Hello, Thank you for your comment. If there is a lock number on the face of the barrel then its simply a case of getting replacement keys to match. If there is no lock number, then you could possible get a locksmith to manipulate it into the lock removal position for you, so that you can follow the rest of the lock barrel swap procedure.
Hello, Thank you for your comment. If you're able to access the back of the lock barrel , you would then be able to press down on the domed pin and push the barrel out from behind. If you're not able to access the barrel from behind, you would need a Master Key to be able to remove it. However, in order to be able to use the Master Key, the barrel would need to be in the unlocked position. The Master Key will not remove a barrel if it is in the locked position. Kind regards James

Hi. I can confirm that it is possible to transport five bikes on Evo WingBars. Installing bike carriers was the easiest part, mounting bikes themselves was difficult. It took a little bit of fiddling, even had to turn handlebar in parallel for a couple of bikes, but they fitted.
Thanks for your comment. This split rubber strip only fits the newer WingBar edge models (721x model numbers). The original Thule WingBars (958x and 959x) have a single ridged rubber strip and so their t-track design does not accommodate this type of strip.

Can this also be done when you lost the original key? My lock is is in locked position so can you turn your lock to the unlocked position with the use of the master key? Thanks in advance
Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, it is not possible to turn the barrel with a master key at all. The only way to do that is with the matching numbered key. However, you might be able to get a locksmith to help manipulate it into position for you. Make sure they do not just remove the barrel without manipulating the mechanism though, as you then won't be able to insert a new lock properly.
Hello, Thank you for your comment. If the lock barrel is definitely in the unlocked position, you would need to ensure that the Master Key is fully inserted into the barrel. Once it is, you may find that you need to give it a gentle wiggle in order to be able to remove the barrel. However, if the lock barrel is inside a roof box or a locking knob, please kindly send us an email as the lock removal procedure is different for these products.

However, we would recommend that you stop the car after approximately 10 yards and check to ensure that the slack part of the chain has fitted to the tread of the tyre. how does the "side" slack seen at the bottom where the tire is standing at 1:00 .... get taken up and the track fully encompass the tire as at 1:05 ? The manual and the video conveniently miss that part. Is manual intervention required to get the fit?

Hi, I basically have the same question, but I’m “just” using 3 Thule Freeride 532s. For my car (BMW G21 Estate) Thule states I need the 86cm Edge or 118cm Evo. Just curious how much width there will be left with the Edge and whether that will be sufficient for 3 bikes?

In order to be able to access the t-track slot at the top of the WingBar Edge bars, you would need to remove the cover on the the side of the feet attached at either end of the bars first. You would then be able to slide the t-bolts on the underside of the 598 carrier either into or out of the track. I hope this helps. Kind regards James

Hi, half of my key broke inside the lock. I was able to unlock the bike rack so I could take it off my car, but I couldn’t get the key out (nor could a locksmith). Is there another way to get the barrel out?
Hi, I am sorry to hear that the locksmith wasn't able to remove the broken key and I'm afraid that the only other option is to drill the lock out. However, this is quite tricky, and extreme care must be taken to not damage the housing, lock surround, or locking mechanism. Again, the locksmith might be able to help with this, and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody not extremely confident at DIY.
Just bought the edge wingbars, a proride 598 & the motion xt sport box and it looks like it won't fit. I will probably have to get the evo bars instead, but wondering whether it would be ok to move the roof box close to edge so it partially sits on the foot clamps themselves. Maybe that would give me more clearance for the bike rack.
Hello, Thank you for your comment. Provided that the claws on the underside of the roof box are securley tightend around the roof bars, it isn't a problem if the outside of the box sits on the on the foot.
It sounds like the locks on either side of your roof box match, which they should, so the key that won't open the locks is the wrong one. I hope this answers your question.
@@roofracks sorry I’m not really explaining myself. Let’s say my Thule key number is n199 and all the barrels are n199 and that’s all great and have no issues. I then stuck in Thule key N150 and it opens the roof box but not the other barrels for roof rack etc
@@donalgalvin5838 If you can open the roof box lock using a different key number to the one that's marked on the face of the lock barrel, then it's likely that the lock housing on the roof box has been worn down due to forcing the mechanism with the wrong key too many times. If this is the case, you would need to replace the lock housing on the box before inserting the barrel into it.
Unfortunately, as it isn't Thule branded, the locks may not be compatible with your particular foot pack. However, you may wish to contact Halfords directly for further advice.

This would be very helpfull if I saw this video few years ago ;). I have one question... Did you try the combination with Thule Motion XT Sport box and bike racks Thule Proride 591. I have Thule Wingbar Edge and I can fit box and one bike rack, but I would like to fit another one bike rack, so can I solve my problem if I fit instead of Thule Wingbar Edge, Thule Wingbar Evo with 118cm long bars? Hello, Thanks for your comment! We have not tested your exact combination, however, 532 bike carriers take approximately 20cm of bar space each and the Motion XT Sport is 68cm wide. Therefore you should be able to fit them but might not be able to open the lid of the roof box with bikes on the carriers. Unfortunately, you won't know until you try, and it could depend on the bike and the exact positioning of the feet attached to the roof bars, roof box, etc. If you can manage to fit the next size of roof bars, 127cm, this would give you much more leeway. The image at 3:17 for me is totally nonsensical. What does the 4 part and 5 part bars mean? Anyone? In the instruction there are also letters X Y W and Z alongside the bars I have no idea what Thule wants me to do!
Hello, Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, I am not sure what you mean about the 4 part and 5 part bars. However, the X, Y, W and Z from the fitting instructions, are all crucial measurements to set the bars up correctly to ensure they fit the vehicle perfectly. Please note these only apply to cars with a normal roof using the 7205 Edge Clamp foot pack. X is the setting that must be used on the foot itself for the front bar position, and is adjusted by using the tool on the bolt inside the foot, to move the foot in or out until the letter is lined up. Y is the same for the rear bar position. W is the distance between the roof bars whilst Z is the position for the front bar in relation to the top of the windscreen where it meets the roof. These can all be found on the fitting kit instructions for your car, and if not set correctly, means the roof bars won't attach properly or be secure.
