Well played sir. I'm currently learning, but still on the practice chanter. This is a piece that I've chosen to learn to play off of my own bat, and your example gives me inspiration. One day, if I'm even half as good as you, then I shall count myself fortunate 🙂
Superb playing & sound... Dougie, are you the same guy I sent ma wee Patsy Cline-type country song to ("Your Honky Tonkin' Is Making Me Blue") for consideration back in the 1990s? Sent you 2 very different versions, but you couldn't hear any potential in it? Well, undetered and years later in 2006, it was arranged/produced by Rodney Atkins producer, Ted Hewitt, in Nashville as a male Texas-Swing version and released in Europe and parts of Asia. Surprisingly, it got to number 1 in the Irish country music charts and number 2 in the French country charts, and turned out to be THE fastest-climbing song in the history of the then European Country Music Charts, going from 98 - 8 in one week and stayed there for 22 weeks, competing with releases from major artists. It was never released in the all-important USA and still has to be. One version is similar in vibe and appeal to LeAnn's "Blue" and I strongly believe it would do the same big business there given the bigtime arrangement/production treatment and with the right female country singer performing it. This twin harmony female version has a much improved first verse, something that the male swing version doesn't have. If this is something you feel may be of interest re getting involved with, get in touch. Cheers! Stuart
Had the honour of playing alongside Derek, back in 2010, when he was the Queen's Piper, and P/M Roger Huth (ex-Scots Guards) on two occasions: both great guys and top pipers.
I worked in Boots music department when Tommy was out and about promoting this release, I know it was November, but don't know what year. Mid 90's? Good times x
