69% of the world's landmass is in the northern hemisphere. 16% of it is permanently frozen. Back when it wasn't frozen scientists describe the life that lived there using the prefix "MEGA" from the greek word megas, meaning bigger, implying a larger abundance of life and all its supports. The world is better when it's warmer. Y'all are just sedentary lumps that refuse to move and expand into the new frontier. The irony being that right now it's really cold there.
I've been disgusted by NYT and their lack of journalistic integrity in covering RFK which made me realize NYT isn't the outlet I thought. And how rude to reduce Shanahan to being a pocketbook. She's incredibly smart and is well versed in AI and has a lot of issues she's passionate about. He on the ballot in Texas toooooo
We do not have to vote for the lesser of two evils anymore. We can vote with our hearts with hope for the future with #KennedyShanahan2024 He has the record, integrity, and policy plans. Presidents Biden and Trump have had their chance and they've done nothing but make us bankrupt, divided, and sick. KENNEDY IS THE REMEDY #RFKJ24
Ok, I'm only 9 minutes in but I'm crawling the walls because there is such a huge event that happened in the late 60s and early 70s that affected the very youth who otherwise would have spent the 70s being entrepreneurs, starting businesses, becoming educated--- instead of being traumatized, self-medicating, and having had their creative mind pounded out of them: THE VIETNAM WAR. It wasn't till Gen X, which did not spend their youths at war, that we saw the explosion of innovation and entrepreneurship that led (for better or worse) to the economic explosion we've seen over the last few decades.
Worked brilliantly for me, an admitted Mustachian. Maxed out from 2005 through 2018, retired at 54 in 2019, managed to withdraw 31K a year since (5 year SEPP) and now have almost $900K in there. Plus Roth IRA...
Yes beauty is relative but aesthetics is not simply of representation. I think a lot of folks both professional and other have forgotten that aesthetics is something more than representation. Instead it is Aesthetic Growth, in other words, the way we are actually situated in the world or environment occurs before we start figuring it out or dividing it up into various other bits of understanding. Again, how something is merely represented comes after but what occurs before is aesthetic growth on the level of embodiment and the ability to change which is also the desire to affect change etc. Alfred North Whitehead said a lot on this subject as well as John Dewey which both dovetail nicely with some of the audio quotes in this podcast. But in general if we are not able to appreciate the depth that surrounds aesthetic experience as something other than representation, then, surely the issue of style or method is going to get lost to analysis as opposed to being fleshed out in more creative experimental ways!
Easy to fix. Put the greedy companies out of business, returning all premiums to home owners. Set up a State by State insurance system that holds insurance for those in State. The CEO's are grossly overpaid! On top of that they deny, deny, deny. Has nothing to do with climate change, that's the smoke screen they are using.
Let the left do what they want through private funding and that will end the debate. It comes down to the conviction that you can or should control what happens with your tax paying dollars, (really a crock of bull), but if that is the sum of the argument, then let the Left fund OBGYN clinics across the country - no subsidies. The DNC can afford it and the left has enough support to distribute the money as needed to Planned Parenthood. If we need to provide free transportation or sliding scale fees for prenatal services and transportation, then they should do that. Rally drivers and volunteers to take care of the sisters in need of care and aftercare.
Amen! Kudos to Biden! At least, somebody has taken aim on that. It was amazing coming back to the US for the summer of 2021. You had to super vigilant since the prices advertised to you never end up being the final prices paid. The US is a culture that tries to squeeze the average guy at every turn. Thank God for Ireland. Erin go brauch!
It is actually the richest people in America who are responsible for all these junk fees and who do not want them removed so that they can keep robbing people. It is each and every one of these enormous corporations.
Ezra, I'm super proud of you and excited for your future right now. I went through a mid-life crisis and have opted for challenging my bises. I came from a rural beef farm but we are wholly educated activists. I'm an urban nurse working to deliver integrated single payor healthcare that anyone can afford out of an average paycheck. I realized that the democrats and their corporate and government marriage was in my way! I'm now working with Republicans believe it or not. Things change! I'm right behind you, go ahead, step off that cliff. You are not wrong. I had to vhallenge myself in saying, "if white men are voicing distress, why are they not also my concern?" So I joined MAGA as its urban sunrise is just upon us. I can shape it from the inside. Stay fluid, challenge even your highest self.
Have you seen Ruy Teixeira's polling on what people are willing to pay re environmental causes? Almost no one will pay even a dollar. As a nurse we had to abandon perfection, "keep them alive at all costs!" Moved to, "how can we enrich their lives, lower harm and pain, while asking if people feel they have a quality life." You are dangerously entering into an elitist demise. You will now hear angry cries as they throw back your cake. Democrats are a party defined by both educatioal and economic elitism or simply, "elites." A working class party will gain dominance and stop all of your plans in favor of personal agency and investments. Wealth defined by enrichment and quality of our human experience, even if it ends one day.
