good good, more practice will always do better, having that slack in the line is bad cause at times it will kick out and go flying into the tank or object behind, always keep the line tight as soon as it touches the ground without live hyd dogs out light band brake on back up to just about teater point dogs in brake off winch down and let it pull u into it while lightly feathering the brakes so you dont shock load the winch or bang into the truck, in a perfect situation works best, when you get in the mud , up hill, down hill, icy ground its a all new game, but this video is probably better then i did my first go at it
I don't think it is really about being impatient I think it is just because other class 5 drivers don't need to be that cautious when driving they can go much faster and break much safer and turn much quicker on hills and flats so because most drivers dont have to be going that slow for their vehicle they just want to get on with their day and their trip as long as they do it safely I never care about people wanting to pass because I do it to when the situation is reversed when i am on my motorbike or car i will pass safely as much as i can around commercial vehicles.
What about recreation on the road. I know that lots of people are going to answer this by saying "we are out there to make money." But you know what, I think I would like to have some sort of life like everybody else in the world, if I was stuck out at a truck stop for the 34 hour restart, I believe I would like the option to lock the truck up and head out into the city or whatever and enjoy myself, I don't believe I would want to be an unpaid security guard too.
ad from ait trucking school reads: "New Truck Drivers Can Earn Up To $37,000 In Their First Year. Get Pre-Hired Before You Begin Training And Be On The Road In As Little As 4 Weeks." do the math. 37,000/52weeks = $711 per week. 711/7days = $101 per day. 101/11hrs of driving = $9.24 per hour. sorry trucking, a warehouse job pays more per hour, plus you get to go home after work.
Why don't these driving schools teach the students to shift without the clutch? If you can master that then you can shift on any hill and be in control at all times. You use your left foot on the brake and your right foot on the gas and you can shift any time without the truck rolling away on you and you will never ever miss a gear. You can't. Much safer way to drive. Always in control.
This looks like a good profession for me! Shame I never took the time to get a G Licence. Goal 1 lol Thanks for the video! Thanks for summarizing the pre-trip :)
I'm looking at become a Professional OTR Truck driver. I know there's a difference between rear wheel drive and front wheel drive vehicles. Can you tell me what the differences when you're pulling away from an intersection or stopping at an intersection with the truck and trailer and just the truck alone in wintry conditions. With all that weight there has to be a difference with being so high/tall. Thanks for your response.
100% correct. I've been thinking about what I said and the only place I'm 'allowed' to have no safety vest is when I'm on our private land! There isn't a commercial customer who will allow me in the yard without gear and there is one company I deal with who will fine a driver's company 200$ for no steel toes/vest.
if you want brainless hiway pilots teach him how to pass the test. if you want to make a professional drivers you have to teach these kids about how to do the job i haul chemicals 90% of my customers would throw him off their private land for not having his safety gear on same goes for the oilfeild and logging these kids want a job after spending their money in these schools and nobody wants them because they dont know anything
Just curious, My brother and I own a 18 speed Western star, when I am downshifting down a little hill, its not a problem if I split the gear for a small shift to maintain speed while jaking right? Or when downshifting am I suppose to keep it in high range and just shift right down to 16th? Thanks.
i like to drive, and the hound dog likes to stick her head out the window and has a fit if i go anywhere without her, but, it sucks you can't just ride. seems like a lot of other stuff that goes along with it. be nice not to have to worry about where the hell your at and having to turn around and go back the other way we do enough of that in the car. be nice if it were more like driving a train.13 hours is a long time tho. like i said it would'nt be so bad if you could just go. seems stressful.
I like this video, because it shows, the driving aspects, especially downhill, which is my "fear", because of what other truckers told me, and what I read, abt brakes not working, with increased speed... something like that... Keep posting videos abt real life driving situation, its better than listening to too much babbling on other videos, I have researched... It gives us, newbies or thinking abt newbies, real life/driving situations.. I already have my ears full, thank u
