I've so desperately wanted another anime or something like angelic layer to exist. Even the battle doll tournament stuff I tried to watch is not the same. I like yugioh a lot too but still prefer angelic layer. I want to make a game or something inspired by it, if it's allowed, one where it's a combination of a life sim/friendships and stuff you can hang out with friends and bond and have a story mode with arcade fights in tournament in between...I feel like that would be fun. Would probably be pixel art but I want to try it. Definitely customization where you can make your own 'doll' or hologram or whatever I end up using. I might have them be holograms and on virtual reality but similar to the layer for the tournament, since holograms have concerts 2023, why not in a game world fighting holograms? xD Or VR competition, it would be in VR? I would credit angelic layer tho bc it would be so similiar. But I want something like it so bad. But they make cutouts of yugioh and pokemon so why tf not Or someone else make a game..I've been wanting this to exist for years LOL
Not exactly the same, but the idea of using dolls is there and is also around the same time period: Super Doll Licca chan. For a more male-centric one, maybe Microman? From your description though, a more modern take would either be...Busou Shinki(the Moon Angel OVA is more action-centric and superior imo. The series is more SOL), Frame Arms Girl...perhaps Danball Senki(LBX), Medabots ?
