You can be lvl 2 when you land on the beach, you don't lose a lot of time and I think it's very worth it. Steps I follow are: -Ignore Us. -Kill the three enemies at the start. -Kill the two sleeping beauties that are next to shadowheart. You don't need to fight them, just kill them in the chair directly. -Kill the brain in the next room. -Save Shadowhearth. -Kill all the enemies in the last fight. Just the normal enemies, not the general and the cambions. Following this steps, when you landcrashed in the beach and speak with shadowheart, you will level up.

The skeletons in the Majula Mansion's basement are the best way to get lots of levels early if you can handle them at NG+8 difficulty. You can farm them for basically unlimited bonfire aesthetics and souls. (eventually the last giant outclasses them for soul farming though)

Eternal sleep definitely got nerfed because you used to be able make the god skin duo sleep forever but now the get the effect then go down to normal sleep then get back up

Using spices does not weaken a spell, it's using it with lower attributes that makes it seem weaker. Of course Sunlight spear is gonna look weak if you cast it with 25 faith.
