The production values on this album are amazing. This is a true example of the lost art of the concept album. For a country album, the subtle moody atmospherics, the ghostly background vocals and the twangy sitar sounds all seem out of place but work so well. I highly suggest listening to this with headphones on and a glass of whiskey.
I just discovered him and this album--I'm obsessed with it. I learned of him by watching Tim Hardin at Phil Och's memorial concert (also a great performance) and someone in the comments said that was Mickey Newbury playing guitar. Can anyone confirm that? He looks so different in that clip vs. the pictures I've seen of Newbury.
Met him in 1970. Ten of us sat in a living room listening to him and his guitar do the music of this album. I still get goosebumps when I hear this masterpiece. I now at age 70 find myself with a broken heart 💔 and I’ve been listening to the Mick constantly for weeks. He touches my soul ✨💫
My favourite rainy day music album, still have my vinyl copy of this album as part of a double album "Looks Like Rain - Live At Montezuma Hall". The production on the album is so crisp, clear and concise and the songs are brilliant. The lyrics hit home later after I appreciated the album when a relationship I had ended... Sadly Mickey passed away too soon....
