Hi there, I am Effy (they/them, please). Thank you for checking on my channel. I have been on BookTube for a couple of years but I still feel like an absolute newbie 😂 I read most genres of books but I'd say that my main genres are fantasy, thrillers, and... romance? A couple of years ago, I wouldn't have believed you if you had told me that it would be one of my top read genres and I am still not really sure what makes a romance work for me. My favourite authors include Alexis Hall, Charlotte Amelia Poe, John Marrs, and V.E. Schwab.
I am one of those weirdos that generally has multiple books on the go at once and doesn't have an issue keeping the plotlines of each straight which is kinda ironic since I am anything but straight! At the time of writing this intro (September 2023), I am working on clearing my backlog of ARCs as I made the same mistakes that everyone makes when I first registered for with NetGalley, but also, I've several upcoming releases that I'm very excited for.
I know I move quite quickly in this video so if you want a full list of this year's finalists, you can find them here: glasgow2024.org/hugo-awards/2024-hugo-award-finalists/
I think it was because of you that I ended-up picking it up and I agree, it was such a pleasant surprise! I can't wait to read Lally's book that comes out next year too
I am so intrigued with what you think of it too! I worry that I have oversold it but I have such a good time so hopefully that means you will also have a good time?
I might keep forgetting that I was meant to put together some stats...🙈 It is in my trusty Finch app so, no promises, but hopefully next week if I can get the stats to collate
I think Jennifer's Body is possibly my favourite one that I have done to date but I also love the how Romantic Lead came out and all because our resident cinnamon roll decided to sit in a typical MMC pose 😂
Fox is an Elemental they are Spirit/Phoenix shifter they are working for three Careers Aeldia Excavationist, third year of Illusionist Rogue and Mage Hunter. I'm reading my guilds group book (Mind Walker) Fate Inked in Blood And if Fox has time they will do as many extra classes they are over ambitious. Awesome tbr Your background story is awesome Have a great semester at Orilium.
I can see why a lot of folks loved it, it wasn't for me but that is fine, not every book is going to be for every reader and it would be a very boring world if that were the case. I think I am mostly glad that Goodreads made a separate Romantasy category last year so that the Fantasy category wouldn't be a foregone conclusion.
Laurell K Hamilton has a vampire hunter series: Anita Blake (~30 book series) Lynsay Sands has a romance vampire series: Argeneau Series (~35 book series)
I love that both of those series are so long! There is nothing better than finding something new to get stuck into! I will definitely check both of those out, thank you ❤️❤️❤️
@@headinthebooks904 That is almost definitely the case with the dates, it was just really bizarre that when I Googled it straight-up lied to me and said it was published in 2011 🙃
I forgot to mention in this video but I would also love any recommendations for books / public available essays / academic journals which deconstruct the way that vampire tropes are rooted in anti-Semitism. I remember a while back seeing someone say on Twitter they were writing a book specifically about this so if anyone can point me in that direction, I would be eternally grateful ♥♥
Well, do I have a recommendation for you... 👀 I read one called Happy Ever After by C.C. MacDonald and it was just the right level of twisty turny. I did the audiobook and it was pretty serviceable
I happened to find the whole series in the library for give away. I decided to sit down and read part of the first book and I remember how great read it was and I believe it was my first "non-picture" text heavy book I had read. So I decided to look on RU-vid for others thoughts (such as yourself) and might re-read the series now😊
Definitely agree that the characters read younger than their age and even though that could be a product of being back together their child-like personality coming through I don't feel like it was intentionally written this way. (Mister Magic)
These mini patterns were all available via the Witchy Stitcher Patreon December 2023 (i.e. if you are reading this month they are still available if you join her Patreon 👀). Most of the patterns I didn't need to adapt however I did enjoy turning the Ugly Sweaters pattern into two separate pieces. As I mention at the end of the video, my plan was turn all of my finished pieces into ornaments and my hope is that they will be ready for a WIP parade in January. My daily stitch counts were as followed: 13th December - 471 stitches 14th December - 835 stitches 15th December - 908 stitches 16th December - 532 stitches 17th December - 322 stitches 18th December - 0 stitches 19th December - 0 stitches 20th December - 248 stitches 21st December - 833 stitches 22nd December - 138 stitches 23rd December - 560 stitches 24th December - 1044 stitches Remaining stitches across all projects: 1,238
I love the idea of using height as a measure. That's clever. You did a great job! I have books that I listen to and if I love the book, I'll keep it, if not, I'll donate it. If I listen to something and love it, I'll buy the physical copy. Granted I have like less than 50 books but I just started my reading journey this past year. If you are questioning whether to keep a book, get rid of it. If you won't re-read, get rid of it. If something reminds you of someone, give it to that someone. If you're holding onto some for a child or for children, donate them to classrooms. I see you struggling and justifying keeping books, I'm like, "Get rid of them, girl! Joy does not bring doubt!" -Laura from San Antonio, Tx, USA
I like this book list!!! Definitely will be checking these books out! My favorite book series is Laurell K Hamilton Anita Blake series. I also really liked Kim Harrrison's Hollows series and Lynsay Sands' Argeneau series.
I avoid holding too many books by borrowing them from my local public library (especially since they depend on high borrow rates for funding in my US State), and if I like it enough I’ll buy it so I can reread at any time. I’ll also pass down books to my family outside of the US that want to practice reading in English. Some of my books are ebooks as well and it’s helped with the clutter.
