Great job. I wish I had this in the eigthies, at that time I dreamed about the DX 7 which was above my student budget of that days. 😊 This would have been a great poor man substitute 😉 Still hoping for a project publishing. Keep going on your projects.
Hello geertboer, thanks for the comments! My case is the same, it was a dream of mine when I was young to have a DX7, but it wasn't possible. I had a Yamaha PSS with FM. Nowadays I could even buy a used DX7, but I didn't have the courage. I bought the YC61 which has the FM engine. Now recently I decided to build my own synth and as I always liked the FM sound and to revive the sound of the PSS keyboards from the 80s/90s I went for the YM2413 chip (I have another project with the YM3812 that is still in its early stages). The tones that this simple synth produces are incredible, it ends up being addictive :)
@@musichobby2198 I'm a freak on this topic also and bought some synth's from these years. But stopped with it because of the carbon key contacts that most of the products have. After 20 to 30 year they centainly will give problems. And repairing them gives lots of trouble. But I also was many times close to buy a real DX7 if only of his iconic state.

Great project! I've been trying something very similar and am having trouble getting it to work properly. Using the MD_YM2413 Library with an Arduino Nano, I can get the MD_YM2413_Note.ino program to work, which just cycles through test notes. However, I cannot seem to find the right Arduino program to receive MIDI signal and play through the YM2413. Can you point me in the right direction for the proper program to receive MIDI signals on the Arduino and play through the YM2413? Any help would be appreciated. I'm fairly new at Arduino.

Hello, in the EFFECT 1 I used the COMPRESSOR with 30 on depth and 88 on rate, then EFFECT 2 used VCM Stereo Phaser with 64 on depth and 64 on rate. Finaly a little of global Reverb.
