I'm not surprised by the runway show after all fashion is a competitive sport. The Olympic uniform for France looked awful and far from what one would expect from a country that boasts having the best dressed Army. Mongolia's uniform is very impressive. I would love to examine them to see the construction details. Am still drooling over it. Korea was drab and uninspiring as could be. No wonder they were mistaken for North Korean.
Do you suppose that Paris could have prefaced it's theme to a wider audience, especially those people that are banning everything and anything that has to do with the Olympics because of the Greek Bacchanal display, which most people took as a mockery to Jesus at the Last Supper??? Not pretty and over they top with no explanation. Paris seems to owe a lot of answers to the world of Christians with whom I am one of . Thank you for the clarity on Leonardo DaVinci's "Last Supper". I wish everyone in the world could know all of this information.
I believe “people” were far too happy to jump to quick (and incorrect) judgement when it comes to the bacchanal display being mistaken for a depiction of the last supper. There’s so much wrong with that. First, as Christian’s, it is not your place to judge - judgement lies with god alone. Next then, to assume it was a mockery is ridiculous, and again casts judgement on those who participated and those who choreographed and designed the piece. Next, the depiction of the last supper is just that - a human’s creation from their imagination, and has zero relation to the actual event itself, not least in its casting of a Caucasian man in the place of Jesus. It is not a holy artefact, and should not be idolised - as directed by god, idolatry is a sin. So trying to tear down a moment of fashion and dance and diversity and inclusion as being a mockery of some perceived Christian idol is a bit rich, non?
@@rosey_ie there were A LOT of people jumping and no one was happy. Not all people are schooled in the arts but most people know about the Last Supper.
Brought me back to several years ago. I was still in the very awkward sewing phase. Would have been less painful if I had ignored the HS sewing teacher and sewed as much aunt taught me when I was 12. Still they are the ones that bring fondest memories because they were the beginning of my journey. These days I have a very high level of skill and would go back in time to bar my old HS teacher and the one from college from teaching people how to sew, because they taught awful construction. No amount of your tips will reduce the look of a home sewn project from hell, which I was taught. Studied at another college and also took classes when deployed overseas. That is what I do now. I still get a big thrill out of a finished project though.😊
Hi, Alex, these were great tips! When you are doing an adjustment, do you pin on the wrong side of the fabric, or are you doing the pinning of the excess fabric on the right side of the fabric? I'm asking because...I would think you have to take out the pins and then flip it inside out and then repin it again. I hope that makes sense.
Aw, thanks Zelda. I usually put the muslin on wrong side out and pin on the wrong side, for the reason that you mentioned :) And sorry I haven't been watching your videos as much lately...I sometimes get stressed being on RU-vid and just want to post a video and get off, haha. I'm going to subscribe to your channel on my personal RU-vid account and comment from there.
@alexneuf7526 Trust me, I understand in no worries! When you get around to watching me, that will be fine... But take good care of yourself because that is most important.
Oh no, I'm so sad I didn't see it! It is beautiful! I will make a video just about it. However, I don't appreciate what I perceive as a rude tone from you. Please don't comment like that on my videos again.
Chanel is sooo hit or miss for me, ESPECIALLY the styling choices. Also I loveee the deconstructed Thom Browne pieces!! They feel so reminiscent of this year's Met Gala theme hahaha I wish I saw more deconstruction there
I knoooow...why was there not more deconstruction at the met gala?! So many people just did basic flower stuff and missed the opportunity to do interesting deconstruction or decaying looks
While I can see all the work that goes into haute couture, much of it these days doesn't appeal, largely because it isn't practical. Some designs grab me and I want an avant garde look too. Chanel is hit or miss. I often like the suit but deplore how it's styled. I do wonder about construction and how some of the outlandish pieces were constructed. If I had a line, I doubt that anyone would be wowed seeing it on the runway but get excited to examine the garments in person.
Spoken like a true garment construction enthusiast! I definitely think there is a place in fashion for beautiful clothes that fit well and are made well, even if they're not "exciting". I agree with Chanel being hit or miss...I wish they would just do "nice" clothes and stop with the weird styling.
I will say all house are different when approaching couture. I was taught by a couturier and she emphasizes economy of time when working. So having the know how to cut down on time to work efficiently and accurately which takes years of experience. You do about 4 or 5 muslins just getting the perfect final sample. I will say most of the work is done during the prep work only working flat in the table which is padded also known as “the third hand”. Your able to iron and pin as your working which helps if your shaping the material or you need to baste something without the fabric shifting. All the prep work is what makes haute couture special just for accuracy when working with expensive silks.
