The Triangle Wind Ensemble is an adult wind ensemble based in North Carolina's Triangle region. Many of the area's most talented wind and percussion players join together weekly to practice and perform an exciting range of music for audiences in both formal and informal settings. Our repertoire includes transcriptions of orchestral classics, original compositions for wind band, small ensemble pieces, popular medleys and arrangements, as well as holiday and patriotic music for special occasions. Under the musical direction of Dr. Evan Feldman we perform at various locations throughout Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Chapel Hill, and surrounding areas. Please visit our website at trianglewind.org for more information.
Who did the band arrangement? I was in touch with the publisher (in England) many years ago to begin a band arrangement but never got through to doing it.
I have to say that normally, hearing this piece gives me nightmares. I did the Patterson arrangement years ago in high school and this key is just so much better to listen to. Holst’s arrangement is better to the ear but reading it as the musician is another matter. This is a very nice performance.
For anyone who is wondering, the arrangement they are playing was written by Gustav Holst himself. He wrote it a few years after he finished the orchestra suite. He also transcribed Mars as well for wind band.
And the wonderful narrator was David Ballantyne, who was unfortunately not framed well by our cameras. Apologies to him and everybody who kept wising they could see more than his knuckles and nose!
My mom and aunt live in downtown Cary. We LOVE to go Cary in all seasons......Such a beautiful place. We are especially LONGING FOR CARY, right now......as we watch the snow pile high here, just outside of Boston. (15 inches they say.........) !!!!
The piece of music makes me choke up everytime I hear it, because I am a senior in the class of 2020 and I play lead oboe and if I had known that this was my very last piece of my high school career, I would have cried more than i am right now. Great animation btw....
I'm relocating to RTP from Boston in August for my job. Very excited to see that there is a community Wind Ensemble as I am a wind player myself (Tuba)...though it has been a few years since I was active :-) Can't wait to see this live!
I recognize that version of the Star Spangled Banner anywhere! It’s the version that the United States Air Force Band uses Btw John Stafford Smith wrote the music not Francis Scott Key. But Key did write the words
This was AMAZING! Why am I the only person who is commenting? Where did you find the boy with the incredible voice? To do The Snowman justice, it was perfection! If there is one performance I would take my children to see for the holidays, it would be a live orchestration ofThe Snowman, exactly like this one.
Thank you! If you happen to be in North Carolina, we'll be performing this again on December 15, 2019 at the Cary Arts Center in Cary. Visit trianglewind.org for more information. We usually find out boy soprano by getting recommendations from local voice teachers. This recording's soloist, Josh, certainly did a great job. I'm sure whoever we find for the next concert won't disappoint either! Thanks for listening!
@@TriangleWindEnsemble No way! One reason why I am especially proud of your performance is because I am local, based in Durham! I can't wait to take my kids to see this!
I don't have the sheet music in front of me to verify, but I believe it was by Lex Jasper, arranging it for Bobby Shew and the Metropole Orchestra. They did a whole album together, and it's outstanding. Definitely worth checking out.
And, without trying to take away from our own performance, here's a link to that Bobby Shew/Metropole Orkest recording... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0sKniEg9z-I.html
If I remember correctly our soloist had sourced the charts for us, so I'm not sure where you can purchase them, if anywhere. Best of luck in tracking them down!
