Nice ride while it lasted, but you had to have been pulling 80amp per mile to reach 9 miles. One would say simply add more amps to the 15 that are in this model, but the scooter is already cumbersome to carry down let alone up stairs. The problem is even someone 50lbs lighter will at best get like 14 miles while someone heavier will have to make it a round trip of what 4 miles lol that’s comical. 😳😁
Gotrax chargers are s**t, heck all escooter chargers with red/green lights suck. The only good chargers are the Segway/Ninebot and thats because they are integrated in the scooter.
Don't have experience with those but that sounds nice. I've found leaving it unplugged until I'm charging the scooter has fixed things, but it's weird I can't just leave it plugged.
GOTRAX GX1 / GX2 / GX3 Dual Motor Electric Scooters (or essentially all GOTRAX scooters) are primarily designed for kids, beginners, or individuals who are just starting to explore scooter riding and don't mind a basic scooter. If you're seeking scooters with more advanced features, aesthetics, high-quality materials, and superior handling, it's advisable to explore other options. There is an abundance of other scooters on the market, offering more features at lower prices, such as the Apollo Phantom, Roadrunner, Inmotion, Kaabo, Inokim, Circooter, among others. Conduct thorough research before making a purchase, as GOTRAX should be considered as a last resort. I have had a negative experience with GOTRAX and would not consider purchasing from them again due to their poor quality and inadequate after-sales support. The GX3 scooter I received failed to power on from the moment it arrived. Despite attempting to charge it for several hours, there was no response whatsoever. Communicating with GOTRAX proved to be extremely difficult, with days passing before receiving any response. Ultimately, they I ended up requesting to return the scooter at my own expense, I offered to drop it off at the return location, which is only 9 miles away from me. However, GOTRAX declined and insisted on shipping it back (basically to make you keep it). This resulted in high shipping costs from UPS due to the scooter's weight and size. To any potential buyers considering purchasing a GOTRAX GX1 / GX2 / GX3, be cautious - proceed at your own risk. It's worth noting that the warehouse near my location receives a significant number of returned scooters, which are subsequently sold starting at $100 due to their poor quality.

handling is good, I have not felt like it's going to buckle or destabilize on me. turns are fine, but depends on how you take them, there is a bit of a skater technique where leaning in with your feet can let you take corners faster and tighter, but that's on all scooters.
This is my first scooter and honestly i'm really disappointed. The speed is fine and the quality is good, but the battery life is terrible; honestly i'd say it's false advertisement on their part. I have a 25km commute(combined) and it suppose to go like 50km but i ran out of the battery way before i got home and had to push it home for a while. They throw all these crazy specs at your face and how fun it is and then i have to stay far away from advertised speed on this thing if i want to get back home so what's the point anyway? it takes 5 hours to charge so i can ride it for like 45 minutes it's ridiculous! Are people who ride scooters actually ok with this? I'm selling mine and getting a retro ebike; at least i can still pedal home when it dies....
Yea I agree that the specs being advertised for distance are presented in such a way that it looks like it can go that far at max speed, but it's actually under ideal circumstances on a flat ground on the lowest gear. I shot a video testing that very thing to see just how far the GX1 can go on max settings, and it got to around 9-10 miles, so roughly 16km. You could have looked at the GX2 or GX3 which have larger batteries, but are more expensive, or you can bring the charger and charge it while you work, assuming you have space to do that. I can totally understand returning it after that experience though. Hope the ebike fits your needs better!
Yeah, you need to check they methodology for arriving at the range. Typically it is for some who is 165lbs and you need to drive in Eco mode or slower. Whatever range a scooter says, cut it in half to determine range at max speed.
Glad to see you’re still enjoying the GX1. I feel obligated to say PLEASE BE CAREFUL 😂 I just got out the hospital after breaking my leg on the Solar EQ. Got cut off by a vehicle and took a nasty fall Tuesday. I’m retiring from riding….😅 Anyway great video and be safe!
Glad you're okay! And good advise. I've been cut off a few times but thankfully nothing that's caused me to fall. But I have had to just stop completely at times, or give a car a lot of space, kinda like that Subaru in this video.
