Tom Harrell and Bob Berg leave me COLD! They are just trying way too hard! Berg should take a few lessons from Lester Young! The electric bass is awfully mechanical and rubbery!

I bought my Conn Victor valve trombone back in 1980. For years it was mostly an instrument to play around with after my main work on tuba. In 2002 I was part of a jazz band startup which already had a tuba, and I started playing the Conn Victor a whole bunch and got much better on it. Twenty years on I feel that I am getting a lot more of what is there out of the instrument. I love valve trombone. It is its own instrument--I rarely try to imitate the sound of a slide trombone. You can hear some of my playing on YT at Monks Jazz Silver Creek Jazz Band. I am always glad to hear that someone else has found satisfaction playing this fairly rare and unique instrument. Well done!

The reasons Horace Silver will never be forgotten aren't readily apparent to everyone. I had a piano teacher once tell me "I never got how heavy he was until I did"

Very beautiful sound and intelligent improvisation, you have a lot of pleasure playing the valve trombone. I hope to hear you more times.

I thought, since no one has yet mentioned it,what a killer tune the opening tune is!.It is called "Adjustment " and was originally on Horace's "Silver and Brass" album from 1975.It has tricky changes, but beautifully ends on a wonderfully unexpected chord(an "A" I think)As for the band, well, whew!!!!!!
