My favorite video type is miscellaneous figures! I really want to get into the Last Ronin, solely based on the figures. They look so damn cool that I just assume the comics have to be good. I LOVE that original sketch turtle figure. I may have to go grab one if I can find one for my miscellaneous shelf. I really like TMNT, and they were a huge part of my childhood, but there's just soooo many figures that I dont want to start picking some up, and it get out of control, haha. I sometimes go overboard with things. I'm not sure which is noisier, a cheap plastic cookie package at night when you're trying to sneak a snack without anyone in the house hearing you, or that darkseid figure, haha.
@@smacrecords lol. I give the edge to Darkseid over cookies. They’re both loud but only Darkseid possesses the Anti-Life Equation. I love the turtles too. Every time I think I have enough they find a new way to rope me in. Did you see Mutant Mayhem. I haven’t bought any of the figures yet but I’m seriously considering picking up the Megamutant. It’s just so damn weird that I love it. I’m fortunate in that my TMNT fandom doesn’t stretch too far beyond the core characters so I’m not compelled to buy everything.
@Hylandboy1 I haven't seen it yet, but I plan to! The mega mutant figure does look really cool and it's huge! Haha I'm very tempted to just get the 4 original looking turtles figures for my shelf. Same with Street Sharks and Biker Mice From Mars. If I just get the main good guys, then it's only 3 or 4 figures from each show. I feel like I can easily justify that to the wife and have the space for them all haha
@Hylandboy1 it looks really fun, I haven't come across a turtles movie I haven't enjoyed yet. I think they hold such a special place in my heart that they can't do anything wrong for me haha An EX wife, that's who ;) lol
Interesting video! I started collecting the Classified line from the beginning. And I've backed the first two Classified Haslab projects immediately. I'm undecided on Rattler! I want Wild Weasel for sure! I just recently stopped buying "everything released" for Classified. Going to start selling off figures that I have no nostalgia for. Sidenote: I hate the helmets that come with the various Joe team figures. (Steel Core troopers, Clutch, NF Shockwave) The helmets remind me to Ninja Turtles. Must be a shape of them.
@@KEEPINGitREAL213 thanks 🙂 I’m a completist as well but I am also beginning to question whether I need EVERYTHING. The second version of Sgt Slaughter just arrived for example and we was “deluxe” because he came with a bit of extra junk. I really could have done without him but I just mindlessly preordered. The Haslabs are pricing me out of being a completist as well. Even if I could afford them all I simply don’t have the space.
@@Hylandboy1Limited space is the reason why I haven't backed the Rattler yet. I just can't decide! As far as figures.... From here on out, I'm only going to buy characters from 82' to 87'.
@@KEEPINGitREAL213 I’ll continue to buy all the figures for a while, even goofy 90s ones if they go that route, but I may stop buying all the repaints.
You have been a toy collector for years, by now you must have a pretty good experience as to what constitutes a GOOD QUALITY TOY, Could you please explain about ‘Toy quality’ , the considerations for judging it along with some examples. I know this is a long question which might require an even longer answer but I believe it to be an important one and helpful to new collectors.
@@zubairsarwar815 that is a loaded question. The definition of quality is “the standard of something as measured against other things of a similar kind” so when I’m judging a figure I’m comparing it to other similar figures. It’s hard to compare a dollar store toy to an expensive high-end collectible. In this episode we said that Darkseid was a poor quality figure. That’s because we have lots of other McFarlane DC figures to compare it to. Generally, they’re solid figures that can fall off a shelf without breaking, the plastic is the right combination of hard and soft. They are usually very posable and the joints move easily with a consistent amount of friction. With Darkseid, he feels hollow and brittle. Like he could break like a vase if he fell on the floor. Some joints are too loose and some are too tight. The pieces fall apart with little force so it can’t really be “played with”. It looks great, but it’s not durable or fun. I hope that answers your question somewhat.
Do you all ever buy older figures I have a store room rented with all old marvel and dc figures, ninja turtles, transformers, and like video game characters. They just been sitting there and it be nice if it went to a collector
@@mcmogg_incmogg2080 I know Chad is not a fan of secondhand stuff. I occasionally buy old stuff from toy shows and such but not too often. Are you local in Halifax? There are regular toy shows nearby and a couple of comic shops that buy old collections.
