I do "Speedruns", Challenge Runs and Guides for Don't Starve Together
I am one of those people who love criticism so post any you have in the comments. I currently reply to any questions you guys might have. If you guys enjoy, do me a favor and commit soob!
im a casual player but my friends who are new to the game think im godly at it... so now i gotta sit down and study so i dont disappoint them. 😔 I bet this guide is really helpful and makes me seem cool and smart!
This was a fun question to answer so I went in depth lol! It's kinda been a thing for me since I first started playing DST. The pan flute is by far the biggest get-outta-jail free card making many challenges a non issue. Some examples include Dragonfly's enrage, Bee Queen's grumble bees, ultra-cheesing Twins of Terror, Twins of Terror minions, or Toadstool's sporecap phase (if you burn them with a torch). If we're going with non-raid boss examples we can't ignore hound waves, Deerclops (although this makes Spring tougher), getting time to heal in a boss fight or even dealing with any surprises thrown your way (almost any since nightmares are immune). Then it's also just that, it's a get-outta-jail FREE card! You can easily get a pan flute for free by just visiting Pig King, and you can make multiple extra with a simple prestihatitator. Not only that but you don't even spend the mandrakes if you just deconstruct the pan flute at 10% and make a new one. Another issue is that there are also no other alternatives. Nothing noteworthy in the game other than the pan flute can be crafted with mandrakes since "Thanos Soup" gets overshadowed by 3 peirogies. This makes the pan flute used in almost every strategy where putting enemies to sleep is important or helps, which in turn leads to other alternatives (like the sleep darts and napsacks) never being used since they are WAY more expensive than pan flutes. And this is not even just true for bosses! Speedrunners use the pan flute all the time in for example Ancient Fuelweaver speedruns when they need to gather 8 fossil pieces. Here they just skip the challenge of getting past the spitters by just spawn camping them with a single click of the pan flute. Then there's also the issue that there's basically no skill involved. This has been partially fixed by Klei in a recent update however when they increased the "casting" time of the flute (so you need to find a window to be able to use it). Other than that though it doesn't need any form of aim for example, like the other alternatives. You just need to be relatively close to the enemy and they're suddenly asleep. The final issue I have with them is that they make cheese strategies so easy to pull off that everyone will pick the cheese over the challenge. This was the reason for my reluctance when I chose to cheese Bee Queen by using the pan flute in the video but I ultimately decided to do it anyways since the cheese was very fun and original and exploited a feature in Bee Queens movement pattern. I also thought it would be cool for the video and I took some pride in showcasing the cheese. All of these issues made me go to war (in a meme:y way) against pan flutes. If you watch my Wigfrid series here on YT (it has a bit worse editing and audio though), you'll see that I decided to ban the pan flute and shit on it through the whole thing. I also showcased the napsacks as an alternative for Bee Queen and Dragonfly to people who might be spamming the pan flute all the time. This should have answered your question but if you need a short version - I just think the pan flute is too OP and encourages not engaging with many of the challenges the game has to offer. It's possibly lazy game design but I haven't decided if I actually think so yet since I haven't thought about what would happen if Klei removes pan flutes lol! Anyways, enjoy!
@@-TheChosenOne you had me reading all dis shi 😂😂, and yeah, you are 100% right. But you can't forget that this game in designed in a way to be played in multiplayer. Like for example: any hard boss requires multiple players to defeat, if not cheesed in a way. Plus the game also designed to be hard and punishing sometimes, like hound waves and nightmare creatures. I left the game for over a year now (mainly because my old laptop is trash and can't run caves) and the feeling of boredom (the game becomes too repetitive), even though i only killed bee queen once, dragonfly twice and the seasonal bosses, and i haven't killed the rest bosses. And the last reason is that I knew the game before it got too changed, I am talking before reworks and other updates that were meant to expand the lore of the game, and to me i liked it because of how simple it was, but fun at the same time. Meaning i like games to have some fun mechanics just to be a bit far from reality, like how you need to survive with the pressure of keeping your sanity high so you are less likely to die (simple and fun, just like regular don't starve). I hope i explained thst right.
