I'm surprised that it took me over a month to notice this video-but better late than never. I remember both of our channels being of very similar size throughout late-2015 to mid-2017 and growing at nearly-identical rates. Quite a lot of what you said really resonated with me, especially regarding burnout and the vacillating surges of motivation. I also took a large, four-year hiatus after 2017, and when I returned in mid-2021, I was surprised at how much the community had grown and shifted during this time. I can also agree with you when you say that Algodoo is showing its age. It has quite a few limitations that prevent me from creating large-scale scenes (such as sometimes having unpredictable physics, being single-cored by default, having memory limitations, and being mostly abandoned by Algobox). I feel like if I were to create another series, I would use a different engine instead and make it look like Algodoo instead. With that all being said, it's great to finally hear from you after all of these years!
Hard to believe it's been a decade or so since we starting making this type of content! It's also insane how high standards for Algodoo videos are nowadays; doesn't seem like that long ago not having to use the drag tool during an event was considered a success. I've been meaning to have a full watch of your Algotriacontathlon series when I get a moment but from what I've seen so far the quality is astonishing. As much as I still have a drive to make content, I haven't really been passionate about Algodoo since maybe late 2016, which has made working on longer-form series somewhat unsustainable (there were also a couple of things that happened in early 2018 that caused me to withdraw from the community). But Algoryx is currently working on a compatibility update for Algodoo, so I'm mindful that things could change in the near future.
Absolutely! Thanks for the kind words; I have the same high-regard for your videos on EagleFern! I'm finding myself in a similar boat regarding making Algodoo content. As much as I would like to make a new series after recently finishing my Algotricontathlon, doing so would be such a huge undertaking, and it uses time that I would prefer using for other non-RU-vid-related endeavours (and working on smaller series doesn't really interest me as much). I wasn't aware that Algoryx was working on an update to Algodoo after all of these years; I'll have to check it out when it releases.
I just wanna say that, sc9849, you are very talented in what you do and your videos are very good. I remember watching your videos when I was 7, and now I’m 13 and about to be 14 and I want to say that you have made me feel inspired like many others to maybe make anAlgicosathlon one day. But one thing that I highly note is that do not let you’re perfectionist self get in the way of doing things at times, just know that there are people out there that will be passionate and wait for a response, just like those who sticked around to see this video! But all and all, you’re welcome for sticking around and I will be passionate to stick around more happily knowing this channel is not dead. Besides that I don’t know what to say now :p
Wow I dreamt you posting Algicosathlon Day 4 a few days ago so I searched your channel and found this video Your Algicosathlon was the first Algicosathlon I have ever watched (I started watching Algicosathlons since 2020), and yay finally you're back Also I have heard that Eagle Fern is your alt, but I wasn't sure about that before