That Ragman is cool. I had to cancel a bunch of pre-orders including that figure cause I need to scale back. I wonder how long McFarlane's contract with DC is for cause Jada Toys would do wonders with that license if they made DC figures in the Marvel Legends scale.
Cool list , everyone is bound to have a different top 10, but imo MOTUC FISTO has a place in some top 10 lists if not the best, why didn’t he make it to yours? Just asking.
@@zubairsarwar815 Classics Fisto was great. Unfortunately, he was one of a handful of figures I missed out on. I was only ever able to get the Filmation version (which was also good). Regardless, I’m more into the creature characters so Fisto probably wouldn’t have made my list even if I had him.
I never bought a motu origins figure. Until the cartoon skeletor and he-man which I think are two of the best work mattel has ever done with the characterizations. Can't believe Hordak is coming to the series. It only took Mattel 40+ years to accomplish this. Which is telling a lot. The origins line has been terrible overall all these years. Squat deformed, repugnant, stiff looking creepy crap. Finally someone there got the idea these were ' action figure dollies ' and began the laborious job of engineering. Even the plastic seems better on the cartoon series. 😂
@@rickytoddbotelho9555 hey Ricky. Glad you’re enjoying the Cartoon Collection but I prefer Origins myself. To each their own. I am looking forward to Hordak. Super7 did a nice one but the ankles were ridiculously loose so I need an upgrade.
@@Hylandboy1 ridiculously expensive too.. the only super 7 I went after on the super crapity website. Crashed. So I never got one for the asking $ and would never spend 89$ for it 😄👺
Hey guys, another great MOTU video. Happy to see Chad getting sucked in to the Cartoon Collection, I am still mainly about the regular Origins but am enjoying the Cartoon Collection as well as the Turtles of Grayskull. I am also quiet excited about the teased Thundercats of Grayskull (or whatever they call it) that we could see next year. There are a lot of 80s toy lines that could be brough into Origins😁I have similar feeling towards the Snake Lair but probably would have backed it anyway had it gone forward. Still, I will be happy if they come back in a few months with a more Grayskull sized Lair.
@@gavinelliotjones Hey Gavin. Thanks for the kind words. We seem to have similar collecting preferences. I’m happy that Vypor and Necroconda are coming to the regular Origins line but I hope they take a break from Snake Men after that. I’ll likely cherry pick the Thundercats figures as I’ve done with the Turtles line. I’m hoping for affordable Snake Man and Horde bases in the future. Toy companies need to recognize that most people don’t have room to display multiple massive play sets. Cheers.
Haha, I love the opening B reel scene! The movie Little Monsters was one of my favourites as a kid. I just paused your episode to Google where I can watch it for free and downloaded the Plex app, so I can watch it tomorrow during work. Fred Savage, Ben Savage, you can't go wrong haha. I had the Two-Bad figure when I was a kid, and I thought it was the coolest bad guy figure I owned. The colours were great, the bear hug arms were awesome, it was different than my other normal action figures. I didn't know who Two-Bad was back then, but I learned who he was after watching your videos.
@@smacrecords glad you enjoyed the B reel. Lol I’m also glad to hear Chad has rekindled your love of Little Monsters. I haven’t seen it since I was a kid. Let me know if it’s worth revisiting. The one thing I really like about the new cartoon collection Two-Bad is that you can split him up into 2 separate characters for the first time.
I gotta say, it's about time someone stood up to the Sneeden family. It's been a long time coming that somebody call them out! This was a big haul for you guys. I'm guessing the limiting of purchases this year has gone out the window? Haha Road Pig looks awesome, although the name reminds me of my Ex girlfriend 😂 Gnawgahyde also looks great and it looks like they both come with a lot of accessories, which is awesome! Have you made a decision about the jet yet?
@@smacrecords hey, Scott. It has been a pretty serious haul the past few weeks. I had 5 new figures show up just today and I’m expecting 8 more tomorrow. All these preorders from months ago seem to be hitting at once. My credit card is on life support so I really must make some tough cuts and I think that includes passing on the Rattler which is painful. I need to see this ex girlfriend lol.
