The audience couldn't help themselves after the first movement but to respond with applause. (I don't blame them even though in today's concerts it's "not the thing to do.")

Horowitz approaches the majesty in the Scarlatti sonata with the exact pace and heart-felt emotion to enlighten the pristine melody. Sadness can be beautiful, awesome and inspiring, I feel it in my mind.
@@godfreypigott You have to remember that people like this guy don’t care about the performance. All they care about is finding something wrong, something negative to say. They live miserable lives and likely can’t even play chopsticks on a toy piano. They are compelled to spill their bile wherever they can. They are to be ignored and dismissed.
I have heard this work played by so many pianists... After hearing this performance, especially remastered, I will have a hard time going back and listening to those performances. They all seem to fall short in retrospect. Darn you Horowitz! :-)

Horowitz in his absolute prime: second to none at that time as an interpreter of Scriabin - and at long last, audio worthy of him. In his Scriabin, too, I like - just for once - the audacity of his left hand. You've done a cracking good job. 🤗
Benjamin Grosvenor is an amazing pianist, but I can’t help but notice how he’s become more socially tense and awkward over the years. In a documentary when he was 12 and at a mainstream school, he was more socially relaxed and easygoing. I’ve witnessed the same thing happen to people I’ve known personally who socially isolated themselves for long periods of time. He obviously works so hard and has achieved so much at a young age, I think he needs a break, maybe a sabbatical so he can experience life outside the practice room a little more?
