The best thing Paradise Killer does is trick you into thinking you're a good person. It creates a real illusion of "paradise" where everyone is wonderful and divine. But they really aren't. There are murders, conspiracies and cold calculation. And you, as an investor, are part of it. You can't wash away this divinity, because you are part of a nasty process and the exploitation of people for dirty blood magic. But you never once ask the hard question of whether it's the right thing to do. It's not your job.

If they didn't like the game I really wonder what they thought of The Ancient Gods. I wanna bet that every "problem" they mentioned in this video was just amplified and it was an undeniable slog. I wanna believe they actually liked part 2 though. Oh also major props for not disabling comments. Even though there's a good amount of refuse in these comments, most of them facilitate further discussion, so good on you for not saying "fuck that" and turning them off.

They are both terrific games, I really like Eternal, but it more often than not gets too busy. Its like a 10 mile long roller-coaster and 9 miles out of it are going down a 90 degree angle. It needed to slow down some more. Because of its intense difficulty, it feels like this game is made for bragging rights. The two times I've finished it I found myself glad that it was over. Overwatch feels like its in slow motion compared to DOOMe. I have a hate/love relation with this game.

I am an "ancient" Doom fan, I played the first Doom back in 1993 when I was in middle school, now I am nearly 43 and still Doom is a staple of my free time. Obviously, being an adult, gaming is not a priority whenever I have an hour or two to spare, but I thoroughly enjoy when I find myself lobotomised in front of a laptop screen playing FPS games as much as I did when I was 13 (please note, I only play Doom and Wolfenstein titles, I am not into anything else...). Anyway, when Doom 2016 came out I did not have the right hardware to play it, so I had to wait years, until I had some extra cash to buy a proper gaming laptop. I finally got it, and yes, I was impressed, although some aspects did disappoint. But overall, I loved the dynamics, the environments and the graphics (did not like the monster design too much, a bit too far from the original Doom 1 and 2 monsters). While I was playing the 2016 game, Doom Eternal came out and it looked amazing. Since I was still fully engaged by Doom 2016 and a couple of Wolfenstein games I was playing at the time, I decided to wait until I was fully done with those games before getting into the new Doom. Meanwhile I was watching game footage on RU-vid, but not too much as I did not want to spoil my future experience with Eternal. However, there was something wrong with what I was seeing in the new Doom's footage. The game looked a bit too "over the top" and childish. It gave me the impression that it was made to impress children or young teenagers that are used to overly colourful and obnoxious games like Fortnite and the like. But I thought, maybe when I'll be playing the game myself I'll realise I am wrong. So, a few months ago there was a sale on Steam and I bought Eternal. I struggled to find time to install it, but finally a few days ago I had it up and running on my laptop. Well, after one hour of playing it was done with it. Extremely disappointed. The game is packed with things I hate that just ruin the experience for me. Despite trying hard, I am not immersed in the gameplay and I lose focus after about 30 min to the point I have to shut it down. One of the things that truly annoy me is the flashing neon lights. The game is literally flooded with bright glowing items: ammo and health points and lots of other items of any sort. Even the monsters are constantly flashing with neon lights. It was fine in Doom 2016, but in this new game I find it incredibly distracting and really tires my eyes. Those items make me lose concentration as I am constantly drawn towards something shiny or glowing that screams "I am important, get me!". Even the fact that you have to rush towards a glowing enemy to perform a glory kill makes you constantly anxious as the glow wears down quickly and from that depends your survival. I find this stressful, rather than gratifying. Another thing that disappointed me is the tone of this game, that gradually shifted from a fully space/hell theme to a mostly fantasy/hellish confusing mish mash. Most of the times you don't even understand what you are walking on or what kind of environment you are supposed to be in. Maps are very fragmented, full of moving platforms, pillars, floating shit. They all remind me that annoying map in Doom 2 named "the chasm" I always used to skip. Plus (and this is something that makes me furious) they included any sort of spatial obstacle to deal with, such as electric rays, rotating flames, laser beams, hanging chains. Seriously, there are parts of the game where the main challenge is to go from one spot to another, without monsters, and sometimes you have to do that WITH monsters bothering you at the same time. There have been moments in which I wanted to punch the screen hard because so many times I was falling in the same lava pit. This is not what Doom should be about. Sorry young players, call me "Boomer" or "Gen Something" or old fart, or whatever the hell you want, but you can't take a legendary title like Doom and turn it into this shit. Doom is simple: lonely space marine in demon infested space base that needs to withstand whatever they throw at him, and final levels in hell. This is what has always been and has always worked a treat. There are no ancient gods, magic knights and Dungeon and Dragons shit in the way. Just simple "find a gun, shoot and repeat". Not interested in watching a fancy videoclip with useless dialogue and useless characters Bethesda want you to become passionate about. Useless, unnecessary, forgettable crap.

One thing I really like about HL1 is that the game is constantly reminding you of the weapons at your disposal as you cycle through reloading everything. Sometimes when playing HL2, I'll forget about certain weapons because I can infinitely "q" between two of them.

