Arizona needs to redesign the run game. The rushing plays develop too slow and are too easy to read. Play action is not effective. Emulate the route concepts and running game concepts that were so effective last year. We have all the film
UA has been exposed completely. Not good at all. 56yds rushing while K-State had 230+ and a balanced attack. Going to be tough getting the win on the road in Utah.
Most concerning to me is the inability of the staff to correct the deficiencies of the previous games. Diversifying play calling, eliminating stupid penalties, containing defensively. Let's hope the bye week proves fruitful, or we're in for a long season.
People will hate me for saying this, but when you pull lineman from Syracuse Long Beach Polly Community college, in the long term is probably not a good recruiting strategy. Jedd was getting lineman that were back up players for Michigan and Georgia. Those are probably the kind of players that we need to be recruiting. Also, we don't know yet if Patterson is anywhere close to as good as Jacob Cowing was. Maybe he will be but maybe he won't be. Outside of McMillan are these other receivers going to be able to get open consistently. If they can't then we need to recruit better. Also, I don't know why the best high school running back.in the state Kayden Luke Is just being wasted and not getting any carriers yet. I think their plan is to probably redshirt him for sure this year... But if he doesn't start getting some carries next year, I don't know, maybe he transfers to Arizona State given that ASU understands how to use a full-back style runner as an every down tailback basically. I think he needs to get some carries in real game action and not just used as a blocker in short yardage situations. I don't think Kayden Luke can really showcase his strengths in practice because he doesn't want to injure his own teamates(linebackers). I'm really not sure that they're using all of their talent yet and that's a coaching staff problem. I'm not optimistic to be honest with you.
3 games are enough to conclude that the offense schemes are offensive.😑 Don't know the fix, but Brennan needs to assist Babers. Defense was ok, besides the continuing edge contain issues. But many score predictions had K-state scoring in the 30s. And Johnson is an elite runner, and was an effective passer last night. Adjustments over the next 2 weeks are crucial.
51 years I've been a fan of Arizona football. 51 LONG years. Sorry Arizona I'm breaking up with you. You hired another sub par clown who is clearly in over his head. Damn Shame Noah And T-Mac stayed. I feel bad for them.
Purple Cat Fan here… it wasn’t until K-State was up 21 points that I thought they were going to win the game. Y’all are a talented group, hats off to ya. Use the bye week and Beat the Hell out of Utah in 2 weeks.
You're really good! Babers seems to be a bad choice. At the time, I was hoping for Kinne & his Texas St staff to be hired. I hope Brennan can get it turned around. Ot things could be really bad ahead.
It's time to give Jedd Fisch some credit for what he did at Arizona. If the UofA Athletic Director and the President had not fallen down on their job, Jedd Fisch would still be at Arizona. So would Jonah Coleman, Big Bill Norton, Ephesians Prysock, Demond Williams and other huge playmakers. With the momentum that he created, he would no doubt have brought in a Top 15 recruiting class, and we would be in a lot better place than we are now.
I may be naive in this, but I think Arizona could’ve kept Fisch at around the $4.5-$5 million number (for at least a couple years) if they’d gotten the contract done in December. While the breakdown may have been on Fisch in the end, there were a few important people that were more worried about the optics of the budget issue than getting the coach’s contract done early.
The defensive line needs to do a better job of setting the edge. As far as the defensive backs, it look like they’re playing more zone than they were bump and run. I want to see more bump and run type coverage from the DB because I think they do better in that type of defense than they do zone. I dunno. Maybe just me.
Offensive scheme is concerning. They never got into a rhythm. We never saw a good flow. They dominated with explosive plays with T mac. Its early yes but the offense needs an identity asap. Also enough with the RPO. If Fifita doesn't run you're fooling no one. Inside and outside zone. They have the horses.
Great breakdown, Matt. But I think you're off on the pass rush comment when you say outside of Justin Flowe, we don't know what we have. I haven't been to any of the practices, but unless the whole staff and other media have agreed to not say anything about Flowe, to keep him a secret, we don't know about him either. There is a reason that this "5 star" hasn't flourished at Oregon or the past coaching staff. I hope he has a breakout year. Moving on, keep ul the great work amd BEARDOWN!! 🐻⬇️
@@josephstevenson552 Thanks Joseph, and great points! I think guys like Tre Smith and Ta’iTa’i will have more productive years rushing the passer, but Flowe is really the only edge guy they bring back who produced for Arizona in 2023. Flowe hasn’t progressed to being an every-down contributor, but I think they’ll find ways to use him. Especially if they struggle to get organic pressure with the front four.
The Fifita comparison to Masoli is a pretty good one. I reffed a few of Masoli's games when he was a Soph QB @ Serra HS in San Mateo. Masoli was an ideal fit for Chip's offense at Oregon, just like Fifita was a good fit for Coach Fisch's scheme in '23. The question that remains is, how will Fifita perform with Dino Babers as his OC and play caller? Last year at Syracuse, Babers' offense ranked #97 overall and #114 in Passing. Can Noah and the offensive unit adapt to the new coaching scheme in '24? We shall see.
Great points here, Rich. From what we've seen in camp, Babers is employing a lot of heavy sets to establish things in the run game. We'll see a lot more "pro style" (current pro style, not the traditional sense) offense this year, leaning on the run to set up the pass. Noah and TMac are the constants, so if the run game becomes a force, this offense could be dominant.
I see Noah Fafita as a Jeremiah Masoli type, not as a runner but as a playmaker. Our running backs are going to bust some big runs this season and surprise a lot of people. Bear Down! 😁
Well it’s not really because they are in game week. It’s because one reporter can’t follow the rules because they don’t apply to him. He continues to do it year in and year out. A Shane a hack like Kelly, who has another year on his contract to do the pre and post game show, ruins it for us fans. Call like it is Matt. Don’t protect idiots like him
