I'm in Wales in the UK. I've just walked back into the house after finding the rear left tower in my 98 SF Forester horrendously rusted through. Thanks for inspiring me to repair it. I love that car too much to let it die.
What size wheel and tire are you going to do? I actualyl have the same Aerosim kit and have enkei gtc01 et 38 17x9.5 wrapped with 275x40 falken azenis. fills the large wheel wells nicely and provides incredible grip...but i've grown tired of the look and want an 18" wheel. hard to find something like the OZ superturismos in anything wider than 8". Even with spacers, I wonder if the wheel will look too narrow.
Every time I think my rocker panels are in bad shape (I mean... they are) I just open up your guys' channel and realize that things really aren't so bad for me.
I'm a general contractor I remodel homes but I do welding also and I know how to work on cars but I will restore my own car and do all the details you do but when it's for somebody else how much could you charge for something like that you're looking at $15,000 or more how much do you charge for something of this nature that you just did if you don't mind telling me
@@RobertRandin we are in Canada, currently our body work rate is $75/hr for cut and weld and $65/hr for normal body prep and paint. This datsun, I did for a good friend who owned it since new. I charged him $15k plus material at the time.
I use the cutting grinder all the time with cutting wheels man I lost almost the finger without wearing gloves you should be very careful just worried about you
currently doing this swap on my 06 WRX Would you also recommend exhaust AVCS block off plates to prevent oscillation of oil pressure? and Would you also recommend swapping the cams from the old ej255 to the used ej20x, or at least the cam gears to non avcs exhaust cam gears?
Would I be able to swap this and drive on factory tune and pass deq or would I have to get. A custom tune to be safe it’s for my 05 legacy gt wagon automatic
@@ricerlife8322 you would be able to do this exact swap in your 05 LGT, you would pass smog as this swap would present no check engine lights. However it is recommended you get a tune for sake of timing difference and displacement change. Look into an opensource tune in your area prior to considering this swap though, just so you dont end up with nobody to tune it.
@@TheSubieSanctuary I just wanted to make sure I can pass deq I’m gonna be getting Cobb soon and calling around Tuner shops to see for a custom tune thanks for the info just wanted to make sure before I pull the trigger on the swap and get it back on the road again
@@3G4Runner_N_Gunner i had just called my local subaru dealer. I got it just as i made this vid. Its said the parts that are becoming NLA on the gd’s and gc’s, super lame. Call your nearest dealer with the part number and they will check all of North america and japan for stock
Hi there, once again! So, on my exact swap as yours, I moved the knock sensor from the 25 to the 20. The car has been tuned (well partially... Domtune said he couldn't get the boost over 9PSI and didn't finish "high output" tuning). Anyway, after some long highway driving, fine knock learn was reading kindof high. Do you think the knock sensor listening on the slightly different engine is a factor? Or could you suggest other reasons? Is it only a real concern if the knock learn remains consistently high? thanks, again!
What would happen if I installed an aluminum cover on the VVT that is not going to be used, would it cause any damage to the engine? Could someone answer my question? thnx
Всё конечно хорошо, но не совсем понятно скорлупу только поменяли что-ли, а усилители порогов, а внутренние арки, а полы, там труха осталась, вы что перекупы что-ли?!?!? 🤔 😁 😁 😁
@@_DeboshiR towers were fine, the floor did have a small patch done on driver side. We do drop down lift points for the jack between the layers. This amount of work would not be worth doing to try and sell it after. This job exceeded the value of the car. People just love their old subarus
I've done a lot of research and Launsport is definitely the closest kit to the genuine 22b. people rave about ABW and don't get me wrong they are great but Launsport is more accurate and much easier to fit. I've seen a launsport car in japan next to a genuine 22b and it was super close apart from the front lip, however, they have now updated it as seen with the kit you have :) I am ordering a launsport kit to Australia for my type R v limited.
I came to the same conclusion after a long time of research and comparison. Launsport is hard to beat if your looking for great fit and accuracy. Beyond happy with my kit and the fella at Launsport is a great guy to deal with. Exceeded my expectations over all. Your type R will be happy to wear this kit no doubt!
@@TheSubieSanctuary lovely people at the launsport shop too. definitely a huge language barrier, but they were happy to use Google Translate and move the cars around for me to look at them side by side. they even offered to drop me at the local train station after :) purchased the 22b bonnet vents while I was there which are great and some other bits
@@BCBC-x2c have you personally got a kit from the project and installed it? Im aware of the project kit, definitely nice stuff. There is also Antonenko’s kit which Id peg in the same realm. Currently neither are in the budget for a walk around. But Im sure it will happen soon enough
Really excellent video and the details and close ups are super. I am using a plastic or ABS front bumper that is a 22b knock off and honestly FRP bumpers are just a bit insane but I guess not a daily unless you are lucky. The other thing is the front impact bar? Man the JDM piece is basically nothing and I am going to work on making some additional structure. I know light weight and don't crash but I want something there. It is a bit of a problem just because of the open design of the cover. Really nice stuff and hope you do a little follow up on wheel specs used. I see them on the internet but not sure how they will translate to an aftermarket kit because I see some different specs on the width increases. Thanks, appreciated.
I do agree on the jdm front beam, its only good for holding up the bumper. There is definitely enough room at least to reinforce better behind the bumper at least. We already have the wheels that we will use on the car, so definitely stay tuned!
If you use the ej20y engine (same swap process) cobb ap required all emissions components hence the need for ej20y rather then the ej20x. Cobb does not have a map for this engine, however the cobb can be used to tune the ej20y without issue
How did you deal with the change in wheelbase? GC8 is 99.2 in (2,520 mm) while the 2005 STi is 100.0 in (2,540 mm)? Did you simply keep the GC8 driveshaft?
Everything except the body is 2005 sti now. Control arms , subframes, all axles, driveshaft etc. So we didn’t have any issues in that aspect. But i do know what you saying. I’ve personally not experienced any issues with gd hybrid swaps into gc’s
@@TheSubieSanctuary Right. The difference in wheelbase is a function of the suspension/drivetrain components, not the body. In other words, even though the wheelbase is different, everything is bolt-on. I ask 'cause I'm looking to do the same with my MY93 GC. It also looks like the swap is only possible up to 2007, 2008 seems like too much has changed (double wishbone, wheelbase, etc.)
@@lukirc correct on the 92-07 simple compatibility vs getting anything from the 08+ as they wont really bolt up and completely different suspension layout
@@austinaguilar7888 ideally if the sti shell has its harness still then you would want to get 32bit cylinder heads. D25, B25 or V25. If the sti doesn’t have its harness then you could swap your wrx harness into it and leave your motor as is. There is many ways to do it, really just need to pin down your objective and budget to see which path you want to take
Dude perfect timing I’ve always been hesitant to buying one of these motors for my 04 Forester Xt, I’ve seen plenty of ej20x/ya for sale but didn’t want to mess with any of the exhaust AVCs stuff, this way looks a lot easier and I’ll definitely be shopping for a new motor since my other Xt spun a bearing and now it’s time for a swap. I’m assuming a 2015 Sti red manifold and turbo will bolt up as well? Super helpful video and will definitely also rewatch a bunch of times when it comes to the swap I’ll be doing!
@NATEDIZZLES813 yes and no. The 205 in this vid is often double the cost of 20x/y and has standard comp ratio and correct timing to replace the 255/257. The 20x is high comp, better internals but incorrect timing even with the timing mod its not 100% without doing a cam swap. There is pro’s/con’s to each option. But minor really both really capable units
