Hey yall, welcome to my channel I make History videos and other random things. I also have a gaming channel that I run with a friend of mine ru-vid.com/show-UCfGrO9MsXdDQQKCbSQGImvg so if you like what I do and wanna make my day! click that big red button, all you gotta do is click itt but, only if you want to.
The era with silly cheat codes just to mess around was the best. For me a game really has an experienced mind behind it if they add something like the monster truck in aoe3
A titular character is a character whose name occurs or is referred in the title, like Alice in Alice in Wonderland. Sorry, it just bothered me. Best wishes.
A perfect video to get invested in the touhou lore is "touhou cosmology" it explains a lot about the world of touhou and all the areas its EXTREMELY well made
@1:50 "In Touhou, there are two titular characters." **pinches bridge of nose** Suwako-sama, give me strength... A "titular character" and a "main character" is not the same thing. A "titular character" is a character that a movie, game or series/franchise is named after. For example: The Spider-Man franchise is named after its titular character... If Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame were the titular characters of Touhou, then they wouldn't be named Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame, their names would be "Touhou." Oh yeah, and if you've got a Nintendo Switch or Steam, I would recommend Koumajou Remilia, a.k.a. Touhouvania.
@@cirkitt No, it wouldn't have been. A deuteragonist is a secondary main character. Ergo, while Reimu is the protagonist of Touhou, Marisa is the deuteragonist; they are not both deuteragonists.
@@GrahamChapman If the character is the main driving force of the story, they are the protagonist "Main character" is just a term for any important characters (main characters vs. secondary characters) so a narrator, protagonist, and deuteragonist are all main characters. In a way, the distinction between the main character and the deuteragonist is somewhat arbitrary. It's really just a matter of who the story focuses on the most. If your story is told from the perspective of the deuteragonist, and they are the driving force of the story, then it's fair to say that they are the main character.Considering you can play as Either Reimu or Marisa in most games and it solely focuses on them in their respective instances they are the protagonist. If Reimu is the progtag and Marisa is the secondary protag how does it makes any sense that you can't refer to them with that word? Deu litterly means "2" the word was created to refer to someone sharing the spotlight.Using it to refer to Duel Protagonists isn't a crazy idea. Whille it isn't the adherent definitions using that word wouldn't have caused confusion.
@@cirkitt The "deu" in "deuteragonist" does not signify that there are "two" protagonists, it signifies that the deuteragonist character is "second" in importance within the narrative to the protagonist. Both Reimu and Marisa are main characters, but only Reimu is the protagonist and only Marisa is the deuteragonist -- the dynamic between them, and difference in narrative importance between them, decidedly precludes them being co-protagonists. I'll admit that Touhou is a bit odd in this aspect however as Reimu, despite being the protagonist, has never been the central pov character in any official work. Ergo, while Touhou is _about_ Reimu, her story is shown to us through the lens of characters in her vicinity. Marisa is probably the only character in-universe who actually truly knows who Reimu is, while everyone else only have perspectives of her based upon the sides of her that they see when they're interacting with her and/or what they need her to be/what she needs to be to them. This is, of course, by design, and also, in fact, a bit of a central theme in Touhou: Everyone has hidden depths and no-one is in truth the first impression you get of them. The same person can be both good and evil, a genius and an idiot, a hard worker and a lazy bum, without contradiction, but we usually only ever see one side of them... Reimu, in particular, has so many sides to her that your impression of her is meant to be completely different depending on which sides of her you've been exposed to via which Touhou works you've read or played and what your interpretation of her is like based upon _other characters'_ interpretation of her.
Hello from Ukraine! You sayed everything nice and clear, I more than sure that more people will be interested and know about Touhou. In Ukraine and Russia only somewhere 8-5% of population know about Touhou. I'm lucky to know Touhou. #nowar
Touhou is a curse, once you get into it there is no escaping from it. Wherever you go, any game fandom you go in it will be there. It will be there in real life. I been trying to escape it for 5 years and I still haven't escape it, for you if you can read this and don't know what touhou is. Turn back. Discard it because once you know it fully you can't escape it.