Lol, I had to read it twice but I see what you mean. If you ever feel like the game gets too repetitive try what I did, do challenge runs! Try to beat the game in weird ways, using items you've never used like the Ice Cube, Napsacks, Tail o' Three Cats, Cookie Cutter Cap, etc, etc. Then you can go rant about it on reddit or something! I also agree with you on the point of the game getting more and more complicated, it's basically turning into an rpg with all the skill trees. I'm always late to the new content so I haven't even tried the skill trees yet even though it's been a year now for example. With that said, skill tree stuff is optional and so is the "endgame content". You can play the 2022 DST without ever touching the new stuff if you want and you won't be punished for it and still beat CC to obtain infinite light. Heck, if you just don't go on the ocean you can play the 2018 DST
@@Dayreaverthe_Theo Well, when I was practicing yes but this was the first run where I got to him and I had prepared so much to the point that he got uno reverse carded again
@@-TheChosenOne ah btw i love your channel! you could have way more than just 2k subs! btw i loved how you opened the video with " enraged *k l o o s* "
That's cool if you think so! I made it my "style" to use text commentary during boss fights so the music can take more space than if I spoke instead. Also, I was kinda in a rush when making this video which definitely got reflected in the text comments. With that said, I only really explain what happens in the text commentary so it's completely optional to read it but I can see that it might take focus away from the fight! If you can come up with a way to both let the music take space and text commentary to not be cringe, I'm genuinely all ears! Enjoy!
Correction: At 43:10 I feed a thing of honey to my bees. The action says "feed" and not "eat" so it's allowed according to my rules! Thanks for analyzing my gameplay though, sometimes I miss these types of things! Enjoy
Thank you! Although, I don't care how this teaser video does since I'll delete it anyways! Also, it was just a way to treat my subscribers to something small, and to show them that I'm not dead
I got him for free though! You can use various redeem codes to get spools and unlock him with 2700 spools (so you don't need to pay), like I show in the video. You can also just play the game and unlock him by unraveling the daily and weekly gift rewards!
@@therevolutioniscoming315 Go to the Klei Rewards page and scroll all the way down You can find the Rewards page by simply googleing, entering through the in game menu of DST (or other Klei games), or if you trust me, here's a link; accounts.klei.com/login Just login with Steam (or whichever platform you play the game on) and you're good to go! Hope this helped 🙃
And I didn't even use a skill-tree character lol! I imagine you haven't been here since before Celestial Champion and Eye of Terror released though. I gotta say, I applaud Klei for being so good at updating the game! Enjoy!
@-TheChosenOne skill-tree characters?? Damn, last i played, they just introduced the then-empty lunar island. I really gotta get back into the game, it seems!
more of these types of videos, challenge runs have been so much fun to watch lately even if the game isnt well known or the people watching isnt familiar with it, with a bit of the explanation texts on the items, everyone could enjoy the video and maybe could interest people to play for themselves (i know dst is a well known game, but apart from the small community, no one actually plays it) this type of video format will make u blow up man, i thought ure a big channel when watching this video, sufficed to say, i am shocked when i saw the sub count
Thank you for all the words and I agree on all points! I'm definitely planning on making more after I'm done with the Exploration Guide I'm working on so if I'm efficient, another one should drop in August! Enjoy
The Chosen One: *17:50* ''I'm so disappointed that they weren't like how they are in Terraria.'' Him LITERALLY 20 SECONDS AGO: wHy cAn i oNlY FiGhT ThEm aT NiGhT?!?!1 Also I really can't tell if the ''everything I say is objective fact'' is supposed to be a joke or not, because it's played way too straightly to be parody. [Edit] Nevermind, I forgot to check the date of upload before watching the video, it all makes sense now. My point still stands though. If this was an april fools video ranking video, this would go straight into D tier. *D for Don't Starve Together!!*
Lol! Yeah, the thing I said about nighttime may not be entirely like in Terraria but the thing is that in Terraria, you can (and are expected to) kill them in ONE night. In DST (the thing I complained about) you very often need multiple nights to kill them which just breaks up the fight for NO REASON (other than to be like in Terraria, which it isn't even since they keep their health!), and they aren't like in Terraria gameplay wise wich is the most important thing! I would be fine with it if they completely de-spawned after a night which would stay true to Terraria but in DST that doesn't really work since the nights are much shorter! It would make more sense to incorporate the moveset than keep the "de-spawn at night" mechanic IMO. Also, sorry for that "objective fact"-part! I'm still learning how to properly speak into my mic (lol) and I also didn't want to make it too obvious so the viewers only realise it's an April Fool's joke very late in the video when I start adding BS tiers. Hope you enjoyed!