@Hylandboy1 hahaha Chad was telling me about all the packages showing up in such a short time frame. It must feel like Christmas! Haha, oh, I can imagine! These things are far from cheap, and they add up quickly! There's a couple of figures outside of my current collections I'd like to get, but I have an all or nothing mindset, so I'm not sure I want to open another can of worms haha. Hahaha, imagine if Miss Piggy dressed up for a country music festival and then ate all the other Muppets 🤣
@@smacrecords oh geez. I’m imagining a real nightmare. It’s a good thing you got out of that. Lol. I understand the all or nothing mentality. That more applies to my comic collecting though. If I miss a single issue I’d rather just quit collecting the series than have a gap in the numbers.
@Hylandboy1 haha I'm glad I got out of there, too! I completely understand. That gap would just be staring at you in the face every time you looked at the collection!
I missed out on the first two Haslabs and am currently all in on Classified so I begrudgingly backed The Rattler even though I don't really need a large plane but want the figures. I didn't jump on Classified early on so have been playing catch up and yeah... I'm worried every year is gonna be larger and larger vehicles and I'm running out of room...
@@Z-ManAtTheParty I’m really thinking of skipping the Rattler. I loved playing with it as a kid but it’s not something I need as a display piece. Spending $500+ on a toy used to seem like an extreme circumstance but now the companies expect us to shell that out every quarter. I can’t keep up.
@@Hylandboy1 It's definitely getting a little out of control. I didn't have the Rattler as a kid so I don't have that nostalgia pull8ng me in. If I had the option to just get the figures I would do that.
@@user-jn8qo3ei5k nope. Not for a few years now. Though they were producing a less articulated 3 3/4” line for a while afterwards but even that line has since been cancelled.
Thank you, chums! It feels like the guys from DFA are at the peak of their form. It's a pity that I don't have the opportunity to support the musicians at their performance. It's my dream to go to their concert.
@@mellome83 one of his arms did pop out of the socket quite easily while I was posing him afterwards. I wouldn’t say it’s loose but it’s far from tight. His overall posability is quite limited.
I feel like I say this once a month, but it deserves repeating: the editing you do with these videos is unreal. The way you time the cut-in scenes with your prior dialogue and the amount of reference photos you use for pop-ups is very impressive and don’t go unnoticed. The care in things like this definitely makes your channel stand out above so many others. Another great video, Mike.
@@LukeJH11 hey, Luke. You have said that before but I appreciate it every time. I do put a lot of time into these videos so knowing that someone recognizes that makes it all worth while. Thanks again, my friend.
Nice video , thank you for making it. One little bit here , your opening before you show anything was Far too long , brought the video Down to a 8 out of 10 for me , but , Please , NEVER Stop Trying.
I love the miscellaneous episodes, I love a good variety! Kacey needs a voice, you'll have to dub over her video parts with some sarcastic co-host commentary 😂 I'm contemplating pulling the trigger on the Street Sharks and Biker Mice from Mars figures in BBTS right now. First, I need to finish getting the shelves for the toys I already have to get them organized and properly displayed in my new office. That will be my goal for this week and then I can start adding more again once I see how much space I have to play with.
@@smacrecords thanks, dude. I think I’ll leave the voiceover to the professionals (if you want to hear some of my shoddy voice work from many moons ago look up “Costello Island” on RU-vid. ) Although I actually considered a puppet as a sidekick, or myself on split screen before I roped Chad into things. I never got into Biker Mice or Street Sharks but I can totally relate to wanting to collect multiple lines.

@@smacrecords well, her slut sense was picking up on Eddie’s new “asset”. I wish I could tell you where the story was going after that but I tended to write them a panel at a time.
These repaints alongside the high prices is what’s killing Super7 GiJoe lines…I was going all in with reaction figures but I felt they won’t be doing it now that they are concentrating on O-rings , I have read that they won’t be making any more GiJoe Ultimate’s…. Glad I got out early.
@@zubairsarwar815 I’m with you. Sad to see the ReActions fizzle out and glad I never started on the Ultimates. Their Transformers lines seem to have suffered the same fate.
@@Hylandboy1 I think O-rings might go the same way… there will be an initial hype about them which will soon fizzle out .I had some Joes in my childhood but who is going to get them now when you are getting Classified for just a little more. Also the Duke in the Ultimates was good but he seemed too slim as compared to the cartoon version.
@@zubairsarwar815 I think the o-rings might do alright. I’m in a few Joe groups on Facebook and there’s still a lot of loyal 3 3/4” fans out there who seem to have no interest in changing scales or styles.
