Welcome to JCTs Fascinating Hobbies, a place where I tend to post videos, relating to my hobbies, interests and anything else that may be of interest.
I have recently decided to try to make my channel a little more interesting, so will be filming my various hobby exploits, and uploading them for the world to enjoy!
From cars to computers, retro tech and a lot of things in-between, I cover what I find interesting, I hope you do, too.
Feel free to subscribe, and don't forget to like those videos, should you enjoy what you see.
Thanks for continuing the ECU video, when you mentioned varnish, it reminded me of an old radio circuit board. I went to replace a couple of leaked capacitors only to find that it took a lot of cleaning before the solder would adhere. I almost damaged the tracks 🙄 because of the gunk that had formed. Thanks again
How are you my friend? I have a Betamax T7 video cassette, the colors are broken, the picture is black and white. How can I fix the color not showing up? Please help me find the problem. Thank you very much.
Hello I'm facing a issue with the gearbox with my friends 1993 xj40. The car tends to lash when costing after 80kmph. This only happens when i remove the accelertor pedal. We have changed the transmission fluid, filter and checked all the bushes. But still the issue persist after 80kmph. Today we checked all the mounts and found the gearbox mount to have a bit of a play. If you could share your email i could send you the video of the distance the mount travels when jacked. Also please share your suggestions about the lashings. Thanks in advance
Hello, I think my email address is in the information about my channel. Not sure I can post it here without it being removed. Is the lash a kind of 'thunk' noise when you lift off the throttle?
Yes, it's a thunk noise when I lift of the throttle only when at 80kmph +. I couldn't find your mail, but the gearbox mount when we jacked the car from the transmission the transmission moved about 1.5 to 2 cm without any resistance.
I tried to do this and my tube has got stuck inside the oil dipstick tube, it got sucked in a little while the motor was running. Im afraid to turn the motor back on, what can or should i do?
Cool. How did you correct the colour changing to blue on one side? Purity rings or yoke/coil positioning? I've got an IBM CGA monitor that has the same whole screen colour offset, going evenly from blue to green slightly, not in the corners or anything. Thanks!
The main fix was the positioning of the scan coils. The purity rings were set by generating a dot pattern on my pattern generator and getting them positioned so that all dots showed up as white and not a split of RGB. Be very careful though, due to the high voltages involved. I had the set plugged into an isolation transformer which reduces the shock risk.
Interesting video, thank you. One suggestion if I may. People will have some difficulty following your mouse on a screen, perhaps you can use a pointer or change the mouse setting to make it more visible. The high DC voltage on the output (you measured 7V) would suggest something is seriously wrong with the amplifier. I would be surprised if the speaker survived and wouldn't be surprised if that channel in the IC is actually fried. I would further suggest checking DC on speaker outputs should be the first port of call when diagnosing such problems. This will immediately tell if something is seriously wrong.
i have one of these and im struggling to get the cables to link it to a modern scart tv. i bought cables but the fittings for the betamax end are too small.
not sure i would be rubbing old electronics around a cloth - get yourself an antistatic mat for your bench, they double up as a nice surface to work on
I've used this very same pump for years with great success. first you must find a way to uncurl the small tube other wise it will not reach the sump bottom. second push the tube gently down till you feel it is at the sump bottom, any more pushing and it will curl back on its self preventing all the oil from be sucked out. Now you must get the car in such a position that the oil is at its deepest level relative to the dip stick hole thereby ensuring that all the oil is extracted. One small point is to be sure that the container for the old oil is at ground level, and not as some people do and have it in the engine bay, thus making the pump work harder to pump the oil into it.
A blast from my past. I got a National Panasonic NV7000 back in late 79, cost me a fortune (about 20 weeks of my apprentice pay LOL). Great VCR, soft touch, servo controlled, top loading goodness. Especially when a few of my fellow apprentices where getting the cheaper Ferguson with the clunky piano keys. Mine got a lot of use in the 12 years I had it. It wasn't multi standard like yours, but in most other respects it was the same machine. I only just noticed it has the remote socket. Forgot it was a wired remote LOL. Think there may have been an optional wireless remote, which I'm sure I had. Nice to see, thanks
Excellent informative videos What brand and model of solder sucker tool are you using here please ? I have just removed my Clarion 9701RTA ( 9701RT in other countries ) stereo tape deck from vehicle because right front speaker output is very poor to the point you can only just hear at full volume . To rule out a faulty speaker i plugged left output into right speaker and right speaker is fine , both speakers test fine , just nothing getting to right . any ideas where i should start looking please ?