The new Doom games are NOT Doom. As far as Eternal goes, here's why: 1.) The Story: Doom Slayer, Argent Energy, Hell Priests, Maykyrs, etc. HUH? What is this a Motley Crue concept game? A hair metal take on Hell? Doom Eternal has pages of lore. Doom's lore was "The military industrial complex opened a portal to Hell. You're a Marine and your job is to shut it down by any means necessary." That's it. Hell was supposed to be TERRIFYING, a place man was never supposed to see let alone experience. The protagonist? Just so happened to be the wrong guy at the right time. The whole point of Doom was "EVIL BAD. KILL EVIL." Works for me. I don't need Stephen King and Jack Black to write the back story. Tetris didn't have a story and it sold like candy. Games don't NEED some crazy narrative. 2.) The Gameplay: Half the game is Mario; a platformer. The other half is resource management, having you bounce around like a meth'd up sugar glider to stay alive. Doom had plenty of ammo and health. The harder levels and wads addressed this but the thing is you were always picking up stuff in the environment. I mean the chainsaw having fuel? It makes sense I guess but the chainsaw was supposed to be for fun, not some necessary tool. Doom Eternal was made for the meth'd out zoomer generation. Doom was more of a horror/shooter hybrid. It was methodical. Paced. Atmospheric AF. It wasn't a Vegas cassino. 3.) The Music: Ok, not bad at all. But zoomer kids act like the old Doom never happened. When I hear "When The DOOM MUSIC KICKS IN" I have to role my eyes. Listen to Sonic Clang's cover of E1M8 or E1M9. Classic. All in all it's a pinball/platformer game disguised as Doom. They could have called it anything but Doom, but I guess they needed something to sell it. Now with all this being said I AM curious to see Doom: The Dark Ages. They should just call it Dark Age or something like that. Either or it looks cool because it looks really removed from Doom. It reminds me a lot of Painkiller.

The Revenant in 2016 looks like a true horror.. The Revenant in Eternal is too cartoonish, just like everything else in Eternal. A mix of Doom 2016 and Doom 3 is best.

I have to say that I disagree with you on most of these "issues" I completely get it though: that's your opinion. But I don't have a problem with eternal. It's almost all over an amazing game. Big problems that I DO AGREE WITH: The limited ammo (we have like less than 40% the ammo that we had in 2016... in 2016 for instance, the max ammo for the shotgun was 60 shots) And: I don't like the marauder either. It's fun to fight him one on one, but throwing him in as a demon that you encounter along with a hundred other demons firing at you at once is just... not fun

I hated DOOM's rote game-design. Get locked into a room, kill everything, do some walking, repeat. Eternal is better. You have more interesting level-design, you're still locked into battle-arenas, but it doesn't feel artificial because there aren't doors that lock and the arenas are bigger -- you get more of a sense of freedom.

The modern style of 2016 was far better. Glory kills were cooler. Eternal plays like chess with too many rules (cant punch demons, all weapons have a utility, constant limiting designs like sludge) and the platforming was trash. However when it worked, it worked well. That wasnt often though. Story didnt even touch on how doomguy escaped wherever hayden sent him at the end of 2016, just boots up with him now in his own spaceship on earth, & ends in the most cocktease way possible so that you gotta buy like $60 of DLC to find out

I don't necessarily agree with all your points but I do overall agree that 2016 was better. One point that I'm glad you at least gave a mention to was the weird deification of the doom guy. I honestly think the doom guy is made less cool when I have everyone around me telling me how cool the doom guy is. Like before he was just some guy killing hoards of demons. Now is basically a god who's worshipped by all killing hoards of demons and to me that's just not as cool. 2016 did start that whole deification thing but at least in 2016 it was in the background mostly and you kinda had to go out of your way to read into that stuff. But in eternal it's very much front and center and I also think it takes away from what little character the doom guy actually has. I miss when he was just a guy who was angry about his rabbit getting killed. (Also I'm sorry that you have to put up with the cesspool that is the doom community. They can't handle alternative opinions very well)

Having played HL:A in the No VR mod because I was getting tired of playing this game in full VR but thinking the game would have worked perfectly fine as a standard KB/M game without the extra VR physics interaction tells me how little the VR part actually meant. This was simply a well designed game even when someone modded the VR part out but still made this section a great puzzle to get through. I loved Jeff and while I bet it was great in VR the game doesn't suffer by removing those features.

I really like this deep dive into ammo management. It was one of the defining features of Half Life, which came out in an era where magazines were often just ignored in game play. For example Doom's pistol could be fired continuously until all your ammo was depleted. An interesting thing that some people bring up is that HL: Alyx has a "one in the chamber" mechanic as a welcome debut in the franchise. I am someone who was a broke teenager when Half Life came out so I played through a day one demo dozens of times until I got the Platinum Pack for Christmas. The release version didn't have it, but these early demos actually HAD a "one in the chamber" mechanic that I lamented the removal of upon playing the full game. Noticing this change and the stark contrast with shooters before HL lead me to wonder when games would implement tracking the contents of each magazine. Something that Alyx does, albeit in a streamlined and simplified way. A feature I'd been waiting 20 years for finally come to fruition.

How skipping DOOM custscenes SHOULD work: - Doomguy menacingly listens to/waits at/looks at/hovers over whatever is talking or leads to the next area. - If the player presses any button, Doomguy bashes/smashes/crushes/punches/moves past/kicks/shoots/pushes aside whatever/whoever is talking and the cutscene ends or dialogue continues during gameplay. But that would be a bit too kino and soulful for Zoom: Eternal, which is obsessed with its really boring Marvelslop story.

I got eternal today, played the hell (höh, höh hell you get it?) out of 2016 the past year. While i disagree with the speed of gameplay. I am witb you on almost any other point, ammunition, chainsaw usage, etc. 2016 just feels more fine-tuned somehow, and the flow is better