Hi Alex, love your channel and wit! Yes I totally get it. I live in Montreal and started a professional sewing (last april 2024) to boost my present sewing skills. I have a Bernina at home, and Babylock serger. Of course the school has Jukis and OMGGggggg they are fast AND I was not happy about it because they are Soooo fast and had no control over them...and the Juki serger - the pedals are so sensitive!! I had to start over my piece since i had no knowledge of its speed and it sliced right through it -snifff..but by the time we finished for this summer on June 17, i am in love with the juki. Like you say, now my home machines are so much different. I paid a lot for my home ones and don't have the means to upgrade...but I hear you. We start back class August 27 and this time non stop evening classes till March 2026 (yikes!). Eager to speed sew soon! Take care and continue with your videos. Linda x
I wasn't sure if I liked the muted colors at first, but they've grown on me, haha. And I agree that it feels modern despite referencing the 70s/having vintage vibes
I think it’s about time fashion is treated like an art form. These are live sculptures with ethereal clothing. I love it. Also, models are models. Some modeling is done in an art studio while painters paint and do studies. She is referencing that history of art by keeping the models in one place. It’s fantastic.
I think its very fitting, since haute couture has become so high end & high fashion that its barely practical (& it's also not meant to be for whatever reason), but since its art why not portray it the same way we view other forms of art already.
So excited for this! I don't think I've seen anyone explain the sewing techniques in the book in reference to claire's method. Looking forward to learning more 😊
In one dark fantasy story I wrote this was literally a way to objectify people- So I see your point well 😩 Tbh it could also symbolize otherworldly beauty and imaginery of godesses, so i can also see past that
I like your video. I liked how you did everything and explain about the coat. Canada Goose Gilets and jackets are Good quality and Lifetime Warranty is so good. They are lovely jackets and definitely worth buying if anyone can afford them. I enjoyed watching. I was thinking of Getting a Canada Goose or a Moncler myself. Ofc you’re paying for the brand but also you are getting good quality with them.
Ok sorry, that wasn't very nice, you don't have to go away. For various reasons, I am fairly certain that this one is not a fake, however even if it were, I don't think that matters for the purposes of this video because they did such a good job emulating CG's construction techniques!
@@alexneuf7526 I own 4 different legit Canada Goose jackets such as Wyndham, Lodge, Maitland, Chiliwack and I am a frequent user in the Canada Goose forum. I know pretty much everything about those jackets and almost any jacket for around 100$ on ebay is fake.
Hey Alex! I stumbled across your channel via youtube shorts this week and have been absolutely loving your videos. Keep doing your thing! Youre super cool
I'm really enjoying your videos, your video about fitting a sloper made me try Seamly and I finally have a decently fitting bodice 😅 I also love this book, I browse it from time to time to motivate myself, so I can't wait to see what you achieve with it. I've recently found Claire's RU-vid channel where she shows her haute couture clothing collection, it's so nice to look through garment construction so out of my league lol
YAY, I'm so glad you have a bodice that fits decently! That's not an easy feat!! And yes I love watching Claire's videos as well and just appreciating the fact that there are people out there with that level of skill
I do some haute sewing but prefer my own way. It achieves the same effect. Sometimes hand sewing is the best way. Looking forward to seeing your finished garment.
I like much of his collection. The mixing looks really cool and shows.how things can be interchangeable. Most of my clothes are black and a few items are black and x color. So I see some ways to accessorize.
Hem the dress! I can round up a bunch of tiny Korean old ladies to get after you to finish lol. As for tools, I practice using various feet and it's less painful when I'm using them for a project. Over time, the skill slowly builds up. I almost always buy extra fabric when doing projects. It's a Murphy's Law thing. If I don't buy extra then some kind of disaster happens.
Im just gonna comment here about your Virginie's video. It sad to see Virginie got harsh critique which they only focused on the "ugly" piece, even Karl or any designer have few ugly design too. Maria Grazia also got similar criticism bc they want something like Galliano, despite both designer make a lot of sales. I would say that Virginie are more like Gabrielle than Karl, and Maria are more like Marc Bohan.
Ya frankly I think a lot of Karl's designs were ugly. And whether or not something is ugly, you're right, fashion is a business (especially for the big luxury houses) and what they care about is sales, which Virginie Viard has been successful in. If we want 'good' design (which is of course subjective), maybe it's not the big houses we should be looking to.