Current poll on the Touhou subreddit showed the largest portion of the fanbase are fans due to the music. It truly is insane how many remixes of each song you can find. Personally loved the games and lore, but feel most people will first be introduced by the music, which is amazing. Zun has joked something along the lines that his music CD's come with a free videogame.
Tbf it is easier to share a song than a game one takes 2 minutes and is easy while the other is difficult leading manny to not experience it.Since I have gotten into touhou a bit . I very much understand the truth of people saying "oh I love touhou but I haven't played the games."
Nooo Touhou 10 is one the last games I'd recommend to start with ;-; It's like the second hardest game, especially for a beginners! (unless you play with Marisa B, stay between 3 and 4 Power and only use unfocused Mode ;P )
The problem with a franchise like this is everyone has their own opinion of what to start with. I've come across the bug with Marisa but haven't taken the time to figure it out. I have yet to beat stage 4 on normal so you saying it's the second hardest game makes me feel better lol.
Just got into the series. My friends were a little shocked because I’m not a fan of anime but I explained to them this is not anime; this is intense concentration and memorization. My retro community is focused more on NES game challenges and speed runs. Meanwhile I was a Sega fanboy and played a lot of more shooters, making these games a fun platform to engross myself in. I bought a Reimu and Marisa figure because of my new love of this series.
@@cirkitt yeah I played Phantasy Star and Lunar. I’m not trash talking anime. It just never was my thing. But this TouHou stuff… I need more. Marisa and I are going to tear down some yokai.
@jba2048 I didn't take it as you trashing anime I just found it odd that your friends were surprised by "anime" game when you mentioned that you deal in retro gaming So it'd be surprising if you didn't stumble onto one. I guess connotation can be werid. Thanks for the convo
@@cirkitt I guess I never really made a connection between JRPGs and Anime until the 2000s when the two kind of merged together. I liked anime back in the 80s in the 90s but lost interest when I went to college in the late 90s. I neglected to mention because I didn’t want people to assume I was an a-hole; my friends and I jokingly tease each other and I tease my “Final Fantasy” friends calling them “weeb games”, so that’s why they were surprised because they are like “oh so now look who’s playing weeb games”. Just friendly trolling.
Ever since I discovered Touhou, I NEVER WANT TO LOOK BACK. THIS IS ONE OF THE SINGLE BEST THINGS EVER MADE AND I'M OBSESSED. Played all the mainline games (with STB, DS and GFW included), fan games and attempting the games on lunatic rn. And don't even get me started on the music, It's just too good. I don't think I've spent a single day since I discovered Touhou without listening to it's music (when I have a screen ofc). Zun created a miracle franchise and we're proud of him aren't we?
Touhou 15.5 is the most accessible of the fighting games and the way enemy spell cards are utilized makes story mode worth your time. 17.5 is also very accessible but what I mostly remember about it was Murasa's hitboxes bugging out, the screen freezes and an update patch that would literally render the game unable to start so good luck with that one. You know there's a problem when I found Scarlet and Violet's state *normal* after that
Just came here to comment bout the spinoffs Despite being collaborative efforts, all of the numbered spinoffs are canon and even introduce characters that become relevant later on in the main games, or even continue immediately where the game before it left off
@cirkitt ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-24Eh2-DZTgQ.html a friend of mine who loved tf2 never knew this was based on a 2hu video until i got into it. the song night of nights and others they loved turned out to be touhou (especially jarring for the osu player i know) images of characters we've seen but thought were just strange mascots for music were something more. it feels like stumbling upon forbidden knowledge
