The University of Leicester was founded a hundred years ago in the aftermath of the Great War. The men and women who built this new institution hoped that it would be not only a living memorial to the darkness of their recent past, but a beacon of hope for the future. Their aim was that sacrifices made in war should be commemorated through education and research that would change the world for the better.
Today our University is a lively, energetic and global community, in which dedicated and talented people are anticipating, working towards and helping to shape the future.
We are committed both to undertaking research that saves, improves and enriches lives, and to fostering a teaching and learning environment that transforms the prospects of our students and those they will go on to influence.
It's not as good now. Plenty of city accommodation now, especially with Freeman's common being rebuilt. Oadby is being downsized buildings are being sold off like Digby, as there's less students now. There's four large commercial kitchens built when the halls used to be catered but they are now all abandoned. In Oadby there's a student pub called "village hub", sports facility, supermarkets and thats it. There has been a shuttle bus service included in the rent, something that hasn't happened in the past. Although it goes to show that the uni wants you in town where they have their on campus shops with food during the day and at night they have their own o2 academy venue, that they own as well. Oadby makes sense if you are on a budget and get a double room to share, as those rooms tend to be massive + cheap but you have to find/deal swith someone willing to share. Most of the accomodation dosent make sense priced at £100+ as you can get something else in the city.
It's said by Langley herself that all the sources were always there to find where Richard was. I presume this means... for centuries? But let's stick with the 20th Century - the longest techno century so far. So, in that century they raised Henry VIIIs ship 'The Mary Rose' from the sea, and spent millions and years to slowly impregnate the timbers with preservative, and now it's a tourist attraction. So, why did nobody ever want to 'find' Richard under a few feet of tarmac? Is that the real 'bone' of contention between 'parties'. Was the location always known and were.... em certain parties - annoyed when someone came sniffing and asking for a digger to dig RIGHT where certain parties never wanted to dig. Can Medieval bad blood last over 600 years?
I listen to good slices of this and in that bit towards the end about character and 'we are not advocates for Richard III', I see concern for the reputation not of a long dead King, but for the reputation of a long dead Playwright. I think the nerves seem more directed at Literary history, particularly the Godlike status of Mr Shakespeare, than political rivalry between Plantagenet and Tudor fans. Of course Shakespeare was just a playwright, not an historian; even so, I think there seemed to be nerves that a new version of Richard III might belittle the reputation of some iconic Shakespearean plays. Mr Taylor seemed fearful of his English Lit department! ;)
The English language is property of the Teutonic race. It’s not a “global asset”. Chinese people shouldn’t speak English. Allowing foreigners to intrude upon the English language is no less dangerous then allowing them to buy British land. Asians have a specific territory, and a specific language. They’re not Westerners.
How dare Julie Ecthingham rephrases the question about Palestine. Julie you need educating. In 1912 Britain stole Palestine from the indigenous people of Palestine and gave the land to Zionists from Europe. They changed their names to sound native. Palestinians have been living under illegal occupation for 75 years. They have been ethnically cleanse and are murders every other day. The Palestinians resistance are fighting back for their land back. The only terrorists are the thieving occupiers who keep killing them. How would you like it if they came to your house and kicked you and your family out of your house and made you a refugee in the back garden and we blamed you. What would you say to your children. You would be call led a terrorist for wanting your home back. So stop mouthing off Zionist propaganda. Have you ever spoken to a Palestinian whose house been stolen and members of his family been murdered. No you play ignorant and blame the native people of Palestine. You have been exposed as an another media stooge like piers Morgan and kier Starmer. Did you see how both were genocidal Zionists were nodding their heads in appreciation on how you rephrased the question. That was the seal of approval. You have been exposed as Zionist stooge.
he was a Genuine King, and I am sad that the present Royal Family, though not directly related did little to mark his funeral. he should have been buried with Full military honours befitting a king.
I remember you were very pessimistic , Philippa Langley should take all the glory for the incredible discovery,,, I watched the documentary, I remember you and your fellow colleagues being very negative.
Frances Barber is a superb actress and i always make a point to watch when ever i can , but for me she has always been incredibly erotic and deeply sensuous and with a very beautiful looks through out her career, i am still mesmerised by her beautiful eyes and gaze.
