I know out of the endless issues in firmware and such it's minor but just a thought since Kenwood has issues with licensing the name of dos muting or doing it due to Motorola but I thought about it and they could name it SOS. Signaling operator squelch and mute the mdc1200. Just a thought of name they could use and shorten the mdc tone or lengthen it just past Motorola muting so Motorola couldn't cry. Then they (M) can go suck on their nookie.
When you went back after home mode press I noticed your splash screen when it re boots. Is this a firmware flash deal or can that be customized in the programming software, the upper left top and right and other 2 lines? I find that handy to tag and identify radios.
that is a bitmap that you can create. I do not have the dimensions handy, but you can go to startup, and single click on the blank space, hit F-1 and it will tell you the requirements for the .BMP file for mobiles and the portable.
Hi Larry, this was done before they release DMR for the NX-5000 series. I will have to do an updated video to show various newer functions.since version 2 release.
Why do you leave the "beep" on for the video? The beeps are freakin Annoying! It adds NOTHING to the video. If you cannot silence the beeps because the radio is made that way then please forgive my comment. But otherwise what is the benefit of the beeps?
Thanks for your quick reply Evans. If I understand you correctly, you are saying you cannot turn the beeps off when changing settings? Or are you saying that you want to hear the beeps to be sure the radio received your button presses?
Thanks again Evans for your reply. I have a thing about the beeps. I don't know why but I do. If the beeps help you then that is good. I mute the beeps on everything I have, just me. Thanks again. I can now see purchasing the radio if ever the price comes down. I love the idea of it having several modes to transmit on.
you will need to reprogram your radio with your new password. That is changed in the menu OPTION FEATURE 1. then look in the tool bar for Data Password. If you don't remember your password and you have it as READ/WRITE protected, you might have to send it to your nearest dealer and they will need to send it to DEPOT to be erased.
Thank you for the overview, I am considering ordering one of these but I am hoping to wait until they release the DMR protocol to it. I was told it would be later this year possibly. I had a question though my APX7000 is really loud and claimed at 1W speaker output, my works TK-3402U is claimed at 1W but it isn't as loud. How is the audio output on the NX-5000 series compared to the TK-3402?
what is your email? I'm on the fire department and we use p25. I'm on multiple departments so buying my own equipment is ideal. how can I program my own radio without having it done professionally? I saw that you can sell the license.

+Chuck McDowell Hi Chuck, As long as your in the states, You can get it from any dealer. I deal with HAM's on KPG-D1, but non-hams get narrow-band. I suggest you contact your local dealer first. If they don't know how to go about it, email me (not hard to find me) and I will provide you with the needed information to give to them.
I'm interested in the NX-5000 Kenwood line for use in monitoring railroad traffic as they transition to NXDN, but when you were programming that blank channel I only saw analog and P25 as the choices. Why wasn't NXDN an option? Is that a different model radio or different firmware perhaps? TNX.
where can I buy this radio? I need a good p25 capable radio as for when I get my paramedic certification I'm going to do private transfers for hospitals. and all the hospitals in my area use p25.
Wishing Kenwood would make a multi-band multi protocol radio that does FM, P25, NXDN and DMR on VHF, UHF 400-520, an 700/800 mhz. Wouldn't that be worth the investment.
7 years later but they have the VP8000 which does P25 1 and 2 and DMR so far in vhf, UHF and 7-800. NXDN may or may not be added, although I've seen some dealers say it will be added but idk
BNSF has come through with different lash ups.... most of the time, if going to Alabama Power, they pull the lead unit off and stick it on the rear and reverse move back to Nebraska or Colorado... Empties coming back NB, usually has a single DPU and running, but idel, as for air pressure...
I am going to have to redue this I guess... nothing big about it, other then the wind noise bugs me.... Check back tomorrow, hopefully I will have it fixed..
