Faulkner was actually pissed that due to social tradition, he was not able to invite Juano Hernandez (or the black family hosting him) to any of the film's celebratory events.
The stereotypes were purposefully put there by William Faulkner. He was not a desegregation / equal rights warrior, so to speak. He illustrated his views on racial equality through his narratives, and bravely so bc he was surrounded by racists in his own family and community. Each one does what they can to teach one...
Great respect to you for reviewing this Iconic classic. This gives me a lil hope for mankind that someone of a younger gen group could luv & appreciate it so much. This film should be revered every bit as much as To Kill A Mockingbird...if not more. ALL AMERICANS should see it

Great post, and yes, this is a very underrated movie that doesn’t nearly get enough credit and praise-and it truly deserves it!! I was lucky to stumble upon this movie on Turner Classic Movies one night. So happy to discover it. And regarding the wonderful baseball player, Roberto Clemente: he was also a man ahead of his time! Spiritual, strong, and kind man who died way too young. Thanks again for calling out this movie, and peace be with you. ☺️ ✌️
yup I watched the original and the movie and just all over RU-vid watching different productions my favorite so far was cast A and a high school one which name I forgot
Notice the good actions are accomplished by two young boys, one black, and an old woman. The establishment does nothing. Not even the decent lawyer makes much difference,
