Pointless video. You can go to Bunnings if you want to look at a bunch of screws. Why not do a better video that shows the process properly? Normal time, all disassembly visible in the frame?

I don't disagree. Sony's AF capabilities (like so many other aspects of their cameras) has come a long way in a short time, and I can't definitively say one is better than the other - it comes down to personal preference most of the time. But Canon holds firm in a lot of minds as being the best because they were the first to do it well...the 5DIII remained popular with video shooters years after FAR MORE video capable DSLRs/mirrorless cams had been released largely for this reason. Having taken calls in our Video CS team for years, I can confidently say Canon AF (whether valid or not) is a huge selling point amongst the production population -Drew
Great review. But I have to disagree with the downplay of its usefulness as a cinema camera. Not having raw output is not really a deal breakbreaker. We used 2 of these on set and they worked great! I think it’s a great option for cinema and for run and gun as it’s a bit tougher to run and gun with the c200 or c300. Plus it has timecode.
That's great to hear; glad they're working well for you on set! I didn't mean to downplay the C70's ability as a cinema camera and I'm not surprised to hear it's more than capable in that role...I have the luxury of being surrounded by a ridiculous amount of gear, and the amount of options can sometimes be overwhelming to our customers, so my main objective with these is to provide some clarity and perspective to both our customers & all shooters on primarily why you'd go with one over another when given the choice. There are so many long-form gear review videos out there that do a far better deep dive on all aspects of a camera than I ever could, so instead we try to keep these videos short & practical. It's awesome to have feedback and first-hand experience from the production community through the comments here to help fill in the gaps of areas we didn't have time to fully cover. -Drew
It does. Since it's more of a true video camera, shutter on the C70 defaults to being listed in degrees as opposed to seconds like so many of us have become used to thanks to mirrorless cams & hybrids. So if you're shooting in 24fps, a 180° shutter would be the equivalent of 1/48

It definitely does. It's in a weird spot in the market because its price and some of the features like built in NDs & timecode put it more in line with the FX6...but being the entry point in its brand's cinema line pits it against the FX3. Ultimately for the sake of time in this video, we chose to focus on the FX3 comparison due to its size/build and internal specs. You're right though in that it sits somewhere in between the two Sony cams. -Drew
I would not buy the A7S III, but I chose the FX3 with a 200-600G lens over the FX6. For me absolute must are tally lights and a cooling fan. The FX6 has no steady shot, but has built in ND filter. I also like the compact size of the FX3..
Just reviewed this video. Very informative. One question that needs clarification. If using the 1.4 extender on the 100-400 version 2, i have found it best to shoot in Manual mode due to slow focus in AF, so does the 1.4 extender work best in MF with this lens or not? I might add i am using on a Canon 90d. Thanks for the reply

The handling of the new RF-24-105 is much better then using the adapted version. Shorter, easier to handle, lighter to carry, faster to focus, sharper images that's a no brainer for a lens you will use much often. The 50s are different. The new construction makes them much better wide open and at the edge and also the contrast wide open, handling on the adapter seems uncomfortable and ugly looking but works perfectly. Whether the price point is OK, is difficult to say, but if you consider the number of lenses for a much smaller camera market, they have to be more expensive. And double the price seems to be the standard nowadays for such lenses which are not sold that much.
Mmh god I fucking want that so bad. For my historical preservation photography. To capture sights, buildings landscapes, and architectures as they was before being destroyed or "developed" in an ever changing world.
Too bad that you really didn’t show how it REALLY works. It’s a LOT more elaborate than you show. You conveniently skipped over finding the camera on your phone, enter a name for the camera, work through several other screens and wait for the camera name to show up in your WiFi browser. Click bait.
We're close by with a warehouse in Waltham, MA (HQ is in the Bay Area). Good eye though - those are RI properties I did videos for in the past. Wanted to use some authentic shots from my own real estate reel when discussing the topic. -Drew
Interesting video thanks. Nice to see the plexiglass screen between the two presenters in this time of Covid BUT I noticed the Nikon camera behind and on the top of the self as well as most of the lenses do not have a cover over the lens mount opening to protect the sensor and internal lenses from dust and dirt. Maybe part of the scary movie!!!????

Thank you this was very helpful. As I was playing the video I picked up my iphone 11 pro max and noticed there was a settings option. Never knew what I saw shooting in and the choices are hd 30 -hd 60 - 4k 24 - 4k 30 and 4k 60. Trying to upload a 4k 60 video to facebook was taking forever. Glad I saw this video so I can dumb down my videos a bit.
Glad we were able to help! Don't think of it as dumbing down - it's all about selecting the right settings for the right platform & delivery. Those extra frames and enhanced resolution sound great, but that means more info to store resulting in massive files. Honestly, they're often minimized with compression when uploading anyway, and aren't worth the payoff based on what you're shooting, and the audience that will be watching. Save yourself the effort and frustration if it's not needed! -Drew
