Thank you for this great video Thor. I will definitely read Atomic Habits. Like you, I am trying to curb my spending. I still like browsing too. I am in love with the Chloe marcie crossbody bag but I am not going to get it. I got my Burberry crossbody bag on sale and I am done. I have recently watched a couple of youtube videos that really made me rethink my spending overall and the way I view things in life. The Coach empire bag is so beautiful I agree. I would love to get that bag but I am not going to spend a few hundred for it. I have distanced myself from the lux world. I used to watch more videos but now I only follow the RU-vidrs that I share common ground with.

Hi Thor - I highly recommend the book by Josef Albers "Interaction of Color" - it is a tiny book about color. I was able to take a class at university with an artist who was a studet of Josef Albers and the class was simply doing the exercises in the book (using Color-Aid paper pack - 6" x 9" sheets 314 colors) and I actually saw more color. The little book is less than $10 (I use bookfinder to buy books) unfortunately the Color - Aid pack is (now - 45 years after I took the class) $200 US, but amazon has the 314 sheet set of 4.5" x 6" for $93 US and Blick has 3" x 4.5" set of 314 colors for $60 US. I recommend getting the 314 sheet set because what the book teaches is the relationships between varying shades of colors. Anyway, I hope you will consider checking out the book. Also, I notice that your paintings have a very flat and graphic aesthetic, and I wondered if that is intentional or if you would like a more sculptural effect. This can be done by using line/edge (finding the lines that emphasize the three dimentional shapes) and also by emphasizing the shadows (Chiaroscuro). Another useful exercize is to copy an old master drawing (Da Vinci is good) noting how each new line serves to define shape. PS your paintings remind me of Frieda Kahlo.

i don't buy anything i don't need most of the time , and every few months i clean and throw or give to charity some of the unused stuff , but i am very very possessive of my things , i live with my family and sometimes things get lost or broken , thats normal .. what isn't normal is that i will get EXTREMELY upset , angry , sad about it for the whole day and sometimes even more .. i just want to know if this like bad or has to do with mental health or what , cuz sometimes i wonder why don't i just accept that it's lost or stolen ? but even when am trying to be rational i cant stop being upset when this happen , i need help , i think? or at least to know what's the root of my possessiveness if someone like me or know anything, pls tell me 😢

Thank you for sharing! I think it’s normal when people invade your space which includes your things and lose them, break them or in general are careless with them to be upset! Our things are an extension of ourselves to some degree so when people, like your family, aren’t careful or considerate of your items it could feel like they’re not being considerate of you! I don’t want to put feeling upon you but I’ve felt like this before as well and this is what came up for me

In the designer watch community (I’m talking Patek Philippe level watches) it’s common for rich people to buy the genuine watch AND a 1:1. They’ll keep the genuine watch at home in a safe or locked display case, and wear the replica so the real deal doesn’t get damaged or stolen.

Yes, the price increase has priced me out certainly. I stopped buying Chanel 4 years ago. Sometimes I got tempted to buy Chanel again but I would know that the quality is so bad that i would just have a heartache later knowing how much i have paid for the time in exchange of such poor quality. This mindset has helped me to resist the urge to buy from Chanel. I still buy Louis Vuitton and Fendi from time to time but definitely more cautious. I bought a few Coach bags and RTW in the last two years and totally love them. I hope I will be able to completely move to designer brands and phase out luxury brands. I also want to try Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors. I really like some of their designs and the price is so good and not to say the quality seems much better than Chanel. 🤣
@anthorpology
@anthorpology 9 дней назад
Totally agree, I feel like at this point you're only paying for the name and the design. The quality is totally out of whack with what you get and contemporary brands such as Coach, Marc Jacobs, and even Michael Kors are really giving these luxury brands a run for their money!

Thank you for posting this video. I agree, Stuart revived Coach from the brink of fashion death and made them relevant again. I've been collecting Coach bags since 1987( my first purchase was a lightweight Swinger for $105) The quality is bar none. In this era of fast fashion crippled by inflation, many people are turning away from trendy and are now investing in quality, timeless items with a resell value( if so desire to sell).

I thought the bag was cute but it doesn’t feel luxury to me, so in my mind I wouldn’t be able to justify the price. Recently I’ve sold most of my LV, Chanel, Gucci, Celine etc… I have kept my Hermes and Loewe. I’ve been buying smaller brands, Indy brands and contemporary brands and this is the first time I feel like my collection is fantastic. I don’t miss anything I’ve sold. I feel like you could get something better for 1/4 the price.

Thank you for watching! Totally agree, it's not really a luxurious feeling anymore. @@anthorpology In about 1998 I was on a fashion chat room in NYTimes it was very informative because a wide variety of fashion insiders were there...and one said you should never pay more than about USD$500 for a bag. Adjusted for inflation and still I see Coach is reasonably priced and too many of the big name others are wildly and cynically riding a wave of consumer delusion, but the wave is crashing. Great commentary.

The scandal has demystified the luxury industry. People aren't falling for the allure anymore. They want practicality and great design and do NOT want to be advertising themselves as fashion VICTIMS to so overpay for the bags. Plus the scandal of exploitation, it makes you into a fashion victim twice! For being part of the exploitation. I've always been cynical and happy to see these developments sink into the mainstream.

I think Coach is taking over a bit, but I really don't like the large C on certain bags like the Tabby. The Empire is great. I love the dark burgundy look in either suede or thick durable / high gloss leather. Definitely I'm careful with my purchases but always have been. I tend to fix bags or do a colour change or something like that. Lately I've been buying belts and ended up with an Hermès mainly because I don't want a large logo and wanted something that would be classic and last. It's crazy money but I figure having saved so much on bags it's OK to get one or two Hermès belts. I will keep them for a lifetime because the Kelly is fully adjustable.

I watched a channel where a woman refurbished vintage sheepskin bags that were in good condition. She dampened a soft cloth with leather cleaner, then leather lotion, and blotted it dry. She applied lotion three times until the bag stopped absorbing it, then polished it off with a dry cloth. Any scratches are gone. She says you can use a high-quality black leather polish on the worn corners of a black bag. Alternatively, you can have your bag sent for a "spa" by a reputable restorer. It comes out like new. You can't do that with caviar. I mean, sure, but the scuffs and scratches won't go away. *condup*

I plan on getting a crossbody Burberry bag in the classic check print since I parted with my Valentino crossbody bag. After that, I am really just done. I don't have anything else on the wishlist and I have made the decision to distance myself from keeping up with what's new. I am going through a really rough time at work and there have been some personal issues that have come up as well.
