@DB-os7wl appreciate it! I don't mean to come off as pretentious or anything if it came off that way. Hard to express intent over the internet lol. Appreciate the comment, it's such an incredible place and I'd say the last remaining "wild" place in the US. Easier said than done, but you should come back 😅!
@PabloRamos-c8l haha honestly 35s are where it's at for my build. Gets me going where I need to. 37s would be a big jump and I'd need to reinforce a bunch more things.
@MrXerxes yeah no problem, it's a Phoenix PX6. PO had it installed, a little finicky with phone connections. I might do one without HVAC controls built in if I was to do it myself.
@alaskaoverlander thank you! Danny showing us all the time how awesome 4runners in close to stock form, definitely changed my outlook a bit. Was nice to actually make it up to the cabin this time too.
@chevycoloradoinalaska7018 it's a great run! Glad I had skids and sliders. Dented in my skids a bit haha. Jamie dented in her gas tank skid a bit but the solid front axle is very nice maneuvering around haha
Apologies for some audio misses / quiet parts. Computer restarted while I was editing and didn't realize it didn't save all the changes. Attempting to use YT music to fill the voids haha.
@kai__larsen thanks man! DaVinci voice isolation came through with the keeping down the wind noise. The comparable US options I was looking at were like $300 USD for similair build quality. Plus they didn't wrap the wheel like the crashpad does.
@@alex11557 they're good tires, Falken AT3Ws. Studs would help for sure. But I run those tires outside of the winter and don't find the hassle of studs worth it for the occasional icey hill climb. They've been more than adequate most of the time.
@alex11557 it was a hill of straight up ice and 0 degF haha. You can see with open diffs the wheels losing traction. If you don't live here, come on up to AK in January and we'll show you
@mobiltec then you'd know, sometimes you do less than ideal things 🤷♂️. We did the risk assessment, had recovery ready to go. Offroading as you would know isn't always flowers and cupcakes
@@BenCruisingAlaska My biggest fear was the idea of rolling over and landing upside down. I feared for you and the dog. The reason being I lost a friend and almost his passenger doing exactly what you did and you came very close to losing it on this one. This time you got lucky. Good luck in the future.
@mobiltec appreciate your concern, and I'm sorry you lost a friend. FWIW that's my friend Danny crossing. We assessed the situation and deemed it worth the risk. I think a roll over would have been unlikely. The risks that were more likely were probably getting pushed into rocks and stuck, or hydrolocking. Either way, he made it across to we were going with no issue. Diffs didn't even take in water with stock breathers.
@MadMadOne with open diffs, momentum is needed for this hill. But it wasn't enough and I probably had poor gear selection. As shown, a different line with more snow ended up being the better option. Low gear worked fine on that one. I hesitated to take it because it involved more turning, but it ended up working fine.
