Union College is a highly selective, private, residential, liberal arts college with engineering that is consistently ranked among the nation's top colleges. Set on 100 acres in downtown Schenectady, N.Y., including eight acres of formal gardens and woodland known as Jackson's Garden, Union is within easy reach of New York City, Boston, Montreal, rural areas and outdoor recreation.
For more than two centuries, Union College has been defining-and continually redefining-what it means to provide a liberal arts education. Since 1795, we've been challenging convention, blurring boundaries and shaking up traditional thinking. We are inspired by a bold, enduring vision: Developing every student to lead with wisdom, empathy and courage, in ways large and small, now and across multiple tomorrows.
Any student at Union College should take whatever steps are necessary to take at least one course from Professor Berk. Absolutely the best! Union is trimester and my first course taught by Berk was in the Winter trimester so that was January 1969) I had to take 12 history courses for my major, and Professor Berk was my professor for 8.
I "grew up" at Union College where my dad was a very active fundraiser and my mother worked in the Schaffer Library. Given those connections, I could have enrolled there at a nice discount, but instead chose to attend Bates College in Maine. Union is a fine school, but I had been "going" there for 18 years already and was ready to move on. That said, I will join with many Union fans in raising a Rathskeller glass to one of their most famous grads, Joanna Stern! I look forward to her entertaining columns and videos every week. Thanks to you, Joanna, Tech need not be dry and boring! Love to have a beer with you the next time we are in Schenectady !
