Man all this talk ain't bout nuthin'....I knew Gengis when he was a shy rapper and NEG from way back playing up forestville in a storefront. Now truth be told about rappers or talkers as we used to call them in DC was Funk and Benny was the standard for almost every band. Chuck did his own thing but the style of rapping that actually shaped the bands in the early 80's and forward came from dudes deciding whether or not they wanted to sound like Funk or Little Benny. And that is the TRUTH!!! I came up before Go-Go existed so I saw how it took form and shape. Some people grew up where Go-Go already existed so you have to do research to learn the origin and its more than what you can read some things you just had to live in it. Also S/O to Redds because he had a style too that Mass extinction took on and I think Sugar Bear used to rap like Redds too before Benny mentored him on how to rap to the crowd. With all that being said......Buggs (Steven) is old school ....Buggs loved Funk but he also loved Benny too. Buggs combined both and for folks who grew up on JYB then Buggs was your man before Chris or Geng. Pound for pound back in the early 90's I think Chris was the better rapper. Chris commanded his band better than Geng....NEG played more polished music than BYB. Junk was raw and the covers they played were crankin' but Baker cudnt do no more than street crank. NEG actually practiced enough to make polished music. Geng back in the 90's rapped.. he talked to the crews in the crowd and honies but Back was scripted. Rapper had a talent more like Funk to rap to the crowd , play the music but drop it in the socket just like Funk used to . NEG was a well oiled machine and I am old skool and I don't give bands credit undeserving. I believe EGO killed NEG they had a solid band but hey....I can also see why Chris would call himself the "Crank Father". You could play for a no name band with no shows and still have groupies around the way and that's 4 real! So imagine the dudes that actually play in a band that is known all over the city and elsewhere and got albums you can buy on Amazon now??? They feelin like they Jay-Z or Drake right now. 4 reel 4 reel Go-Go aint never going worldwide. I still got over 350 cassette tapes with shows folks wud pay money to get from me. It is wat it is. A DC thang. Chris can rap, Gengis can rap but can't none of them bamas freestyle now that's what da beef need to be over. LOL. Buggs and Funk didn't even try to freestyle they just do wat they know to do and holla at da honies. **To note there a lot of band talkers that cranked the bands--- too many to name but my point was that it was the Benny or Funk style that most band talkers emulated.

Really likes how Big G is conducting himself in talking this out.. Maturity is the reality.. Yes. Chuck, Buggs, Funk, Lil Benny, Big G, etc.. All helped put gogo where it is today. Chris in my opinion is the best lead of all time.. Bias because I’ve know Chris since 1991 and he just keeps getting better with time like fine wine 🍷
