Why 'Tiger 8 Heavy'? Well, back in the early 1980's I bought my first Airband radio and I especially remember the 'Tiger' callsign used by the US freight airline, Flying Tigers. I thought it was so cool and I loved the airlines' livery too. Sadly I never got to record it and Flying Tigers disappeared in 1989 following a merger with Federal Express - but that failure prompted me, in the early 1990's, to start recording my logged flights for posterity.

This channel consists of those recordings. The majority of the airlines and aircraft represented here are no longer flying. It is my hope that this channel will bring back fond memories for aviation enthusiasts, pilots, air traffic controllers and passengers who remember these flights.

Sadly there is no video footage - but I always felt there was something special about airband radio :)

If the content prompts memories, please share them in the Comments section.

Thanks for visiting ,

Amazing! Before our time, but recognise a few of those callsigns from 15 years later than this recording.

Great to see this channel active again! Would love to hear anything from the milair aircraft that were more present back in the 90s. I remember Vortex, Hawk, Tiger, Scout, AAC callsigns back in the early 2000s.

Absolutely love this stuff. Have you anything more to upload? Would happily take a copy of all this stuff if you had it, especially the milair side.

Anything really! Early 2000s would be good if you have it but seriously I'd listen to anything old like this. Any UHF mil would be even better :)

I missed the DC8-73N795FT very much. 1990, the DC8-73 was operated between HDY -TYO JP -LAX- HDY in every weekend. At that time, I was in LAX intl-terminal..old Pam-Am bldg. The bird was just in front of my room. Its good days.

Lol, thanks Terry for the post and sharing your memories of this flight - I always loved seeing it coming in as we didn't and still don't get many 747's BFS

Wow! I can't believe this, there is a very high probability I unloaded this flight when it made it back to YVR. We were always a little surprised when this bird actually made it back. The cabin crew told us at one time there were safety cards from a couple different airlines floating around the seat pockets, and when you looked at the sides in the right light you could make out the previous livery. It was ALWAYS a real pain in the butt to get the baggage cans off and then back on in the turn time just because the roller mechanisms were always either broken or missing. One of the first times i was watching the wing while it was parking at the gate #4 engine came within about 2 feet of colliding with the machine which loads the cans in the hold, the base manager for the company was watching and was a little less than pleased I didn't stop the plane to move the fmc lol, almost lost my job on that one. Thanks for posting this Trevor.
