Important to note that velocity out of a 16” barrel, 5.45 and 5.56 are virtually the same, give or take. You mentioned specifically out of a 20” barrel, which the US fielded in Vietnam, and what 5.56 was made for, but I think the more accurate comparison is with an AK74’s 16” barrel length. Most AR15s in the US are 16” as well.
I have one for sale that is a lot like this one, but is 9'6" long. It is from Punjab India and believed to have been made around 1670s to 1770s. No import markings, but does have some biblical righting on it that's in an older Indian dialect. The stock is all one peace of wood, so it's a large portion of one tree. It's in good shape for it's age and is a real hulk of a rifle, very heavy.
@@weswest3031 It was spotty for a few rounds, then started wrecking things, dented the rollers, and one came off when I took the bolt out. Not sure what the date of the ammo was, but it's a known thing, ig. There's probably Turkish 8mm you can get away with but it's rolling the dice, in my experience.
