam foreigners, they scam everyone, including people of their own country.
Just started the Rebel Sultans. Wow! Apart from the beautiful prose, this book unpacks and clarifies that whole murky era between the Delhi Sultanate and the rise of the Maratha polity. And Dalrymple of course is essential - the Last Mughal. Amazing stuff all around. From an American collector of Indian princely postal history, who has never been to India, thank you much for a revealing discussion.
Looking forward to reading it and learning along the way. May the book be a true inspiration and guidance to the people in legal field. Appreciations and congratulations to the authors 😀
