Can you adjust the detection circuit up? gc 1028 metal detector Some people have managed to modify it to add a circle. To raise detection in meters please share

I don't use car ignition coils anymore. Car ignition coil impedance is 6k - 12k Ohm. It means almost no Joules on output and tiny sparks. If a single green grass straw touch the fence, output voltage will drop to zero. You need transformer with low impedance 20 - 100 Ohm secondary coil. Only transformers like this can give you some Joules: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cUrO_PMv-SI.html MOT (Microwave Owen Transformer) is pretty low impedance and easy to get. But it is big and heavy and its insulation can't handle more than 5kV. Professional fence chargers are build with 16-30uF 400-600V capacitor discharged by thyristor to transformer primary. This is best way and very simple. The simplest circuit in my video is illegal - bad insulation properties and more issues - but it works: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rJdLtxqL2LM.html But there are law violations: Insulation between primary and secondary coil can't pass 25kV test and secondary coil output for grounding can't be grounded to N wire. Ground it separately and very well (deep) into ground somewhere outside. And there will be some AC pulse on secondary HV output, which is illegal too. Only DC pulse is allowed, you will need to add 1N5408 diode connected in parallel to primary coil for back EMF suppression. This circuit produces high current pulses in AC grid when Thyristor switches ON and it has no EMC filter on input. 2Hz pulses are illegal too. 1Hz is required. You will need 10M 2W resistor instead single 6M4 for slow pulses. Or 2pcs 6M4 1W connected in series (it will be 12.8M 2W total). Use 20uF/450VAC (630V) capacitor instead 2uF and you will get much more Joules. Thyristor TYN1225 is very good (sensitive Gate), so neon lifespan will be longer with 470 Ohm resistor instead 47 Ohm. This is the best final version: www.flickr.com/photos/124591966@N06/52211295519/in/album-72157701694106375/

You're no electrician, thats for sure. This will burn the coil.

I built one of these and the coil got too hot and leaked out the oil inside the coil. Any suggestions?

Well Joe, I never operated this demo construction for very long. Your unit obviously got overheated. Did you have it fused? I'm not sure if my ignition coil is oil filled. If your coil is still functioning, you could try wrapping some heat sinking fins around the case. I assume your coil was rated at the same voltage as the supply voltage. You could also reduce the current with a high wattage resistor in the primary, but that would also reduce the spark intensity. To use a six volt battery, use a six volt flasher and six volt coil. When that capacitor discharges, it pulses the primary winding, thus producing an output in the secondary. I hope this helps.

Use an automotive ballast resistor that matches the coil used.

@@ernestweaver6182 the run time is too long using a blinker relay, mine got boiling hot and puked out the oil in the first hour. trying a relay oscillator now to reduce the duty cycle.

@@jw5155 Yes, youtube "relay oscillator" and youll find vids on how it works. You jumper two pins and then use a capacitor across another two so that it charges up then latches, and then discharges and unlatches. The frequency is very high. I would start around 500uF. The voltage rating of the cap doesnt effect the frequency but it does alter the spark output. I was able to use a little chinese boost convertor to input higher voltage to the automotive coil but they heat soak and become unstable. What should have been 18-30vdc turned into 90vdc and an output of around 13k vdc on my fence charger from the coil secondary. The voltage spikes feeding back through the coil wires were so high i was getting shocked through the insulation. I sure wouldnt wanna get hit by the lighting bolts coming out of the plug wire. Might be lethal.

ru-vid.comwZRd1xorzyo?feature=share Forgot i had a vid. Thats around 90 vdc input from a marine 12vdc battery with a boost convertor. Probably hazardous to livestock. I have not succeeded with one long term yet. Its on the backburner. I did have a portable goat fence up for a day running the marine battery with this same setup less the boost convertor and the real voltage on the fence as far from the charger as possible was around 1200volts. Had an escape happy hog in it for a day and saw her get a few snout zaps but it didnt take her long to plow dirt onto the bottom wire and then push it up where the first zaps landed on her fat head and didnt bother her. Goats would just ground it with brush im sure. So i knew it needed more volts and the adjustable boost convertor worked but had thermal run away. I never did find a cheap, stable convertor to try.
