i would just watch the origin first its the litteral start of UC and has sick animations a good story and most importantly sets you up to understand why char does what he does its the perfect start and lets not talk about the point that the origin explains slowly and steady why zeon does the things it does the perfect start into gundam xD

Wow, I’ve never watched the anime consistently. I’ve only read the manga and it’s so relevant that those worlds were banal on purpose and that dragonfly race arc is the last breath of fun before ***suffering***
I couldn't find the full series anywhere, so I just settled with the compilation movies, I thought they were pretty good, are they a decent enough substitute? Edit: I watched a different timeline video and started with F91 because it was pretty detatched, then I watched the compilations and will probably watch 08th MS after
Did you not start with the compilation movies of the original series? I started with the movies, and I got into Gundam just fine. Why do you think they don't represent Gundam well? It's the TV series but with most of the stupid and off-model parts cut out or fixed. And you called the ending rushed in the the TV series, and you're right, in the TV series it is not built up to enough. But in the third movie, it is built up to so well that I consider it one of the best endings in science fiction (not just SF anime). Also all of the flashbacks in later parts of the series reference the movies rather than the TV show (Sayla is always in the core booster when Lalah gets…um…you know). And I would NOT recommend F91 for a first outing. You called the characters likable, but I found them all really hard to like, and that affected my enjoyment of the film. The visuals are stunning, but the plot leaves a LOT to be desired and the characterization is probably the weakest in all of Universal Century Gundam. I sometimes rewatch the movie for the visuals, but never for the plot or characters. My suggestion would be to watch the compilation movies of the fist series (but not Zeta's compilations, just do the TV series of Zeta). It has a really rough start (which the TV series also shares), but even the first movie has emotional beats that hit hard like the section where Amuro meets up with his mom. The second movie is better than the first, and the third movie is just fantastic for a 1980 movie, series compilation or not. The problem, of course, is the extremely dated animation style which is also shared (even more so) by the TV series, the fact that the heroes are flawed and unlikable at first, and there are quite a few points where the plot drags. But everything comes together really well in the third movie. If you're too used to the TV series, you'll feel disappointed that some parts are cut out, but that won't affect first-time viewers. And the movies make you extremely invested in the characters by the end, something that F91 just does not do. Finally, I am not really sure there were bad ratings for the original TV series. Another RU-vidr dug up an interview with Tomino who said that the ratings weren't bad, so he was surprised by the too--quick cancellation. It was the toys that were not selling, not the show itself. Like Robotech in the US a few years later, the fans of the series were too old to want the toys, which is why the plastic model kits sold so much better for Gundam (Robotech didn't profit from the model sales.)
Im personally thrilled the japanese audience want satisfied with the end of tv. If it wasnt for their dramatic backlash there more than likely would have never been the 1997 movie. For me the End of Evangelion is the cown jewel of this artistic masterwork.
If you read all the clamp anime ( and no you shouldn't have to), there are a ton of callbacks. Like the "pokemon" are from Rayearth. Another Clamp anime. The vampire twins are from X1999.
Watching this video now makes me wonder where you're at by 2024? After so much got worse 2020 and now that we're finding out so much about the corruption, about the money and about devastatingly evil habits in governments and in Hollywood and how deep the corruption went from the military industrial complex to the medical and covid manipulations devastating inflation and infrastructure instability, rampant migrational influx. It would seem that life has taught us a great deal about how bad things can truly get and continue to even get worse.
I had a similar experience with this show. I was a freshman in high school and where I’m at my school bus ride was almost 2 hours long and I got on the bus at 4:00am. I was alone for the majority of the ride so I just watched a bunch of different anime on my phone. I saw this one and felt so disappointed by the end (I didn’t know what ovas where at the time cause I was fresh to anime having learned about it less than a year before that. I also felt that there was a better show in there and I’d love to see it remade someday
Good video but disagree with the conclusion. I hook people on Ysubasa via xxxHolic and Card Capture Sakura. I have been deep in the CLAMP fandom for over a decade. Yes the anime kinda sucks because you can't really write an epic high fantasy world traveling tragedy for children. I implore anyone who took interest to explore the manga alongside the xxxHolic manga the story is good and deserves justice better than the NHK anime could ever do it. The saving grace of the show is one of the best soundtracks made by Yuki Kajiura and this is saying a lot because she is already one of the best composers in my humble opinion.
