I’m just gonna say this being a Spurs fan since before the Admiral got here, Timmy is said to be arguably the greatest big man defender of all time yet doesn’t have 1 DPOY and there are people who want to see that Rudy tie that record I’m still confused by this line of reasoning. Cool stats but stars like Wemby are expected to turn franchises around from day 1. No one is talking about the spurs they lost a ton of games this year as well. Wemby also is a giant putting these numbers up in the regular season. Playoffs is where you get the prestige. It’s nice to see him doing well but hopefully next year it translates to wins.

Wemby was placed on a MANDATED bogus minutes restriction of 25 minutes per game for most of the season, so the spurs could get the best draft pick. He only averaged 29 minutes per game for the whole year. If Magic, Jordan or whoever was mandated to a minutes restriction there record would have been WAY worse.

The thing is that it is not convincing to give DPOY to any player on the worst defensive rating team in their conference and spurs is 15th on the west. Individually I would argue victor could be better but isn’t it unfair for Rudy not getting DPOY having the number 1 defensive rating individually while being on the 3rd best defensive team in the league
Stat sheets don’t show when players hesitate to score near Wemby and decides to pass the ball instead. It’s basically a blocked shot like Draymond Green said.

Wemby has compelling case as DPOY, but let's give it to Rudy Gobert one last time. DPOY will belong to Wemby for as long as he is playing the minimum required playing games for each season.
I don't know if Wemby is going to win DOPY or not (probably not), but he is definitely the best defender in the league. Doesn't matter if the awards won't reflect that, if you've seen the 3 on 1 vs Memphis you saw that the rest of the league knows who's the scariest mother fucker out there on defense.