I have to disagree with the assertion that hidden fee's are a side battle. It highlights the fundamental dishonesty running amok in corporate America. That a lot of inflation isn't inflation at all but greed and dishonesty.
Absolutely! Many companies used the 'air cover' of inflation to take advantage of the situation. Here in Ireland, culture constrains that behavior to a degree that simply isn't found in the US. There are not many hidden fees here at all.
Magical thinking is not a solution. Suggesting that we’re going to suddenly improve our recycling practices in the future? What evidence supports that suggestion ? The solution is to change our energy consumption. We cant mine our way out of this. There are no justifications for threatening our clean Water security for all future generations.
I think a lot of people are missing the point. At some point in time, businesses, schools, and other health services will either be gone or severely understaffed. I know some would say robots, but they've been saying that for 30 years now and we are not only not closer, but let's be practical, anyone that has taken care of a parent knows how unfeasible such an idea is.
I think one big premise of this discussion is 'society' or country as a monolith. Strikingly missing from the analysis is the fact that the benefits accrue to someone else and the costs to someone else. Just like in the first industrial revolution and the second. Internet has been different due to the idealism of its leaders, but again private firms got involved and the social networking has the same old story. Why would AI be different?
I still have a pension and annuity. Thank god for unions. Bc of the employer contributions my wife and I can max out her employer 401k. We will be able to retire with dignity thank god
My dad’s 401k cratered right as they retired. It came back slowly but never totally recovered. It had a big impact on what they could do in retirement. He was a blue collar guy
solar panels are not that efficient. the amount of energy needed to build and maintain them offsets their energy yield substantially. they're still a net positive, but not as much as one would expect
I support 2024 Hillary Rodham Clinton + Harris as a body guard not anymore as when I was much younger than I am now 29 approximatively or +- years later and older Haha Most Black Soldiers and Black Panthers remain my @GIs@ or friends in civilian clothes *_im principle_*
Harris is Tamil, Scottish and (maybe) Jamaican. She grew up in Montreal eating her mother's curry. Indian (the country) Americans are among the most successful demographic groups in the USA with a very strong showing in small business ownership. I don't think idpol works well for Harris but I don't think it works against her. The biggest negatives for Harris are: - Poor ability to connect with voters, poor speaking, low charm, word salading. - Perceived as unwilling or uninterested in doing the VP job. No President has needed an active VP more than Biden and Harris has done almost nothing. She had a great opportunity to prove herself but she and her husband complain when she is asked to help. - Aggression and defensiveness that seems to come from a lack of confidence. Her discomfort makes others uncomfortable. - Awkward around children, adults, voters, workers, black men, people without money, hominids, mammals and earthlings. - Overlaps with the Pelosi/Bay area power base that is positioning Newsom to replace Biden. A Newsom Harris ticket would be 100% San Francisco and that will have very limited appeal in swing states.
Her perspective was interesting, but she doesn't seem to seriously take Israelis defense needs into consideration. She mentions that israel should focus on working up its defence, but its done way more than any other country of its size, while also getting condemned for blockaiding gaza cause of its defence.
I challenge that there isn't the concept of the male home wrecker (or even the other man) In Brazil there is the word 'stragalar' (home wrecker) which can be applied to a man
They call the war against Terrorists "genocide" to scare left-wing and anti-Semitic Democrats, while what they actually do, like the genocide they carried out on October 7th, they justify as "resistance". The logic is quite simple: it's the principle of lying repeatedly until people believe it. Eventually, reality will hit the 20% of American Democrats in the face when Hamas takes over their country and allows *no democracy*. This is exactly what they did in Iran: they allied with the Iranian liberals and then got rid of them after the 1979 revolution.
Widespread civilizational collapse is already here. Read Jem Bendell's book Breaking Together: a freedom lover's response to collapse to understand this reality and how to adapt.
How about if the GOP get on board and pass the James Langford immigration bill that is the conservative plan ever implemented. Oh, that’s right, Trump doesn’t want to give Biden a win. Hypocrites.
The Expanse Universe as a example optimistic future?? Really??? It is a pitty that this evaluation came only at the end of the episode and not at the beginning, since it could have been the whole discussion of the interview. But this recommendation allows a good frame for his other opinions about the subject of technological innovation vis a vis the betterment of society. To say that "The Expanse" is a example os a optimistic future is to say that our society is a good as it gets. Because the kind of society that the series shows is basically our own, buta in space. War, rampant inequality, whole human groups converted at fodder for the enrichment of others. Once again, the mere reiteration of our own society. Let's be just: he is a conservative. So, by definition, he thinks our society is "as good as it gets", no profound change needed. But the, he should not be surprised that people are not invested in the future anymore: the future he is "promising" is one where the same people who benefits from economic growth now will keep benefiting in this future he envisions. And the people who gets screwed right now will keep being screwed. But in space!! Lamentable...
I just bought a plane ticket and it was advertised as $254 but after all the fees it cost $344. $90 in fees. Not long ago the price you saw was the price you paid minus tax
