You could reduce the workload by blending the plums and apples at the start instead of using the grater or dicing the plums with a knife. A blender can turn apples with skins into pulp very quickly. This apple mass is relatively thick, even if it is not jam. It can be stored in the freezer raw. You can use sour and ugly apples and add sugar. If you wan to can the product and store for an extended period, it has to be filled hot. That ensures the sterility of the preserve.
2-3 TSP water I have added. Sometimes water not needed. As cabbage leaves some water and tomato also releases some water, so if cabbage many times you can cook without adding water too.