Another awesome video!!! When you pull the break it only "pulls" from one side, the other side stays stationary and you can see it actually moving/bending the disc when you apply breaks. I noticed that on mine straight out of the box. That makes me think a hard break might have bent the disk creating that wobble. I too had my breaks lose stopping power after 150 miles of riding and I mostly adjusted them by undoing the hex that holds the cable, pulled the cable thru and tightened it down. That's a bummer about your kickstand! And charger! And stem lock! Dang.. Have you reached out to gotrax about that yet? My stem doesn't have that issue.
thank you! you might be right about the brake itself warping the disc, I'm going to check if a bike shop might be able to help me straighten it. I didn't reach out to GOTRAX about the stem or charger, but they've been good on the two replacement kickstands, just waiting on the next one to arrive.
@@lurkchannel hey, I have a solution for the brakes pulling on the disc and causing it to warp! I only found out because I was just riding in town when my back brake made a pop sound and I lost all my rear stopping power.. so, while the caliper is stationary, the inside break pad needs to be as close to the disc as possible because that's the one that doesn't move when you apply the breaks. Mine was pretty far off straight from the factory. Anyways, take the caliper off by undoing the two bolts that hold it on the frame. On the inner side of the caliper there's a hex bolt, tightening it will bring the inside break pad in more. I turned mine a 1/2 turn. Then reinstall the caliper and tighten it down so that inside pad is almost touching the disc. Then use the cable adjustment to get the outside pad where it needs to be. I don't know if drum breaks are any better but I've had enough of these GX1 breaks already lol. I'm at 200 miles on this scoot.. anyways, hope this helps!
@@kyleb4327 Solid explanation. I didn't want to have to take the entire caliper off but I see the hex you mentioned for moving that inner piece around. I seem to have it in a good place at the moment, but I'll try adjusting it like that next time.
@@lurkchannel hey, I also figured out a fix for the stem issue. Mine got lose and by over tightening it I briefly had the same issue. When you collapse the stem there's a hex bolt under there where the wires go thru the stem. Mine was lose so I tightened that hex. If it's too tight though it becomes hard to latch and unlatch when upright.
@@lurkchannel also, it has deleted every reply about the brakes.. look up TRP Spyre caliper's. They fit perfectly and they're awesome dual piston calipers that make this scoot feel premium all the way around.
I'm using a GoPro Hero10 attached to a generic head strap I got off amazon. I switch between the head strap and a clip that I can attach to the sternum-strap on my backpack.
An up to 25 miles range and it gets less than 10 miles if you push it at max speed, kind of of disappointing. I'm guessing that 25 miles rated range is probably with very ideal road conditions as well is weather conditions, rider weight and I wouldn't be surprised if it was done on the lowest gear.
I've done lots of tests on my gx1 and I can confirm the only way someone is getting within 5 miles of the max 25 mile range would be in the lowest (15 mph) mode without turbo turned on. But, I will say, if you only go riding 10 miles a day as a hobby, this thing is a beast. The breaks squeak non stop but besides that I'm pretty happy with mine as it was in the upper end of my budget.
Yep, almost all distance ratings are under ideal conditions on flat ground with a 165lb rider and in the lowest power setting. Some of the very high end scooters will give estimates based on power settings but it's very uncommon currently.
I still need to see just how far I can push the GX1 witht he right combination of settings. I did test it going as fast as it can go from full battery to quit in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EBieK4Shn_s.html
Sir ur top speed isn't supposed to be ur average speed lol ur gonna melt those controllers. My 30 mph scooter I am usually riding at 24 mph. If u wanna be cruising at 30 mph most of the time u need a scooter that can top out at 38-42 mph.
Lol fair! I think holding off on the power mode will help in that regard. I really like hitting 30 so I might be looking into another model at some point in the future. Preferably something lighter if possible.
@@lurkchannel lol just use your car and pace yourself at 30 mph for a while and you'll realize 30 mph is actually a rather dangerous speed when hopping in and out of traffic with cars. It's not slow like 20 mph where cars can maneuver around you, but just fast enough where cars begin to think you got speed and they hug your ass. If you wanna sit in traffic for longer than two stop lights at a time you need a 40 mph scooter. I was actually chatting with one of those guys who does those Gotrax commercials and he was showing me melted controllers from ppl who use their top speed as their average speed.
