It really depends on the size of the student. It should look like they're reaching out to get their hand to the first dot, and then equal to that on the stand up side as well. Let me know if that makes sense.
This is so great!! You guys need your OWN theme song! I loved this so much that I subscribed to Grammerly, harrr. Seriously, though---WOW--you guys are GREAT.
The problem with not counting them if their legs aren't straight is that some kids are just not strong enough to do a straight leg - leg lift, so it would be better to count them and praise the effort. If they are strong enough to do straight legs but isn't trying very hard, then let them seek the higher achievement later if they're able to. I usually praise those I see with straight legs, so they know that's the better way to do them.
Thank you for posting this and thank you to Tasha for sharing these painful experiences to advocate for change. Tasha going to bed crying out of hunger at the olympics always sticks out to me as especially heartbreaking. They were robbed of an experience they earned- staying in the olympic village, marching in the opening ceremonies, EATING like a normal athlete, enjoying the experience. I did not realize Bela tore Jamie's hamstring like that either. It is ridiculous what these ladies endured and I am sorry to all of them and the many whose names we don't know.
We realize the tap swing section is cringe-worthy to watch, but it's just to remind people how dangerous tap swings can be! So take precautions - matting, spotting and skill prep will avoid a broken arm or worse.