It's kinda nuts that Super7 sells ReAction figure stands and then sells a variant of a figure that doesn't have peg holes. It defies logic. It's bad enough that for the price we pay that they don't include one with every figure. No bueno.😖
@@Z-ManAtTheParty it’s very frustrating. After I shot this I realized the stands don’t fit with Glenda/ Scarlett either and she’s one of the figures that really need one.
Not going to be a fan of new crow . Looking like it straying away from the source material that it makes me want a Ed furlong modern adaptation 🐦⬛😂 seriously wish mcfartlane would have done darkseid a tad bit smaller. And based it on the new gods version you've got. That ' Gorgo' is gorgeous.😮
@@rickytoddbotelho9555 hey Ricky. I prefer Darkseid to be smaller as well but at least this one isn’t gigantic compared to standard figures. I didn’t care for his super sized New 52 stature. I thought Furlong was an okay Crow. It’s everything happening around him that was terrible.
@@Hylandboy1 the darkseid is beautiful but I expected more. The hollow torso isn't much. Could have been ball joints with a soft overlay like John Stewart green lantern. And a bit smaller. I like it, but I like the new gods version best 😉
IMO the Filmation line was a big mistake. I love that cartton but i wanted to see its characters Classicized... like all the cartoon characters before them (Catra, Marlena, Icer, etc.) instead of the Toon Town look.
@@Bat-Twenty-Two I’m with you. I preferred the Classics aesthetic and would have preferred to see the line continue in the same vein. We’re experiencing the exact same shift with the Origins line now.
@Hylandboy1 I saw the Origins Cartoon Colletion and it was like an old wound acting up. It's sad because Classics was unifying cartoons like Filmation's He-Man and She-Ra, New Adventures, and 200X. But the Toon Town look then and now creates a separation some like me don't want in their collection. I was really hoping for a Classics Filmation Mer-Man, Sibyline, Dragoon, and Colossor.
@@Bat-Twenty-Two well you never know what could happen in the future. When these 80s brands were revived in the early 2000s I assumed it would be short lived, but it hasn’t ended and they just keep reinventing the lines. Your hopes may one day be fulfilled.

@@JB-zo7ln Thank you. Heap technically predates Clayface but I think his look in Spawn is definitely inspired by the Batman animated series look of Clayface.
Chad- some great pickups. The Jada SF may be the best bang for your buck figures currently at retail. Mike- as much as I'm all for your attempt to limit your purchases, some of those Red Shadow figures DO feel like a pretty cool extension of your Joe collection. I think it makes sense to pick up any of them that relate back to an actual Action Force figure from the past.
I'm so happy Chad finally has some new toys to show off! To confirm, I did buy the San Diego Comic Con exclusive ALF. That's two NECA ALF figures I have on pre-order right now. I understand buying batman over and over again. It's hard to make a bad batman figure. Aside from being so iconic, he has to be one of the coolest looking characters out there. @@smacrecords poker went alright. We had 7 players which is a solid game. Neither Chad or I won though ☹️ No judgement on Alf. I definitely have in the realm of 100 Spider-Men. I hope I’m able to nab all the SDCC stuff I want.
Do you ever get a toy late, so it doesn't qualify for your date range, and you wish you could include it because it would have made it through to your toy of the year finalists? My personal top 10 favorites from your quarter two would be, in no particular order: Shimo Funko Pop The Goon Dhalsim The Prowler Frostbite Batman Carnage Kang Kodos Anubus Purple Techno Viper My decisions are based on two things: 1. How I think they would stand out in my own toy room. Size and colour play a big part. 2. If it strikes a nostalgia cord with me, or if the toy instantly makes me picture myself as a kid playing with it.
@@smacrecords hey Scott. I can’t think of an example off the top of my head. But this year both Ripper and Crystar are great figures but I feel weird giving them the nod because they made a few people’s lists last year (arrived to some people in late December) and I don’t want my 2024 list to feel dated. I already eliminated Ripper for that reason and Crystar may succumb to that reasoning as well. We basically apply the same criteria. The actual figure (articulation, colour, accuracy) is obviously considered but nostalgia can win out over all of that. Thanks for providing your list. I appreciate the thought put into it.
