Hello, I am interested in purchasing electronic tube front stage pedals and have set my sights on EBS ValveDrive DI and Olympic MkIIIS. I am not concerned with IR function, only the taste of the front stage amplifier. I would like to hear your advice
Absolutely spot on. That’s pretty much the sounds I use and I’m never missing in the PA mix. When I started trying to find out why I was so lost in mixes I found isolated bass tracks from famous artists and songs. I was shocked to find that most of them had some sort of distortion or overdrive in them. Yet in the full mix I never noticed that. When I started copying they sounds, I didn’t particularly like them but when I heard recordings from our live shows I was gob smacked. Great informative video 👍
Great video! I don't gig very often and frequently don't have an opportunity for a sound check. (And I have listened to live recordings and the sound guy is not helping me out.) I am going to try turning down bass and turning up mids. However, when one is coming up with sounds (using pedals) I create them to sound good (i.e. not in a band setting). However, these may not work in a mix. I wonder if one should apply an EQ with pre-determined settings to turn a bass tone that sounds good on its own into one that sounds good in a live mix?
@@IvanBassist Thanks for the reply but that's not very helpful. You're not tweaking your pedals when you are in a rehearsal with your band mates waiting patiently by? Are you coming up with your "mixes" in a DAW?
Hola!
Thanks for the video. Caveman sounds better in the mix (IMHO). Noble is kinda getting lost especially in the rock song demo. I would prefer Caveman for the current settings you've made.
I use the same "pedalboard thought" in my HX Stomp. Great video as always and we are looking forward to seeing that video about how you use the quad cortex in the tour 😁
@c_loeber Watch this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rbh3hecxf7g.htmlfeature=shared But I’m probably having some new ones made by 64 Audio somewhat soon
Makes sense, i rarley play on big stages, so I tend to push my low end. When i played a fest recently i was wondering why my bass sounded so boomy and muddy in the mix. The sound man made it work but i definitely noticed it. This was super helpful.
I have 3 of these, 2 orange, 1 Red. I also have 20 or so other basses mainly fenders and I only play my Mezzo's now! Super scale length @ 32" so comfortable and easy to play, great sounds as you just heard. Anyone want 20 Fenders?
Hello Ivan, I own the same bass. When I increase the tone there is a noise due to the microphonic pickups. Do you get the same? And If so, how do you deal with it.
@jdssurf it’s 800w. It’s definitely plenty loud and it can be set to 2 Ohm, which means you can connect it to 4(!) 8ohm cabinets. If that is not loud enough, nothing else will be.
Great video, man! I have questions. I use a darkglass b3k and an ampeg preamp clone. For gigs without amp, do you prefer routing B3K through preamp and then the XLR direct to mixer? or from B3K directly to mixer? And there is an amp, which routing do you recommend to use? Using preamp or without preamp. Thank youu so much
I always try to have my own DI box/preamp when playing. That way I feel comfortable with what I am sending the engineers and have some more control. With an amp i still send the signal from my pedals. Pretty much always my amp on stage is just a monitor for myself. I do not put a mic or take the XLR out from it.
