GOING FURTHER WITH THE BARITONE SAXOPHONE ❗️ I have focused my artistic career in the baritone saxophone, an instrument with a large sonority, timbre richness and great versatility able to play any style of music with a very special personality.
I have premiered more than sixty works from multiple musical genres, from solo to opera, by composers such as Joan Bagés Rubí or Albena Petrovic, amongst others.
I have performed in Europe, America and Australasia by presenting my diverse artistic projects, focused mainly on new music. I have recorded two albums for German label SOLO MUSICA: “SUITES - A Tribute to Bach’s Cello Suites” (2023, SM426) and “Dreamlover” (2022, SM396) with the complete production of works for saxophone by Albena Petrovic. My solo discs “Believer” (INS Records, 2015) and “Made in BCN” (La Mà de Guido, 2018) contain featured contemporary works for baritone saxophone. I have also recorded three albums with SAX 3+1 and participated in several recording projects.
Agraeixo la música i la descripció del vídeo. Tot just descobreixo aquest autor. Certament d'inspiració Messiènica, aquesta música és mes aviat un discórrer d'entrellaçades corrents difuses, un cantar de múltiples ocells, més que no pas un discurs lògic quadrat.
Beautiful playing, as ever. Thank you for introducing me to these etudes. I think most of us are familiar with the Lacour set; it's nice to know there's another resource of music built on Messiaen's modes. I think I'm going to get myself a copy.
@@joanmarti-frasquier Agreed - the Lacour book is more about fingers than anything else. From what I've heard in your recent videos, the Ventas pieces contain a lot more music.
This has become the piece of music that I play to transition from one creative task to a new one completely unrelated. It's like the piano wipe that Mozart used to do to clear the air of the previous melody.
Terrific playing, as usual. Clean and clear technique, but also lots of verve, and _music._ A student of mine was recently asking me if there were any classical pieces for baritone. I'm going to send him a link to this video...
Bravo Joan!!.Gran interpretació d' una obra fantàstica. De vegades em ve un sabor a Piazzolla, però també a Bach...Una música que no desdenya les troballes dels clàssics, sense deixar de sonar rabiosament moderna.
Lovely piece, sensitively played. I particularly like your sound in the palm key & altissimo registers -- clear, warm, with a beautiful vibrato. Does the "III" mean it's Lago's third piece with that name, or is it the third movement of a larger work?
The composer manages, without changing the texture or the "profile" of the material all that much, to keep the music interesting throughout the piece. Not an easy feat. It sounds like the final section involves playing without the mouthpiece?
Yes! The final section (last 4 minutes) is played with no mouthpiece. The sounds that the baritone saxophone is able to produce this way is really amazing.
I love your reading of the plainchant melody -- you've clearly studied elements of performance practice related to music of that era. It reminds me of recordings I have by groups like the Tallis Scholars and the Hilliard Ensemble. The _Sagrada Familia_ seems like a perfect background for the second part of the video: A combination of the ancient and the modern.
Masterful playing, Maestro. Good piece, too; I hope it "gets around" -- I think it's better than at least one modern piece for solo baritone I can think of that seems to be getting widely played...
Many thanks for your kind comment. I mainly like to play and record original pieces for baritone saxophone. I prefer contemporary music (and specially experimental or avantgarde) but I am also open to play other styles of music.
Yes, I've been subscribed to your channel for quite some time, and have enjoyed your work and appreciated your advocacy of new music. (I know this video was posted quite a while ago; I'm just way behind in my subscription feed!)
Thank you so much. I am also subscribed to your channel and like your versions on medieval music for saxophone. Early and Contemporary Music are not so far away between them
I'm honored! And I agree, there are many connections between the eras. We have a contemporary flute/sax duo, a new piece written for the performers, that's been recorded; when I eventually get around to editing it, it will be posted on my channel. :)