@@cirkittPersonally, when I first got into the touhou rabbit hole. These are some pieces of popular media that I didn't know, at first, actually originated from Touhou: -Japanese goblin -Fumos -Ronald mcdonald insanity -Bad apple, which also uses a song of some old touhou music I honestly didn't know about -Omae wa mou remix of tiny little adiantum ( which is a remix of Yuuka's theme) by Shibayan records and just Shibayan records in general -that particular part in Mr.incredibles becoming canny uses "Embraced by the flame" which is a metal remix to Rin's theme -Doki doki waku waku -Sad amogus anime eyes (originated from Junko crying in a mini comic) -gg, skill issue -Momiji flute -Awoooo 56709 -hey mister (I suggest not searching this up) If you've played some rhythm games before: -Galaxy collapse, a remix of Nue's theme -Flawless wings of yatagarasu, a remix of Utsuho's theme -Everything will freeze, a metal remix of Sakuya's theme -Xenogen's metal remix of Suwako's theme (Native faith) -Cirno's perfect math class -Armageddon by LeaF & Optie, another cool remix of Utsuho's theme, which features Utsuho Reiuji in the animation Yeah, most of these are just songs, which really says a lot about me. Anyways, I'm still a recent fan so I'm 100% sure that there are still more I have not yet discovered. Good luck to me and you, lol. (also sorry for bad english :v) (Edited, just added a few more things, don't mind this :^ )
The checkpoint/continue system in the series is weird. Some games throw you to the beginning of the stage, but some have you pick up where you've left (and the very first game has infinite continues so you can just throw yourself at the game until you clear it). Oh yeah also LoLK's Point Device system but uhhhh I think ZUN based that a bit on I Wanna Be The Guy checkpoints. LoLK's also like the longest game in the series and given the way the system works, patterns are less forgiving cause you just get to respawn back there. Some also think that the final boss of LoLK is ZUN taking a piss at the absurdity of some attack patterns in CAVE games. (yes there is a mode that makes you play it like a regular game and it's obviously more painful)
interesting I didn't come across this information while researching the other games.Spawning where you died sounds like it could be even more annoying depending on how it functions.I'll have to look into it.
@@cirkitt The older games make you drop F power items when you lose your last life, which set you to full power, though idk if it was changed in later games.
@@cirkitt You spawn back at the checkpoint with 0.01 less power (I think it caps at 0.50 power lost) with LoLK's point device mode. Generally the checkpoints are situated where you're not in imminent danger of dying, but it really makes you figure out resource management with bombs or just learning to dodge all the attacks.
That's definitely one way of saying you are a basic af fan only into touhou because of memes. 🙄 I swear the western fanbase is FUCKED edit: omg your channel is reaching so hard to be popular through niche topics
I remember when my brother got me in to Touhou when I was like 7-8 yrs old (im 23 now) and the very first Touhou game I played was Touhou Pocket Wars 2nd but I didnt know what the hell I was doing at the time and all I know was there was cute/cool looking girls on the screen xD
You might want to check out bith fangames of Lost Branch of Legand (basically Slay the Spire but with Touhou) and Puppet Dance performance (pokemon but with touhou) both games are very well done and could serve as bigger stepping stone into the lore in general as you wonder 'who dis'
well, as a touhou lover myself (my pfp is fanart of two characters from the series), the algorithm sent me here. Great to see a newcomer to this franchise! Thanks for making a video for this relatively obscure (in the west) franchise
I was very surprised to find out how popular it is. Its community is so sprawling it's a rabbit hole in itself.I actually tried to get on MCgensokyo which is considered a gem of the Chinese side of the community but I couldn't get Java to boot sadly. Thanks for checking out my video
"A *Brief* History of..." Though I was more interested in their startup from Atari, Inc., 2600 VCS days, then into the 8-bit home computer video-game market, until they later became a video-game publisher, pre-internet boom, IIRC... And yes, Activision made many of the very best, most high quality video-games you could buy and play at home at the time, with the two aforementioned _River Raid_ and _Pitfall!_ being instant "classics" when released, which Time has likewise borne out. They made and published those games themselves, ya know hehehe
if you're asking if there's somewhere to download it then no currently there isn't if you have a suggestion on where to upload it I'd be happy to make it public
Thank you for pointing this out the number should be 100 thousand copies not million that is far from the truth.I have clue how I ended up changing it to that.
Ok now I understand why Power Ranger has never been an action movie. Because Bandai is Toy Company. so clearly they are a part of children's movies. Like Nintendo's Pokemon, no action only adventure Ash ketchup and Pika.
