The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra has been inspiring, invigorating and entertaining audiences since 1948.
Based in Hobart’s Federation Concert Hall, the 47-piece TSO performs an extensive and varied concert season in Hobart, a smaller season in Launceston as well as concerts elsewhere in Tasmania. The TSO enjoys a profile well beyond the shores of the island state, having taken out major national awards in recent years for performances and recordings. Further afield, the orchestra has toured Asia, Europe, North and South America and the Middle East. Eager to connect with as many Tasmanians as possible, the TSO offers a wide-ranging education and outreach program and attracts diverse audiences to its highly successful Live Sessions concerts, which are given in sheds, microbreweries and other non-traditional venues. Eivind Aadland is the orchestra’s Chief Conductor and Artistic Director.

Need another night at the movies . Organise matinees with schools . You could fill the water tank ten times over with young eager minds that will have a lasting impression on them . Took my old scout group to one about 10 yrs ago , In the carpark thought I had made the biggest mistake ever . Kids everywhere, the second the orchestra broke into Indiana Jones not a child moved till the concert was over . They buzzed over it for weeks .
What a brilliant memory! Our schools matinees are always so special ☺️ We’re currently touring Words & Music around the state and have a few other concerts for schools and kids happening at Federation Concert Hall coming up. Would love to have you back again!
We love it too! It's Wild Swans, Eliza Aria by Elena Kats-Chernin - performed by us in 2005, and released on CD with ABC Classics ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g12oNQX3miA.html
Hauntingly beautiful. I believe the composer is danish isn't he ? - Befitting piece to discover here a few days after you had a local citizen crowned Queen of that very country.
Just been to TSO’s 2023 Messiah The choirwork was exceptional i’ve never heard anything like it in my life Other than when the violins came in at some outdoor magic flute english festival lol Thank you it was exceptional
A very effective and moving arrangement for brass ensemble! I sing in a chamber choir AND play (BBb tuba / bass) in a brass band. I think it’s commendable that this arrangement hasn’t merely distributed the vocal parts among the brass players, but has skilfully ARRANGED the music so that the total effect resembles the original. Well done - arranger and TSO!
Bravo! - the bassethorn part includes a couple of sections which are nearly impossible. The young Baermann must have been shocked to have seen it when Mendelssohn put it in front of him - and he must have been some kind of wizard to play it on the bassethorn he would have had in 1832.
Always good to hear this piece. An important point to make is that the _"1999 Canadian Brass Publications LTD"_ copy has the final Fr. horn phrase seemingly and *incorrectly* written on the Fr. horn part. It sounds wrong, and logically IS wrong. The reason being that it was not transposed up a perf 5th from the concert pitches. The Canadian Brass recording has that final Fr. horn phrase played where it should be. The Fr horn written pitches should be [must be] "C - A - F - F"
Wonderful seeing Jabra, whom I've known since his teens along with his family, being so successful and hearing his beautiful composition Jabra congratulations on all you've achieved. You're so inspiring and always were.❤
I just discovered recently who did this fantastic recording, and it's use of the fortepiano is quite beautiful. This has become my favourite rendition and performance of this movement. Do you mind if I ask what prompted you to add the fortepiano?