As a writer and woman myself, I think that making Nora a symbol for Victor, rather than a fleshed out character was the better choice. Not just because of the limitations placed on the production team (time, money, etc) but because she (and by extension, Victor) become a mirror to the audience. In order to see ourselves in Victor, we must first see our loved ones in Nora. As shown in his second outing, Nora is able to bring out the best qualities in Victor. Who brings out the best in us? It could be our wives, our husbands, our children, our friends, our parents, etc. Someone who means more to us than life itself, essentially. It’s really hard to get that same effect in a 22 minute episode where the majority of the focus is on other characters. It would make Nora feel less like a real person and more like a shoehorn.
As a person bought the manga from 2007-2014, I only treated the Anime as supplementary fanservice and only watch the original story that isn't in the manga
The thing is that animation studios usualy change whole concepts of a great already manga or light novel masterpiece. the same thing happen with Ken Akamatsu's works, both Negima! Magister Negi Magi and UQ-Holder. Personaly, I have read the manga Tsubasa Chronicles and it's soo good. I have all the volumes.
My only critique is that if we, me and anyone reading this, both agree that if something is true it has to work in all circumstances. Then i would like to propose those who think murder is ok. I find it interesting that in every culture, society, people group, etc. that all of them believe at least that killing someone from their culture, society, people group, etc. is wrong. What do we do with that because we see that everyone has this weird built in force that when we actually start to think about them instead of us and how they have their own thoughts and reasons for doing things just like how we do, otherwise knows as sympathy, our brain makes us then empathize with others rather than us just thinking of people from this meta consciousness perspective as just being an idea of a person or a person we cannot humanize with.
Spoiler alert, after 4.0s release the univeres are all canon, equally, with kaworu being able to project is memories as the soul of adam. all eva universes can be sorted into universes with eva vs without eva and these can be arranged like madoka magica. but essentially every universe happened with them happening one after the other with kaworu and maybe rei being entities that experience this specific universe convergence where the same events are occuring a lot because the multiverse is centering around the pilots evas and angels. For example, shinji ikari raising project the manga is a post 4.0 because there are no evas and the angels are computer viruses, but raising rei anaymi project for the nintendo DS is a pre 4.0 universe because it has evas.

So when I started the UC timeline of Gundam last week I am currently watching in its chronological order starting with MSG: The Orign and following with the 0079 Movie Trilogy which in my opinion much better and stuck to the main plot. I just don't have to sit through monster/villains of the week fillers. When I get to Zeta then I will watch the series to its fullest because I heard the movies are not good and non-canon ending. Gundam ZZ to me is like the Spaceballs of the Gundam UC timeline with the slapstick comedy. I just might skip it and go straight Char's Counterattack movie afterwards. When it comes to my Gundam series especially the UC stories to be dark, gritty and a grounded military drama. I just have to go to Gundam Wiki to read the plot on ZZ..... Gundam F91 Movie continue the story in the manga or light novels. The oldest Gundam pilots protagonist in the Universal Century timeline is Shiro Amada(20) from The 08th MS Team and Stardust Memory Kou Uraki(19)....... This is what I am following! I love F91, it's really the only self-contained movie in the series except the compilation movies of 0083 and 08th MS Team. However, I think part of my enjoyment came from having watched all the previous entries in the series. F91 feels like the original series, Zeta, ZZ, and maybe Char's Counterattack mixed together, and watching those series first helps you "fill in the gaps" as it were, since F91 can be a bit confusing. In other words, watching those previous series will introduce you to tropes and ideas that F91 reuses and helps to understand the movie better. Heck, Seabook is like Amuro, Kamille, and Judeau rolled into one. It's a rewarding experience. Oh, F91 isn't a 13 episodes series squished into a 2 hour movie, it's a ~50 episode series squished into a 2 hour movie... Hathaway is cool, but I'm honestly more excited for what comes after with the UC next 100 project. I think After War Gundam X is also a good recommendation, at least for anyone that likes 90s adventure anime.