5:36 - I absolutely love that you have an episode of The Simpsons on a (once) blank tape, and that's what you used to record on. Same here. I just wanted to note: I bought a 3-set of new VHS blank tapes in the hope that I could record an old video to a new one. Unfortunately it didn't work and I found out something interesting after investigating and chatting to "experts" - sometimes a new blank VHS tape wont pick up what is being played through a VHS player hooked up with a red/white/yellow cable to the TV, or simply just a TV even if everything is connected up just right (cable-wise) - you actually need about 10 to 20 blank videos in order to find ONE that has *just* the right amount of magnetism left in the tape to record a video through a decent VHS player PLUS a modern TV. I didn't know that, and so my first 3 VHS blank tapes that I received a month ago couldn't record *anything*. I've since bought 20+ more and only ONE of them was able to record from one VHS player to the second VHS player. Long story short: I was playing Netflix on the TV, had it plugged into VHS player No.1, had the output and input exchanged into VHS player No.2, and finally recorded the "ultimate" product on VHS play No.2 on a new blank video. I can now play *that* video on any VHS player that I own and it looks great on my modern LCD TV and there are no problems. Your process and mine are both pretty difficult!
My one stopped after a couple of uses and as someone else said there is a fuse within the unit on one of the leads. Mine had blown so all I did was to remove the internal fuse and add a new fuse holder on the external red lead, so next time it blows its any easy job to replace.
Sadly, the impeller on mine was making contact with the impeller cover. This meant that once the cover was put on, the pump would seize and blow the fuse.
Hello, the car is now owned by my mum and she had to have the Glow Plugs replaced. They live under the top engine cover in-between the cams in a similar position to where you would find the sparkplugs on a twin cam petrol engine. They are know to snap on removal. We had a good local garage replace hers, simply because I had no puller/extractor tool. I doused the area with Innotech Deblock (an expensive penetration oil which is exceptionally good). The garage advised the plugs came straight out with no fuss. They are expensive on the A20DTH 2.0 CDTi 165 diesel due to the fact they contain internal pressure sensors. Since replacement, the engine is a lot smoother and is returning it's original MPG figures of 47MPG combined and nearly 54MPG on a motorway run. If you're UK based, Autovaux should be able to provide them but be warned, they can snap on removal.
I own Daimler XJ40 from 89 with 4000cc. Fantastic car even if thought too much for the US market. You will think that your 3600 deserves a good care from a good mechanic, as I did ....
You would normally replace them in the same order, mainly to maintain wear across the coils. However, that’s just a rule I stick by. The individual coil packs are not paired to a specific cylinder, so can be mixed.
Have this exact model. Glad i watched your guide before my rollers arrive tomorrow. I can tell right now that youve already saved me 2 hours of trying to figure out how to move the drum.
The car still exists, thankfully. E636MDD is the registration. After I owned it, a friend of mine owned it, it went through a couple of owners before ending up with its current owner.
Kind of chaotic there in the dark. I can't see how the ignition coil is mounted or any sign of it in the engine bay in the video. Where do the screws go ? I have a loose hangin ignition coil in the engine bay beside the ignition amp but I cannot see any engine bay mounting points that would match up with the mounting bracket of the coil ?
I just aquired one of these machines. Haven't been used since 1992. Turns on nicely though but only shows green screen with Black lines through it. The diskdrives' leds light red but doesn't seem to read disks. Sounds like it tries. I will try to open, discharge, check the belts and clean it all up with iso.
I no longer own the Zafira. However, it has not travelled far….my mum owns it. It’s about due for a gearbox oil change, I’ll take a look and will no doubt document the process 🙂
Many thanks, with the demise of the great Haynes manuals for many recent vehicles we will have to share and support each other even more on RU-vid, forums, etc
Hi, there. Thanks for a super range of interesting tech videos. Would you happen to know the capacity of your Zafira Tourer gearbox and also at which RPM the turbo kicks in? Thanks again?
Thanks James for sharing.Would it be possible to give a link to where you bought the bolts .Be interested to know what make of drill bits you used..Best Wishes M
The bolts, Amazon. The drill bits, just some generic bits suitable for metal. I started with a 2.5 mm bit, centre punch on the sheared bolt, then drill through and work up to a 5.5 mm bit. By that stage, the bolt was removing itself. I ran a suitable tap to clean the threads, then refitted the bolt.
I only have scart and rf connections in my vcrs. I have a scart to usb converter that didn't work when I connected my blu ray player and macbook. I have a 360 somewhere that might work, but I have to dig it out. The only thing that works for me is my dvd player. Half of my collection is copy protected, so my other option is to play movies on my dvd player via usb. I'm trying to record a compilation of Horror clips to vhs. It's a slow process without access to youtube. I'll figure out a way.
The device I was using has an option to change the output resolution to suit 4:3 screens. This does result in a clipping of the edges on any programs you watch, though the interface appears fine and suitably resized.
@@Tony-r9r3o A 'Huawei DN360T', it comes with a SCART connector as well as a HDMI connector. In the UK, these boxes were branded as a 'BT Youview', however other broadband suppliers would badge them up with their specific branding.
Thank you James for a very good real world Video. When you come to do the other side , if you must wear flip-flops for safety's sake get yourself a pair that have steel toe caps!👢👢