@@tayh3168what if you put this scooter in the medium (21mph) setting and run it at 21mph for most of the ride? Is that the same thing? Or do you mean the scooters overall top speed? I have a gx1 and I normally put it in the middle mode and ride at 21mph which is maxed out in that mode..
Well, I can confirm. They decided to glue shut the USB hub for charging your phone. Not a huge issue but just fyi for anyone ordering one now. I will say, this thing is sturdy, comfy, fast and sweet! I wear size 12 shoes and the deck is still comfy even though it's quite short, the width makes up for it. I can comfortably ride with my feet next to each other and still feel safe bc of the shocks and width of the deck. Breaks squeak only near full stop but I'm going to try adjusting them. The stem is solid. The modes are all awesome except selecting them is backwards and it's kind of annoying to be honest but like anything I'll get used to it. 26" wide handle bars feel like you're riding a mountain bike. It's 32° here so I won't comment on range, but if I can get 15 miles when it's above 60° I'll be happy.. thanks again for the ride videos and input!
No you can definitely go slower. There are three gears you can switch from, M D and S. I know S is sports mode as its what I usually use and goes the max speed. The others I believe limit to 15 and 20 mph? Then there is a power mode which you can activate on any gear for added traction.
Dang, you are a speed demon!! Glad you made it back safely! So, first off thanks for making these videos! You're the only one making them with real world rides. A few questions.. did you have this in sport mode with the blinking wheel boost turned on? 9 miles seems super low.... : / but on a good note, it seems really sturdy and easy to handle! Another question/request, could you do a max range on the medium (20mph) setting? It would be good to know if you can actually get 20 miles of rang at a lower speed setting.. and one other thing. I saw on another channel that you can get it out of park mode and back into your last speed setting by hitting the minus button. Thanks again for the awesome videos!
Thanks for the kind words! First, yes. This is with sports mode on and the double-blinking wheel power mode on. Second, I can look to do that. Their website claims a 25 mile range for the GX1, so it would be nice to see how true that is for my specific unit. And thanks for the tip, I usually try and keep it out of parking mode while waiting but that would make it easier lol
@@lurkchannel ok cool. Good to know! The other channel said it'll still get to 30mph in sport mode but the blinking wheel light just adds more acceleration power which probably eats the battery a lot more. You'd think that gotrax would put out an instructional video on their own going over all the features and benefits of their flagship scooters! It's very odd that they don't lol. But here you are, selling the gx lineup thru your RU-vid videos. You need an affiliate link! I'd try to get one thru Target because that's where I bought mine for a few reasons. One I was able to sign up for red circle and get a 10% off store wide coupon making the gx1 $899. And secondly, Target accepts online returns in store for 90 days after the purchase date! That's a pretty insurance plan in case the unit is defective imo. Anywho, very cool videos. And thanks for the response! Keep at it! I've watched this one twice already lol. It wasn't until the second time around I noticed your curb hop. That was pretty sweet, the scooter didn't rattle or anything.
@@blue408c6 ok Cool. So a lower level seems to give you more range. Good to know! That actually sounds like it's worth the extra $300.. question though, did you put the blinking wheel turbo mode on when you went 22 miles at 36mph, or just sport mode without turbo?
Thank you for filming these videos for us. I see you usually film in the morning. I wonder how the Gotrax GX1 performs in the evening. I get home late and am thinking about using this scooter for my daily commute. Do you have any tips for riding it at night?
I'm filming around 4pm here, so closer to evening than you might think! The GX1 has good lighting in my opinion; a strong headlight that is partially adjustable, illumination on the neck and the bottom sides of the board, and a brake light on the back. My only tip, or at least my experience has been, that I use the bell a lot more at night to help people notice me as I go to pass. I'll eventually get around to filming some night rides, it's just been really cold up until recently lol
@@lurkchannel Thank you for the tip. I might have to upgrade my bell if I use it as much as night. Most of my evening rides are from a train to my home about 3 miles away.
