Hi. My name is Philip Ellis. I have played drums since 1995. I started a custom drum company in 2006, and in 2010 I wrote a book that teaches people how to do the same. It's an honor to share my videos with you.
Philip thanks for the great video. I'm looking to buy a DW 9000 low boom stand today. I have one question. .. I love the idea of hanging the symbol under the boom arm for a unique look but I'm concerned the wing nut would come loose in the symbol would fall on my bass drum. What would you recommend doing so that the wing nut won't come loose?
I got one of the evans hd dry heads im having trouble getting it to sound good.I've never really had trouble with any other heads but for some reason this dry head is giving me trouble.
I pretty much do the same general thing except that I don't use the muffling ring. I just use a traditional pillow. Not even a specialized one. Just a simple throw pillow that I lightly lean on the batter head. Not exactly a bad video, but I wish you had recorded some audio of the drum, otherwise we have no real reference for what that tuning and methods will do to the drum's sound.
Ummm didn’t show anything. You didn’t teach using the bounce, aka ghost notes. And why do you keep looking out the window during a teaching video? Just sayin man.
2:15: why do drummers spend on the finest resonant shell sets, only to buy accessories and do setups that prevent the drums from resonating? Have you considered selling the drum, and replacing it with a large plastic pail?
Just about everyone I’ve seen on these tuning videos never do the true”star” tuning . They’ll do a lug then go right next too the last one they tuned, then go somewhere else but never the star pattern.
