Wow. A performance that should have brought down the house but the audience's applause sounded very tepid at first and then they seemed to warm to a brilliant rendering. Imagine a youth orchestra that sounds every bit as good as a professional one. Only in Russia.
Extremely good rehearsed orchestra with nice details! - Maestro, I was irritated when reading along in the score that the last movement is indicated 'Allegretto'. I know it also in the quick virtuoso tempo. Is there some special reason for this tradition, resp. what kind of music do you consider it, since Weber has many pieces influenced by traditional or folk music like dances (e.g. the 1st Ännchen-Aria from the 'Freischütz' which is a Polonaise)?
A worthy performance by Valentin Uryupin who now stands along side with maestros Kurt Sandlinger. Andre Previn & Vladimir Ashkanazy. This symphony has to be judged by the emotion transmitted by the adajio & the theme generated by the lead clarinet player. I rank Kurt Salnger/Laningrad & Adre Previn/NHK at top..
If I am not mistaken, this is the suite I made from this music for Faber Music to publish in 1995 but with the movements in a different order - nice to see Mr. Rozhdestvensky in the audience
