Got curious...opened my Amazon app...searched for blenders...scrolled down a bit and...Ask Rufus appeared on the screen. Selected: Best blenders for home use and got several selections, each with a photo and brief description of the product plus information about customer comments. There's a notation that Rufus is still learning, with a thumbs up or thumbs down icon for rating its performance. I like it much better than trying to find something using the search bar hoping I can find the exact wording for the product I need. I find I am not intimidated by a bot named Rufus. Good choice Amazon. It looks like they're using Alexa on Amazon products and Rufus for customer assistance.

If you make things meritocratic some groups will be more successful than other - and often not the ones you think too. We need to be ok with the fact that some groups will do better, since it makes society more productive overall & benefits everyone. The same reason you should not resent rich people if they make value for everyone. I'd focus on finding places which are not meritocratic and making them more so. Not for moral sense - but because you'll have a more efficient society which benefits everyone. Maybe sounds cold and is a hard sell, but my two cents.

It would be nice to see nuance in actually discussing how socialism and communism have ideas that moderate the worst impulses of capitalism, which is what the supermajority of people are experiencing. But, well, what a letdown of a conversation.
Even if AI comes up with the most elegant solutions for energy or other issues, it’s impossible to say how that will be used. If it is politically inconvenient, I guess it will be shut down under the table.
I was in Doha for 5 years from 1998 to 2003 for middle / high school. I got to see the first McDonalds, BurgerKing, KFC, university, western style shopping mall, etc open up. I came back to Toronto, Canada to resume schooling with my siblings. I had some friends that went to study in the US and believe it or not, went back to Doha after graduating uni. I asked them why, they said they make more than double what they could earn in the US tax free and the place is growing exponentially and its safe. They have big businesses, hotels, food chains, etc. everywhere now. Lots of malls and entertainment. The limitation of no higher education is gone as well. I wish I could see what it looks like now but have no reason to go back. Other than the scorching hot weather and openly racist arabs, it's a great place.
